URGENT: CALLING ALL BRANCH TREASURERS! The Sovereign Draw Lottery has now directly benefited over forty branches of UKIP February 2016 Dear Branch Treasurer 2016 BRANCH INCENTIVE SCHEME Many of you, as Branch Treasurers, will have had personal contact with me, or one of my colleagues, at some time over the last three years. Perhaps I have visited one of your regular meetings to give a talk on the Sovereign Draw, or you may have stopped by for a chat at Conference? You might also be one of the forty plus lucky branches that have received a cheque from me towards your branch funds, as every Sovereign Draw winner also wins a donation of £100 for their branch. Either way, the undisputed fact is that the Sovereign Draw is raising and donating everincreasing sums of money to UKIP, either directly to Head Office, or to branches such as yours. In 2015 we undertook a pilot scheme to see how branches might be able to partake in the Sovereign Draw Lottery sales process in return for donations to branch funds. Several lessons were learnt. We now know that some branches are very well established and solvent whilst others, perhaps only constituted in recent times, are less financially sound. Accordingly, the directors have decided to establish a scheme that will enable every branch in the country to benefit from the Sovereign Draw, whether they have hundreds of subscribing members or are still at the early stage of their development. The scheme will work as follows: for every twenty-five players a branch signs up to play the Draw for a whole year, your branch will receive a donation of £100. This will be paid upon submission of the simple pro-forma that will be supplied to you, along with branch-customised Lottery Application Forms. For some branches this is an opportunity to earn a considerable sum. For newer, smaller branches the immediate prospects may appear to be less attractive, but as the Sovereign Draw is open equally to non-members the potential for all branches is equal. In addition, it is hoped that towards the end of the year, if the scheme is a success, a profit sharing bonus akin to a small dividend can be distributed to all participating branches. This would not replace donations to Head Office, but rather augment them. It is a concept that can be developed in the years ahead. Initially, I would ask you to signal your intention, as a branch, to join the scheme by contacting me by the end of March. This will be acknowledged and a Sovereign Draw Account Number allocated to your Branch. That number will not change and further details of the scheme will be supplied to you at the same time. When emailing me, please put ‘Sovereign Draw Branch Scheme’ in the subject box and be sure to clearly indicate which BRANCH you act for. Two Directors of Sovereign Draw are available, when diaries permit, to visit participating branches to give promotional talks and meet Treasurers. These are exciting days and I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely, Mark Harland (Promoter) mark888harland@btinternet.com

Nigel Farage

PARTY LEADER

Why now is the time to venture out on our own THIS IS THE START OF A BIG YEAR BOTH for our country and for UKIP as a party. We start off in good spirits and in good shape. YouGov’s end of year poll had UKIP on 17%, up from where we were at the General Election. When it comes to the number one issue for the British people – immigration and border controls – UKIP is now the most trusted political party in the country amongst voters. This is significant and shows how our argument for an Australian-style points system has won us tremendous support across the country. 29% of people now trust us the most on this vitally important issue, more than trust the Conservatives or Labour. There is no doubt that establishing the link between EU membership and open door immigration has been the biggest factor in the growth of UKIP’s vote over the last few years and that the issue will now become the biggest factor that will determine the outcome of the referendum on our membership of the European Union. THE ARGUMENT HAS RECENTLY BECOME even more serious. No longer are we just talking about the impact on people’s income caused by wage compression, or of massive pressure put on our infrastructure and public services. Though these remain important, when we talk about EU open borders we are now talking about our safety, our security and the cultural make-up of British towns and cities. I did try and warn with some of my speeches in the European Parliament that the folly of the EU’s Common Asylum Policy was a dangerous and grave error. That the idea of allowing anyone who wanted to come to Europe to be allowed WHO DO YOU TRUST TO TELL THE TRUTH ON IMMIGRATION?

