Architectural Experience

The thesis concludes the study on how to make sensible use of modern technology to design built forms that rectify the regional aspects in it.

RAA is a 20 year old architecture firm in Osaka, Japan. My responsibilities included designing various Japanese projects at Design Development level and Construction Design level. Various presentation, computational 3D development and various construction manuals were produced during this time. I have also carried out the Design Development for the project in Malaysia and currently managing the construction of a project in Detroit, USA. Organizning meetings, reviewing the budget summaries, coordinating the design decisiions and reviewing the submittals are my recent roles as part of responsibilities.

Annual Nasa Design Competition Krvia (Waterfront Development) Mind Rain (Competition archi) University Of Westminster Zonal Nasa Design Competition Annual Nasa Design Competition Louis I Kahn (LIK) Trophy

At BINAA Studio I have designed & prepared construction manuals for a metallic-fluidic Facade with computational inputs & its systemization, Auditorium shells with origami applications and various other presentations.

Controlled Angular operations governing the geometry of Secondary Insulating surfaces. ( First parametric operation)

Glass is integrated with the Facade geometry.

Surfaces are panellised in accordance with the lower axis distribution and the interpolation in the proportion of 1:5.

Insulation has been given some offset distance from the slabs for the structural work of Facade.

It simplifies the huge panells to its minimum and gives the opportunity to apply the operation at DNA.

Evaluation & Simplification of surfaces for the Tertiory Parametric geometry. ( Second parametric operation)

Use of Local Materials: Using local natural materials, craftmanship* amateurs together contributd in building up this small significant peice of architecture. Despite of its organic form, it is made of locally harvested lumber, mostly cedar, that was cut into short pieces and joined together to form a sturdy structure. The interior & exterior finishes of the building are made from the soil around the site. For the exterior walls and roof. mud dumplings mixed with soil and cement are applied to create the appearance of a muddy mountain. The interior walls and ceilings are plastered with local soil, tightened with countless hands by many people. All the components of this building including furniture, fixtures, fitttings are also made of the locally available wood. 1.

The project proceeded with a deep research of Malaysian traditional architecture, houses arrangement, spatial configuration and their response to the climatic conditions. Often the site visits enabled to realize the actual conditions of the malaysian environment. The current design arrived through a lot of design studies, all carried by myself at RAA, Osaka. It conclusion respects the regional values, their traditions and techniques. The spatial character lifts the soul to establish a communication with the supreme leader. The double curved roof with a mesh wooden structure and the thatch roofing material weaves it with the surrounding nature. All developed through computational means while the main factors remains the Regional values. I was fortunate to complete the Schematic Design and Design Development phase of this project while my stay at RAA.
