dabangg 3 The film is a sequel to the 2012 film Dabangg 2 and the third instalment of Dabangg film series. The muchawaited blockbuster features Salman Khan as the indomitable Robin Hood cop Chulbul Pandey once again. The superstar sports a lean, trim look since he will be seen as a college student in some sequences. Dabangg 3 will also see the returns of Sonakshi Sinha as Rajjo and Arbaaz Khan as Makkhi. In the 2010 film introduced Chulbul Pandey to the world, Dabangg 2 took his story forward. And now seven years later, Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan are ready to bring the third instalment with an interesting twist to the plot and a couple of interesting additions to the star cast. This PVR MOVIES FIRST

time, the film will focus on Chulbul Pandey’s past, which led to the circumstances in his present.
The Villain This time Chulbul Pandey will take on a new antagonist in Dabangg 3. Kannada actor Kichcha Sudeep plays Balli, a menacing villain who locks horns with Chulbul Pandey. Sudeep’s well-etched character is shown to be a victim of his own circumstances, adding shades of grey to his dark personality. He is a well-known name in South India, having acted in and directed several hit films in the region. He has also done a few Hindi films such as Rann, Phoonk and Rakta Charitra, all directed by Ram Gopal Verma. The climax of Dabangg 3 shows Salman Khan and Sudeep in a deathly bare-chested fight which promises to be the highlight of the film.
A Fresh Face Dabangg 3 will see the debut of actor-director Mahesh Manjrekar’s 21-year-old daughter, Saiee Manjrekar, who plays the love interest of Salman Khan in flashback. A trained classical dancer and a travel buff, Saiee has been cast as an innocent girl called Khushi, whose relationship with Salman’s character leads to the conflicts he faces in the present sequel. Interestingly, Saiee’s father Mahesh plays Salman Khan’s father in the film.
Did You Know • The same song ‘Munna Badnaam Hua’ will have a dance-off between director-choreographer Prabhu Deva and the lead actor Salman Khan. • The story is set in Madhya Pradesh, specifically in Indore where Salman Khan was born, and Mandleshwar and Maheshwar, where his grandfather, a police officer, was once posted. • Sudeep, who had to look bigger than Salman Khan and present a towering figure, lost 14 kilos to play the villain in Dabangg 3. The actor says he was helped by the fact that he was concurrently shooting for the Kannada film Pailwaan, in which he plays a wrestler. • The film features an item song titled “Munna Badnaam Hua,” in which Salman Khan shakes a leg with actress Warina Hussain, who made her debut in Loveyatri (2018).

Tisca Chopra
GUEST INTERVIEW
Actress, Good Newzz
Tisca Chopra, the multitalented actress who recently made waves with her own short film, Chutney, takes us behind the scenes of the upcoming comedy Good Newzz. What attracted you to the script? It’s a Dharma Productions film, to begin with. Their reach is fantastic and their production values are top-notch. Then of course, the script itself. It contains a powerful and important social message, without being preachy. That’s what made me want to be a part of it. Tell us about your role. Well, I have played a doctor in two consecutive productions now. In the thriller series Hostages, and now this. In Good Newzz, I’ll be seen as a fertility specialist—more specifically, an embryologist. It is my first ever comic role and I’ve enjoyed it to the hilt. There were times when we would stop the monitor and laugh till we had stitches in our sides. This was so fresh and new for me, since I have always played roles that required me to be somewhat understated. How was the experience of working with a debutant director. Honestly, I did not feel for a moment that this was Raj Mehta’s debut film. In a sense it isn’t; he’s worked on a large body of films before this one. In fact, we shot one together long ago, which unfortunately did not see the light of day. Raj is an evolved soul, and this film is the perfect vehicle for his talents. One scene you’d like us to watch out for. Undoubtedly the scene where the news of the mix-up is announced. It was beyond hilarious! We totally cracked up, and I have to say that was the mood and flavour of this film all through. You’ll go back feeling warm and fuzzy, just like we did during the making. PVR MOVIES FIRST

Alex Wolff
RISING STAR
The mega-talented Alex Wolff started his acting career at the age of six and became famous through The Naked Brothers Band TV series, for which his mother, actress Polly Draper, wrote the screenplay. The Naked Brothers band launched a Nickelodeon series that ran for 42 episodes, starring Alex and his real brother Nat Wolff as tween rock stars – they even wrote and performed the music themselves, an early showing of the multidisciplinary approach to creativity Wolff still embraces. Don’t be surprised when you start noticing Wolff everywhere. The 21-year-old actor is busier than ever, delivering performance after bold performance that’s got everyone talking.

