SARWAT GILANI
Q. Having been in the industry for awhile now, you’ve gone off to done some superb shows; what is your process of selecting scripts, what is it that you look for in a certain show or film? A. When I’m approached for a project I normally work with the people I am comfortable with; people who have an understanding of how I work or what my work ethics are. For me, freedom of creativity is very important. I select roles that allow me to be out of the box and if sometimes they haven't been written like that then I invent something interesting in it to play around with. Q. You’ve recently done a film after a
string of television shows; how different is doing a film than working in television? A. Working in a film was no different than working in television because all my co-actors were also from the television fraternity, hence it didn’t seem extraordinary while shooting. But the difference became obvious only when you view yourself on the big screen; that's when you feel the difference. Q. You’ve also directed a theatre play very recently, how would you describe that experience? Were you nervous about the response?
Theatre is an actor’s dream and I have been A.
part of that dream before but it was my first time to direct a play. I love to lead projects
especially when I have a good set of people, and in this case actors. It becomes a blissful experience, when your actors are good. It was a wonderful directorial debut. I was nervous every single time we started the play. Q. It’s been quite some years since you’ve come into acting now, how have you managed to look the same throughout these years. It’s like you haven’t aged, what’s the secret behind that?
Be positive and you will feel, look, and exuberate only the positive.
A.
knowing your priorities. Once you do these two things, nothing is impossible. Q. With a baby on board, how has your life changed by being a mother? Will we be seeing less of you in shows and films now? A. Like I said if you can prioritise things nothing is impossible. Right now everything I do is around my baby's timings and when I feel I can get back to work full time I will do so. But currently I'm also working on various projects that require me not to get out of the house much; its all about managing.
Q. You had an adorable baby boy recently and it’s very hard to tell that looking at how fit you are; what is your fitness regime? A. One needs to control their diet especially in the field we are in. A healthy diet ensures a healthy mind. I have learned when to say no to extra calories, no matter how tempted I may be. A good balance and self control I would say. Q. It’s been a year since you’ve been married, was it hard to manage personal and professional life for you and for your husband? A. I always tell people that life is about managing your time
Q. For you, like most mothers, there’s a lot going on in life with work, family, friends and motherhood. It must be hard to get time to relax and sleep, how do you cope with that?
A. I love my at least 8 to 9 hours
When I am working and the environment allows me I take catnaps which are good for short rejuvenation. of sleep.
Q. How important do you think a good night’s sleep is for a mother and an actor? A. A
good night’s sleep is as important as fresh air. If your sleep is
disruptive and short, the entire next day is half lived and cannot be enjoyed fully. It affects you both physically and mentally.
