INTRODUCTION

You cannot live without agriculture and human sciences. These are the lifeline of the human race. We encourage a partnership with us to ensure life flourishes as we are at the forefront of growth and impacting the State of Texas. The College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Prairie View A&M University is the primary advocate in the state of Texas for underserved student populations and limited resource clientele with a dedication to foster academic excellence, increase well-being and enhance economic opportunities through research, education and service in agriculture and the human sciences. Underserved populations are the primary focus of the College, reaching out to the farmers and ranchers in these counties to maximize and enhance livestock and crop production, home efficiency and economic stability, family life and nutrition, as well as youth development. Your partnership allows us to continue impacting not only the state, but the world. Our efforts to tackle the foreseen population increase and food demand of 2050, has us resilient in creating solutions through our Project 2050 efforts. ACADEMICS

The Department of Agriculture, Nutrition and Human Ecology is geared to prepare students for the career of their dreams. For animal lovers, there’s an animal science program where our professors and research scientists will help you explore the study of animal genetics. With access to more than 700 acres of farmland right on campus, students will graduate with the hands-on experience needed to succeed. Nutrition, food science and dietetics is also covered and students who want to become park rangers, veterinarians, food inspectors, dietitians, government officials, business owners, county agents, fashion designers, ranchers and many other positions can get the education and experience they need.

EXTENSION

Through a well-organized network of professional educators and more than 4,000 trained volunteers, the Prairie View A&M University Cooperative Extension Program delivers practical research-based knowledge to small farm producers, families, aspiring entrepreneurs and youth in 35 Texas counties. We work with people who need us the most. Many of them have limited personal or family assets, limited opportunities or they come from communities that have limited resources. Our clientele view us as a trusted resource for information. Cooperative Extension Program agents and specialists respond not only with answers, but meet people where they are and move them along to the next level. We offer programs that work for people in the areas of 4-H & Youth Development (4H), Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR), Community and Economic Development (CED) and Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS).

RESEARCH

The Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) is the unit within the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences that plays an important role in agriculture, natural resources and life sciences. The CARC component helps Prairie View A&M University fulfill its landgrant mission of teaching, research and service. Agricultural research in the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center is divided into the following areas: Animal Systems, Plant Systems, Food Systems, Natural Resources and Environmental Systems and Social Systems and Allied Research.

LAND-GRANT UNIVERSITY Prairie View A&M University is the largest of all 1890 Land-Grant Universities. In a network of historically black colleges and universities dedicated to providing educational opportunity for all through innovative scientific research and community-minded extension programs.

Founded in 1876, Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) is the second oldest state-sponsored institution of higher education in Texas. Apart of the Texas A&M University Systems, PVAMU’s College of Agriculture and Human Sciences has a unique task to be the primary advocate in the state of Texas for underserved student populations and limited resources clientele.

Through innovation and discovery we will assist our community to create and maintain the conditions under which people and nature can exist in productive harmony for present and future generations.
