The Difference Between Commitment And Interest pedro-campos.com/difference-commitment-interest/ December 28, 2017

In one of my previous articles, I mentioned that there was one thing that could deeply impact one`s ability to succeed. Success assumes many shapes and forms for different people, for some it may mean a big bank account, getting a degree, for others, quality time with their families or climbing the corporate ladder. John C. Maxwell, in one of his many books, “Today Matters”, affirms that success is the capability for someone to reach their true potential. But, what does it really take to reach our true potential? I haven`t reached mine, yet, so I can`t tell you how it feels, but one thing that I can say is that nobody will start discovering how far they can push themselves by merely developing an interest in their journey! To understand this, we have to take a look at what really means being committed or interested in something… as stated in the dictionary, commitment is “the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity.” On the other hand, interest is defined as “the feeling 1/2

of wanting to know or learn about something or someone.” Now, you don`t need to have gone through Harvard to realize that there`s a big difference between being dedicated and wanting to… how many people do you know that live jumping from one thing to another and never really get good at anything? At this time, you know the reason why, there was a lack of commitment, therefore, the results are as expected. Throughout my short experience on planet earth, I have become more aware that most people whom I had the opportunity to come across with, unfortunately, don`t have a commitment plan for their lives. Their marriages fail, they don`t get a pay raise or promotion, they show up in the gym from January to February and complain the rest of year because they are still fat… no wonder life sucks for these people. Being interested in regards to everything you do, will produce one of two things: average or no results! “How you do anything is how you do everything.” – T. Harv Eker One simple task you can do to reinforce your commitment to anything you want to achieve is to have a formal structure. Hire a personal trainer and commit yourself to show up at the designated time, no matter what, write down your income goals every day, rate your expenses form 1 to 5, being 1 the “essential” and 5 the “don`t need it”, mark a time of the day when you dedicate to spend with your spouse or family members… these are some real-life examples for you to understand how important it is to have a structure in your life, almost like a script, where you wake up every day and you know exactly what to do to improve your current conditions. Commitment is the fuel that produces constant growth and maximum results, the ability to live up to your true potential… as far as interest goes, will give you the opportunity to go through life as a boat on the ocean without a gas tank.
