STONE BRIDGE’S CHILLI COOKOFF

GREAT FOOD AND SMALL BUSINESSES

When the weather starts to cool down and the leaves begin to change color, that can only mean one thing in PWC, it’s time for chili! The annual Stonebridge Fall Fest and Chili Cook Off is here again to kick off the autumn.

This festival features a whole day of competition among professional and amateur cooks vying for prizes in various categories.

In addition to plenty of delicious chili to sample, there are also other foods, drinks, and activities available at this festival held every September. Featuring a variety of local vendors, food trucks, live music, and more. The aromas of the grill floated all through Stonebridge as Crowds bustled from the beginning of the street to the end. Local small business vendored on the streets promoting their services, products and food!

Small businesses are the backbone of any community. They are what makes a town unique and special; THAT’S WHY IT’S SO IMPORTANT TO SUPPORT THEM! One great way to show your support is by attending a small business festival. These festivals are a fun way to get out and explore all the amazing

local businesses in your area. You’ll be able to find everything from delicious food and drinks, to one-of-a-kind gifts and products. And of course, you’ll be supporting hardworking small business owners in your community! Pictured below: Victor Angry with local business owner at Stone Bridge’s Chilli Cookoff.

Entre Dos Mundos (Between Two Worlds)

Whether feeling displaced from a culture while assimilating to a new one, or feeling consumed by daily life and pondering what the afterlife may hold for you - this collection of paintings is intended to capture the energy, images and nostalgia of two worlds I am drawn to.

I was adopted as a baby in the United States and have no knowledge of my actual origin. Even as a child, I felt misplaced because I felt no connection to the people who adopted me or the life I was living. I had frequent dreams (NOT nightmares) of being alive after my death, and living in a different world. It wasn’t until I traveled to Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador that I finally felt “at home” and grounded for the first time in my life.

My obsession with life and death - and especially life after death - has plagued me since childhood and is now explained through Dia de los Muertos. Even with a profound connection to a culture that feels so natural to me and has unofficially “adopted” me, I am infinitely aware that I still live between two worlds.

About David Amoroso

David Amoroso shows his admiration for Latin culture through his artwork. His artistic passion is divided between painting, photography, and block and screen prints. Although the majority of David’s work is dedicated to paint ing iconic portraits of everyday people, he also represents Mexican pop culture through his work. His involvement within the Latino art community has allowed him to create Mexican altars for Día de los Muertos and Guatemalan Alfombras de Aserrín. His art has brought him to exhibit and work in the DC Metro area, California, Arizona, North Carolina, Mexico, Central and South America.

ARTS ALIVE

A FESTIVAL CELEBRATING LOCAL ARTS

The Arts Alive! Festival presented by Prince William County Arts Council in conjunction with George Mason University was created as a kind of a “tonic for the arts” a spectac ular cultural event designed to raise spirits, share in creativity, and show the great talent that the Greater Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park has to offer. Even under cloudy skies and a bit of precipitation the sunshine of talent, creativity, excited guests and smiling faces shone through. The love of, and for the arts brought over 1500 locals out to the

Hylton Performing Arts Center for this annual event, and it did not disappoint. Even under grim skies Arts Alive! offered a riot of colors through the works of over 50 artisans, strolling characters, visual artists, children’s activities, delicious food, and we mustn’t forget the Over 20 performances that graced 4 stages throughout the facility. The great staff of the Hylton Performing Arts Center were on hand to ensure that each performance was technically sound and presented in its best light. This was truly an afternoon of great fun and excitement for all who showed.

ARTS ALIVE WAS TRULY AN AFTERNOON OF GREAT FUN AND EXCITEMENT FOR ALL WHO SHOWED.

PRODUCERS’ SHOWCASE

SHOWING OFF TOP PRODUCERS IN PWC

Battle Of the Beats, Producer Showcase at Clearbrook center of the Arts. Early this September Clearbrook Center of the Arts set up a showcase for a number of producers from Manassass, Woodbridge, Centerville, Stafford, Richmond and other parts of Virgina to high light the most essential part of all genres of music: the beat! Melodies of instruments and rhythms of drums, in patterns to create a tune that sticks with a listener. Conceived by John Wooten and the CLXXD Clothing and Music group to be a social networking event with the clear goal of supporting the producer who is often overshadowed by the vocalist. The Arts center came alive with a pounding bass and flashing lights as vendors sold clothing, jewelry and candles alongside a crowd eager to support their favorite producer in a head to head style battle of the favorites. The crowd used a voting system of holding up a one or two to select who had the majority vote and was the crowd favorite to select the winner of the battle. Attendees were invited to dance and even freestyle over the beats as a form of engagement with a gaming sec tion provided by gaming convention host conjustu to allow children to play video games while at the event on a nintendo switch system.