29% UKIP 24% Conservatives 15% Labour 5% Lib Dems ComRes, December 2015

A European Union which loses control of immigration, which jeopardises its own precious, civilised values, then lies about it because it doesn’t want to “spread a bad mood”, doesn’t deserve my support. Allison Pearson, Chief Interviewer and columnist for the Daily Telegraph

to stay was madness. And indeed I also pointed out that inevitably some of those who came would be Islamic State terrorists. I warned that we should not, could not, afford to allow our compassion to imperil our civilisation by allowing countless amounts in without proper checks. SADLY WE NOW SEE THE RESULT OF THIS failed EU approach. British intelligence officials now warn that Isis are actively exploiting refugee routes to come to Europe, with some determined to get into Britain and do us harm. We see the chaos in Cologne that took place on New Year’s Eve with women being assaulted by a group of up to 1,000 migrant men. Even top EU officials now admit that the majority of those coming into Europe are not refugees fleeing death or persecution, but are economic migrants. Events have caused the likes of journalist Allison Pearson (above) to conclude that to protect British women, we must leave the EU and take back control of our borders. So during this EU referendum we must make these arguments. That we are safer, more secure, outside of the EU running our own affairs with strong border controls.

5

BUT WE AS A PARTY HAVE TO DO EVEN more than that. May 5th represents a massive set of elections for us as a party and will be a huge challenge organisationally. We have the chance of winning seats in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and London, as well as local elections and Police & Crime Commissioner elections too. My aim is for UKIP to be the only party that wins seats across all four parts of the United Kingdom. With your help, we can do it. All of us in UKIP want our country back. We all believe that we must leave the European Union so that we can make our own laws, negotiate our own trade deals, stop handing Brussels £55 million every single day and of course control our borders. THAT IS WHY I WAS DELIGHTED TO SHARE a cross-party platform in Kettering recently, under the banner of Grassroots Out. Though we in UKIP of course will have our differences with those in other parties, when it comes to this vital issue of EU membership we must work with those who genuinely want to leave the European Union and are prepared to put their heads above the parapet to campaign for this country’s independence. Country must come before party. The meeting brought us together with Conservative MPs Liam Fox, Peter Bone, Tom Pursglove and Philip Hollobone, as well as Labour MP Kate Hoey, DUP MP Sammy Wilson and was chaired by UKIP MEP Margot Parker. It was a magnificent day, a fantastic event for all of us who believe in this great cause to free our country from the shackles of the European Union. A huge thank you goes out to Arron Banks and Leave.EU who supported the event and helped make it the huge success it undoubtedly was. I hope that in the weeks and months ahead we will all go on doing what we can to grab this golden opportunity, win the referendum and free our country from the European Union. Chairman Our message as we head to Llandudno: It’s all systems GO! ON FEBRUARY 19TH, DAVID CAMERON WILL emerge red-eyed and tousled from a marathon negotiating session with the other EU grandees (they may give him more than 15 minutes this time), and with his jaw set firm, declare that he has wrested major concessions for reform of the European Union. These ‘reforms’ will be some symbolic things we either already have or which can be ignored by the EU as soon as our back is turned – being allowed not to be in the Euro, setting a ‘target’ for cutting red tape, and exemption from ‘ever-closer union’; and one we don’t want – the right to withhold some benefits from migrants – as it will make no difference to the real problem that three-quarters of the UK want fixed right now: uncontrollable mass immigration.