His Films
Wolff has worked with renowned filmmaker Peter Berg PVR MOVIES FIRST

on Patriot’s Day — the Boston Marathon bombing thriller that saw him playing the role of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the younger of the two terrorist brothers behind the Boston attack. Wolff has appeared in a steady stream of dark dramas over the last few years, including festival hits The House of Tomorrow and My Friend Dahmer.
Cage in the indie film Pig, directed by Michael Sarnoski. The film is themed around a truffle hunter who lives alone in the wilderness of Oregon with his beloved foraging pig. When the pig is kidnapped, he must journey into Portland — and his long-abandoned past — to recover her.
He played a supporting role in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, in which he was the teenager trapped in The Rock’s body. This was his first brush with international audiences. He reunited on-screen with his mother and brother for Stella’s Last Weekend, themed around two brothers who fall in love with the same girl. Wolff’s most talked-about performance has been in the disturbing family horror drama Hereditary, where he played a 16-year-old traumatised by a terrible haunting. He will now be seen in Jumanji: The Next Level, where he stars opposite stalwarts such as Danny deVito and Danny Glover.
UP CLOSE
Wolff shaved his head and put on 20 pounds for Cat And the Moon, a coming-of-age film that he wrote, directed and acted in. So passionate was he about the project that he got himself tattooed with a cat and the moon. His role in the horror movie Hereditary affected him so much that he would come home and comfort himself with a load of food and watched cartoons. He still cannot listen to the soundtrack from the film; it gives him goosebumps. Wolff is obsessed with watching horror movies. His favourite is the classic Rosemary’s Baby. He is currently a terrible cook but wants to learn how to make a souffle.

J.J.Abrams
PVR MOVIES FIRST
PAGE 26
The Cinema of
J.J.Abrams Jeffrey Jacob Abrams, better known as his screen moniker J.J. Abrams, was born in New York, USA, on June 27, 1966. He is the son of television producer Gerald W. Abrams and executive producer Carol Ann Abrams. His incredible body of work has made him one of Hollywood’s most legendary directors. He is also a television producer, screenwriter, actor and composer. As a child, Abrams developed an interest in magic, an early indicator of his later fascination with special effects. He was curious about movies and was intrigued that directors, like magicians, could make things and people disappear. Abrams is known for his work in the genres of action, drama, and science fiction. He has written or produced films such as Regarding Henry (1991), Forever Young (1992), Armageddon (1998), Cloverfield (2008), Star Trek (2009), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), and the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). His major motion picture directing debut was Mission Impossible III, where he was given the task to revive the franchise. Thanks to his experience and knowledge as a writer and producer, he got a chance to revive the Star Trek franchise with a total reboot. He followed that film with Super 8, his first original film as director and an obvious homage to Steven Spielberg, who he worked with on this film. Star Trek Into Darkness is his latest
Masters@Work
film. More importantly, he’s at the helm of the heavily anticipated Star Wars Episode. 5 Signs You’re Watching a J.J. Abrams Film:
Lens Flares
Abrams is known—and sometimes criticised—for his use of lens flare, which creates a blinding sort of effect as light bounces off the lens. He also uses close-ups that are at times uncomfortably close.
Speed Zoom
He makes extensive use of snap zoom, with the camera finding an object and then zeroing in on it fast. The zoom creates a hectic sense of activity, an urgent need; it whips up a heightened feeling of chaos. In both Star Trek and its sequel, the camera never stops swirling: Abrams’s visual priority is, above all else, movement.
The Theme of Loss
Abrams lost his mother to cancer in 2012. Perhaps that explains why almost every film he makes depicts the emotional impact of losing a parent. The first scene after the credits in Mission Impossible III, mentions the death of a major character’s parents. The first scene of Star Trek is Kirk’s father’s last hurrah, and Super 8 opens with the death of the main character’s mother.
Untrustworthy Authority Figures
In a J.J. Abrams film, you can’t trust the government. You definitely can’t trust people who operate at high levels of the government. Mission: Impossible 3‘s Musgraves, Alias‘s CIA-agent-gone-rogue Sloane, Super 8‘s Colonel Nelec…all men with shadowy motivations.
Obsession with Mystery
Abrams’ movies aren’t about characters solving mysteries; in his work, characters quite literally are the mysteries, with key information about them slowly revealed. In both of his Star Treks, the villainous figures are introduced with no explanation and we only gradually come to understand who they are. In Alias, with its double and triple agents, we realise that a central character had been lying about his or her life for the entire run of the show. PVR MOVIES FIRST