Each battle ended with solidarity and appreciation between com petitors who congratulated each other on their creativity regardless of winner or loser. Each producer walked away with ideas of how they wanted to come back and compete in the future. This event which will occur again on November 18th will contribute to serve as a platform for producers who are seeking to network and grow their audience. Hosted yet again at the Clearbrook Center Of the Arts.

ARTIST

I’m reminding you to go back, rewind, even if only in the folds of your mind. Go back to the gallery.

Wear your dark glasses and cavalry coat. Be that thumbprint against the white wall, aus tere in the art of your own dress, halls hailing you just for being yourself – as if you were light itself.

Return to the paintings that reflected you, retelling your story by heart. Step lightly into the stairwell.

Hear how the right kind of marble echoes

your lightest steps, speaks of the days when your brightest thoughts were on brush strokes and hue and any kind of reframing had to do with you.

Hear how the halls repeat your name. Listen as they whisper it again, reminding everyone what it is to be. You were always meant to be beauty. We all were.

CHECK IN WITH ABIGAIL FURR and BRITNEY LEE

LOCAL PWC RECORDING ARTISTS ARE EXPLODING ONTO THE MUSIC SCENE - PAINTING WITH FRIENDS

Up-and-coming artist of the greater Prince Willam Article from Painting With Friends interviews with local artist Abigail Furr and Britney Lee Painting With Friends Interview with Abigail Furr Abigail Furr was trained classically in music and started practicing the violin 10 years ago in elemen tary. She fell in love with music and would later pick up guitar being self taught in her high school years. During these peri ods her mother would take her to the open mics at Jirani coffee house on field trips allowing her time to work on her stage pres ence. In result she would grow to start booking her own shows in succession to the point of formu lating small tours for herself.

A feat not accomplished by many artists. The most outrageous

part being that Abigail has no released music. You can’t find any of her work on any platform. She abstains from releasing any pieces and prefers people see her live at the moment.

Something a digital age artist could never dream of in such a media digest society. Could Abigail be onto something I wonder? Is this how new underground artists build their platform? Abigail says it’s for branding. She’s building her brand and networking with results! Her songs are geared to touch on relatable topics of life and struc tured to make people pursue her performance for the musical expe rience.

We were able to sit down with her mid tour after her show in Phila delphia for a quick hour long chat. She discussed her travels in La and New York and brought up her

younger years of living in London along with her favorite spots to eat there. One of her favorite per formances so far has been the Lights On Festival in California where she got to meet Legendary Artist H.E.R. Abigail paints an open sky as she revisits these moments with excitement, a free sky that mirrors her personality and spirit. She describes herself in the Metaverse as a Giant Robot that can go anywhere she pleases. The idea of unstoppable plays about the subconscious. She wants to be bigger and she wants to be better no matter the setback. But also a robot because she wants that protection. She describes her self as an extrovert in music but introvert everywhere else.

Choosing when she wears that brand and when she can take that idea of herself off as she goes home to relax.

18

Abigail is really community focused and wants her music to have the ability to bring people together and enjoy themselves. Her dream is to have a space like the Open Space Arts In Stonebridge and invite artists in and possibly teach. Her dream instrument to learn is the harp.

Painting With Friends Interview with Britney Lee

Britney is an experienced writer, singer, guitarist, and pianist who also can express herself visually with applied arts and animations. She is currently learning to play the violin and is open to modeling if the opportunity arises. Britney has been busy in the studio working on a soon to drop project called Pluto

alongside a music video dropping next month titled “Shallow Love” a RNB selection. The project is space themed. I ask Britney if she sees herself making music full time and her dream collaborations.”I love making music, and I would love to be able to make a living off of it. I know that takes a lot of work, and I’m willing to put in the effort. I would love to collaborate with Local artist Buto and Celebrity singer Lana Del Rey. I feel like I could reach a lot of people with my music if I did more performances or open mics. I typically like to go on long drives by myself to clear my head. I’ll put on some music that I love and just sit in my car and decompress. On a bad day, I’ll do the same thing but I’ll also write some music of my

own. It helps me to get my emotions out and hopefully create some thing beautiful in the process.” In a metaverse environment Britney would like to be a full chrome MTV astronaut trophy, or a silent and anonymous figure. A representa tion of her out of this world mind and connection with music mixed with her desire to remain an introvert. Something she expresses in her dream concert. A bunch of visu als to take the focus off you while floating around planets.

