CAN YOU REALLY BALANCE IT ALL
Nicole Mason
Why do we continue to spend so much time and energy talking about having a well-balanced life and trying to balance that which cannot be balanced at all!? For many women, we have many different roles: wife, mother, chauffeur, cook, maid, negotiator, doctor, counselor … and these are the roles we have before we leave our homes. Then, after we leave home, we take on roles such as that of an entrepreneur, community servant, and the list goes on. You get the picture. There isn’t a way to properly balance all these roles. So, I would like to offer a different perspective. We must learn to prioritize what’s important from the list of tasks at hand and be open to asking for help. I know we have been told and trained to believe that we can multi-task, but that is not realistic. When we multi-task, something will fall through the crack, or we will not give one of our tasks, our full and undivided attention. The results will show it. Times have changed, and our lives are moving at a much faster pace than the generations before us. With that in mind, give yourself a break and stop trying to balance that which cannot be balanced. We have been called to live full and complete lives. And this simply means that at certain times in our lives, some things will take priority over others. To achieve success, the key is knowing which task should take the top spot, at each given time in our lives. Only you can make that decision. This is critical, in order to ward off stress and unnecessary drama. In addition, learn to say no and mean it! Focus your time and attention on what is the priority to you, at that time. Teach others how to honor you and your time by the way you honor it and yourself.
