World book day
at dodderhill school
Junior pupils at Dodderhill School dressed up to celebrate World Book Day yesterday on 3rd March. The winners for the most creative outfits were chosen by the junior staff and a poetry book was awarded to the winners in a special assembly. During the day, the school held a book fair provided by Scholastic, and all pupils were
given a token for £1 to spend on books over the next few weeks. For all books sold, the school receives a percentage of the sales back as free books to complement the library and classroom book shelves. HAYDAYS: Hay Festival for
Families and Children Marvellous Hay Festival returns this summer half-term, bringing with it excitement, entertainment and value for money. Yay for Hay!
The site boasts many activities with a Make and Take Tent and Mess Tent where kids join all sorts of crafts, activities and drop-in workshops. The Woodland Trust are on the site all week, too. Hay Festival’s HAYDAYS programme, 28 May - 5 June 2016, provides a great day out with opportunities for children to take part in model-making with Aardman Studios, word-play with The Word Wizards Guide to Roald Dahl and to attend fantastic talks with their favourite authors and brilliant speakers such as historian Lucy Worsley and scientist Robert Winston.
Morpurgo, author of War Horse and Listen to the Moon, will be appearing, too.
For the teenagers in your family there is the #HayYA programme which includes Malorie Blackman, author of the Noughts and Crosses, who will be talking about her new book Chasing the Stars. They will also have the chance to “Make & Edit” a film and develop their acting skills in drama workshops. For tots, teens and in-betweens there really is something for all! For more information about the festival and to buy tickets go to: www.hayfestival.org or call the Box Office on 01497 822629. n