Correlations we found between Abigail and Brittney. Both young artists use writing as a sense of therapy for emotional decompres sion and both dream of collabing with local artist Buto.

A WALK THROUGH GHANA

EXPERIENCING GHANAIAN TRADITIONS

Interview with Kwadwo Birikorang Adjei about his journey to capture the Walk Through Ghana experience.

Kwadwo

Birikorang Adjei who also prefers to go by Mr. Banks, is the photographer and the mind behind the celebrated and very success ful gallery showcase of The Walk Through Ghana. Mr Banks took this chance as his first international gallery to display his talents on large printed canvas. With pieces selling up to $800 for scenes into another world. “A picture is worth a thousand words but a docu mentary is worth a million”- Mr. Banks speaking on the documentary he put together showcasing the culture of Ghana. The same documentary that plays throughout the gallery as crowds view the selections now. This interview was a look inside how this success story came together.

Mr. Banks started his mastery of photography ten years ago between the period of 2012-2014 as he was hired for wedding photography. During this time he would travel the area with his brother capturing pictures of the unseen between gigs. Which would develop his passion for being a medium to an untold story. Something he is obviously zealous about given that for the first time in Painting with Friends history he never touched the paint brush once! From beginning to end of the hour long interview he was purely focused on discussing Ghanaian culture. Af ter 2014 he changed his focus to a documentary style ap proach instead of just normal photography with a blend of video and tale. Mr Banks is trained in graphic design and knows how to turn what he captures into something that ensnares the imagination while also highlighting the focus piece. “It’s important for us as black people to tell our stories and tell the world our story. I don’t want the narrative of Africa to be a negative one of poverty and hunger. I want them to see the positive too.” His goal with the walk through Ghana was to highlight different cultur al customs across Ghana and its tribes. To break the mis conception of what people know of the land. Something his documentary does easily. Here’s the QR link to the documentary to the left.

23

Kwadwo Birikorang Adjei was born and raised in Ghana and picked up his fathers camera as a child. This was before the age of digital cameras. He played with it in excitement with his siblings. Since then he has loved the joy a camera can bring to people. During our discussion I asked him how he obtained entry into all of the places needed to get pictures of certain cultural traditions. The answer, he didn’t. He had to be strategic and car ried just a backpack on his trip through Ghana with the mission of getting footage by any means. One accomplishment being a royal funeral, “The King’s mother died, this was a funeral covering the street with 20 thousand people. Presidents and leaders from other nations in Africa come to pay their respects.”

My ethnocentric American lifestyle struggles to com prehend as he tells me the magnitude of such an event which now I can only equate to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. This funeral was an international event that he brought back with him to Woodbridge Virginia along with many other Ghaninan traditions. Mr. Banks throughout the interview explains so much of Ghana ian culture from the religious spheres, to language di alects, cultural solidarity and way of life. He describes the feeling of returning to Ghana for this project as a spiritual journey and return. Scan QR code for full interview right.

OLD TOWN MANASSAS CLASSIC CAR SHOW

46th Edgar Rohr Memorial Car Meet

Held in front of the Manassas Museum is always a big hit with car enthusiasts of all ages. This year’s show was no exception, with classic cars of all makes and models on display, including some modern custom cars. From classic muscle cars, rare Europe an models, there was something for everyone to drool over. One of

the highlights of the show was the reconstruction of a Ford Mod el T truck in under 12 minutes. Starting as a pile of scraps in the street, these talented car histori ans pieced together the old ford Model T and drove it off the lot in lightning time.

Another popular attraction at the show was the classic car auc tion to win a 1966 ford mustang. It was a great opportunity for classic car fans to get their hands

on a piece of automotive history. Overall, the classic car show was a great success. It was a great op portunity for car enthusiasts to come together and celebrate their shared passion while also being able to try out some cuisines from around the world. Just next door to the car meet was the Manas sas International Food Festival serving up food this year from Ukraine and Greece.