Let’s Go! The cross-party launch was a massive success

More importantly, he will then almost certainly announce that the Referendum will be on June 23rd, giving us the minimum possible time to point out to the British people that this is hardly a ‘reformed EU’, and ensuring that the matter is got out of the way before the Summer Trafficking Season really ramps up. In that event, there will be 16 weeks for us to get the win. Just 16 weeks to identify all those who will vote for us, and get the right messages across to all those who are undecided. Yes, 16 weeks to knock on every door in the land, and ask people to vote to get our country back. It’s a tall order. That’s why we are enthusiastically backing a new group – Grassroots Out!, or GO! for short – which was launched in a blaze of glory (and a deafening silence from the big media) at Kettering on 23rd January. Labour’s Kate Hoey and former Tory Defence Secretary Liam Fox joined Nigel and the found-

ing group of Northamptonshire MPs (Peter Bone, Philip Hollobone and Tom Pursglove, all real ‘outers’) to start the process of bringing together all the Leave campaigners from every party, constituency-by-constituency, to knock on doors and find the votes we need to win. And that’s what we have to do, starting now. Every UKIP branch needs to do one thing above all: combine with other ‘outers’, knock on every door and find whether the household is for Remain, Leave or Not Sure. That information is gold dust. We can then ignore the Remains, put all our efforts into converting the Not Sures, and get all the Leaves out to vote on the day. You can simply note the information on a copy of the Electoral Roll, or use a computerised Voter ID system (like the Caseworker system our target seats used in the General Election). There are several of these systems available at modest cost, and we will provide details to the branches of how to get them. As Peter Bone said, it doesn’t have to be complex: just take a piece of paper to write down the address, and whether they are Leave, Remain or DK. Simples! GO! will be taking part in our Conference in Llandudno, providing insights and training to help our branches achieve this substantial task – and build a historic victory.

From UKIP Myths to Europhile Fairy Tales MANY PEOPLE HAVE WRITTEN TO ME ABOUT the ‘newspaper’ Europe & You which fluttered onto 10 million British doormats last week. Allegedly financed by Goldman Sachs, this spectacular damp squib gave a transparent (and useful) insight into how the Remains are going to fight the campaign. On page one, we heard the old canard about 3 million jobs, followed by the startling assertion

Leave it out, the Europe & You campaign ‘newspaper’

that the EU makes all of us richer (according to ‘independent experts’, the CBI), and lowers prices in our shops. The egregious European Arrest Warrant got a look-in too, suggesting a Lib-Dem hand behind the publication. TURN TO PAGE EIGHT

INDEPENDENCE FEBRUARY 2016 FROM PAGE SEVEN

On pages 2 and 3 we heard the same things again, plus the fact that holidaymakers get free emergency healthcare in EU countries. On the back, the same ‘facts’ are re-ordered to take a swing at six UKIP ‘myths’ (thank you, all credits gratefully received). Is that it? MEMBERS ARE ASKING WHAT WE’RE DOING ABOUT it. Fear not, the guns are being rolled up to the front, and we will blow this nonsense out of the water. Our new leaflet Do you know why we should stay in the EU? is starting to roll off the presses and will be with you shortly.

Do you

know why we should stay in the

European Union?

Our latest literature will be available shortly

The card Who wants to join the Euro? is now being shipped to the Regional Organisers for distribution. And we are developing our answer to the Europhiles’ flimsy arguments: the Risks of Remaining. The first of these forms the topic of our first official Party Political Broadcast which airs this week – Risks of Remaining in the EU, No 1: Turkey Joins.

Let’s all go to Llandudno OUR 2016 SPRING CONFERENCE ON FEBRUARY 27 could be the opening event of the Leave campaign proper, if the Referendum announcement is

made in the preceding week. And let’s not forget that on 5th May, our performance in the major elections in Scotland, Wales, London and Northern Ireland will have a huge effect on UKIP’s (and the Leave campaign’s) fortunes in the Referendum a month later. We’ll be both launching our election campaigns, and unveiling the key messages for the Referendum campaign, on the Risks of Remaining in the EU. Quentin Letts, the iconoclastic political sketch-writer for the Daily Mail, will be coming, and speaking at the Gala Dinner on Friday, Febraury 26. We will have speakers such as Henry Bolton, the Foreign Office’s adviser on Border Security to the EU’s External Action Service. And for the first time we will be welcoming Outers from other parties to our platform, under the GO! umbrella. This is a Conference not to be missed, a historic event in a beautiful seaside location. World expert on Border Security, and a UKIPper SPEAKING alongside Diane James MEP at Llandudno on 27th February, to launch the second of our big Risks of Remaining – the Risk to our Security – will be Henry Bolton OBE. Henry is an active UKIP member in Kent, and our candidate for Police & Crime Commissioner in the County. But he is also recognised as one of the world’s leading experts on national border strategies. On the missing list... UKIP Cllr Denis Crawford

