How to declutter

provides everything you need, every day.
The toolkit wardrobe The secret to successful wardrobe decluttering is to see your wardrobe as a top quality toolkit. You take out the best tool for the job, use it, then put it back again. To be honest, it’s not always easy – especially if you have an emotional attachment to specific clothes. But there’s no need to chuck everything out but, if they’re
Empty the closet Allow yourself at least a couple of hours for the next stage. Grab some large boxes and (don’t panic) bin bags. Take everything out of your wardrobe and lay it out on the bed. Sort your clothes into categories – tops, trousers, dresses, skirts – and into colours. It’s an incredibly helpful exercise because one of the first things you’ll notice is your repeat buying patterns.

Once you’ve spotted your repeat items, choose two or three of the best – the rest can go in your box or bin bag. Lifestyle outfits Now that you’ve pruned your repeat items, it’s time to start sorting your clothes into different outfits. There will be things you wear for work, clothes for going out and special occasions, stuff for relaxing at home and for hobbies. Once you’ve laid everything out, you can get going on putting together different outfits for each part of your lifestyle. Have fun mixing and matching. Some of your clothes will comfortably cross over into different lifestyle areas, and you’ll find new ways to wear a few things. You’ll probably spot wardrobe gaps at this point. It could be several things, or just a single key piece that will pull different outfits together. These gaps will form the basis of your next shopping trip. In the process, you’ll also spot clothes that you just don’t wear. Here’s the tricky bit… if that item doesn’t make you feel happy and confident, it doesn’t deserve a place in your wardrobe. Now’s the time to bite the bullet. Put it in that box or bin bag! What to do with the black bags Your boxes and bin bags may be overflowing by now. So what’s the best thing to do with them? Those unloved clothes don’t have to go in the bin. Give them to your local charity shop, eBay them or invite some friends round for a clothes swap. How to organise your wardrobe
B When it comes to putting your clothes back, keep the toolkit wardrobe in mind and make sure you can find things easily.
B It’s easy to add additional storage, if you need it. Hooks on the door work well for scarves and accessories, or add a shelf above or below the hanging space for T-shirts and jumpers. An additional rail halfway down is a great way to double the space. Think about investing in some good quality, slimline hangers too. and if you need some help To make sure your wardrobe decluttering is focussed on your best style, just get in touch with us and ask for a women’s style class You’ll get a fresh perspective on your own clothes and some expert advice on how to get that perfect capsule wardrobe. www.houseofcolour.co.uk

Start/Finish: This walk starts and ends at Museum near Church. Public Transport: You can reach Caerleon by train to Newport and by bus to Caerleon. Visit ‘Traveline’. Please check current timetables. Parking: There are several car parks in the town. (see sketch-map) O/S Map: Explorer Map 152 Distances: 3 miles or 2.5 miles Time: Allow all day. Although the walk is quite short, there are several museums, Roman barracks and an amphitheatre to explore. Refreshments: There are cafes, shops and pubs in Caerleon with plenty of picnic spots along the way. Terrain: The short walk is ‘wheel friendly’ - suitable for pushchairs and assisted wheelchairs. The museums are very obliging too. The main walk includes a steady uphill climb on a narrow side-sloping path, recommended only for those equipped with sturdy boots (with ankle support) and poles, particularly after rain when it is muddy. History: Caerleon brings Roman History to life. It is the site of a Legionary Fortress with the Roman Town of Caerwent just 8 miles to the east. It was one of the most important military sites in Britain housing 5000 Roman soldiers with their barracks, baths, amphitheatre, shops and temples. This walk is designed to educate the walker along the route which passes a number of Roman sites and museums. Please take time to explore this historic Welsh town (near Newport) on the tidal River Usk.
1: Walk starts at front of Caerleon Roman Legion Museum next to St. Cadoc’s Church in High Street. Use crossing to reach ‘The Broadway’ opposite. At car park, take footpath on left leading to Bridge. On right is Amphitheatre that could hold 5000 spectators. Originally Roman Fortress was built on front line but became a base from which to send soldiers to battle. (see sketch-map for area of town occupied by 52 acre Fortress with its four gateways). You will get chance to explore this area on return route. 2: Walking towards bridge, notice part of old town wall, around four metres high in places and a metre thick. Many buildings in current town built of stone from these walls. Go through gate and turn right to cross River Usk via
with advent of canals then railways, it ceased completely in 1896. 3: Across bridge, pass Ship Inn. You need to take left fork by octagonal Toll House built 1820 to charge tolls for use of Turnpike Road. Look back at how this older road lines up with bridge. 4: Shorter Walk avoiding hill climb. Turn left along Bulmore Road then resume main walk from Point 6. Main walk continues up road towards Christchurch Village. Pavement is fragmented so take care. Shortly you will notice footpath on left. Cross with care and walk up narrow wooded path. If it is very muddy, it will be like it all the way and descent will be difficult so turn round and follow shorter route. If okay, follow path for 2/3 mile to a junction where path on right goes across ‘Roman Road Golf Course’ towards Celtic Manor Hotel. 5: Walk left down to wider path which is old Roman Road from Caerwent to Caerleon. Take care as path descends steeply down to River Usk and Bulmore Road. Turn left and walk on right up above River Usk as far as ‘ Village’ with its pastel shaded cottages. 6: Turn right along Isca Road. Roman Bridge went across here to line up with current High Street.
Stone Bridge opened in 1806 to replace wooden bridge

the tale of two different cities Milan is often associated with a place used to transport people to other Italian tourist attractions such as the Piedmont region or simply a business or shopping city.