Councillor’s family call police after no sign of Denis over two hectic days A HARD-WORKING UKIP COUNCILLOR WAS SO busy attending meetings that his family reported him missing to police. Two police officers interrupted a meeting of Thetford Town Council in Norfolk on Tuesday evening, January 26, searching for Denis Crawford. The UKIP councillor, who also serves on Norfolk County and Breckland District Council, had been reported missing by his family after leaving home at 7am on Monday, January 25. He arrived back at his house at 10pm only to set off again at 7am the following morning. Little did he know that his daughter had been trying to track him down and eventually grew so concerned she contacted police. Two PCSOs were dispatched and tracked him down to the council meeting. “It was a huge surprise. The first thing I knew about any concerns was when two officers poked their heads around the door and asked for me, Cllr Crawford said. “I was thinking ‘what’s wrong?’ but the officers explained they were looking for me because I hadn’t been seen at home for such a long time.” Cllr Crawford said he had spent nearly five hours in an adult social services meeting, followed by a Breckland planning consultation and an action group meeting on Monday. On Tuesday, he was at a children’s services committee meeting, then a UKIP group meeting followed by the full town council meeting. He said: “It’s not an unusual schedule - I guess it just highlights how hard people in local government work. “I went back into the meeting and asked the mayor if I could interrupt proceedings to explain what happened. “Everybody took it in good humour but I’m sure I’ll get a bit of stick from my fellow councillors.”

Party Director

PAUL OAKDEN

Why our role in the referendum is so important THE VAST MAJORITY OF OUR MEMBERS haven’t had the good fortune of meeting our Head Office team in Devon. This small group all work incredibly hard and their efforts are so often responsible for the little things that we all know work, but don’t often give much thought to. On Christmas Eve I volunteered to divert the Head Office phone number to my office in Leicestershire so that they could begin their festive preparations a little earlier; it was a well-deserved gesture and for my part an opportunity to learn first-hand the sort of things that prompt our membership to call in. Primarily the calls were good wishes for Christmas, branch queries and requests for contact details which I managed to bat through with little difficulty, but it was the last call of the day I wanted to share with you. At 5:47pm on Christmas Eve a gentleman rang our Head Office saying that he wanted to re-join UKIP. I learnt that his membership had lapsed a few months earlier and he’d decided not to renew for a variety of well-articulated reasons. Delighted that he’d chosen to become a member again I was keen to know what had prompted the call at such a time on Christmas Eve! He told me he’d just read an article online discussing the impending referendum. It outlined the various groups and sides that were being formed ready for battle but made only a whispering comment about UKIP and our leader Nigel Farage. My caller was outraged, and his final comment resonated such that I felt compelled to share it with all of you: “This is UKIP’s referendum. UKIP did this for Britain and UKIP need to be leading the debate, not just an afterthought. This party is more important now than they have ever been and I want to help make sure they stay that way.” Now there’s a New Year’s Resolution we should all share. 2015 CLOSED WITH THE BY-ELECTION IN Oldham West & Royton. What an experience it was for those of us fortunate enough to work with John Bickley and his campaign.

This will be key to our successes in the future and I’d ask everybody able to walk the streets and knock on doors to speak to your local chairman to see how you can help. JANUARY HAS ALREADY FLOWN BY BUT this year offers far more electoral promise to UKIP than 2015 ever could and we all need to think of what we can do to help bring that promise to fruition.
