Curry Todd: From Law Enforcement to Lawmaker Curry Todd is a Republican lawmaker in Tennessee. He is a member of the State House of Representatives and was first elected in 1998. Curry Todd is a proud native of the Volunteer State, where he was born in the town of Juno on the very last day of 1947.

Curry Todd attended the University of Memphis and began a career in law enforcement. He was a police office in Memphis, Tennessee’s largest city. Later, as a former police officer, Curry Todd was a legislative liaison and lobbyist for the Tennessee Fraternal Order of Police, a position he held from 1982 to 1987. Curry Todd also worked as a legislative liaison/lobbyist for the Memphis Police Department and Memphis Police Association from 1976 to 1988.

As a member of the State House of Representatives, Curry Todd represents the ninety-fifth district, which encompasses part of Shelby County. He is proud to possess spotless conservative credentials.

Curry Todd has been a member of the Shelby County Conservative Republican Club, the East Shelby County Republican Club, Republican Women of Purpose, and the Shelby County Republican Women, among others.

Curry Todd had the professional background to oversee plans to modernize law enforcement in the Volunteer State. He was appointed by then-Governor Lamar Alexander of Tennessee to develop, plan and implement uniform standards of employment, training and certification for police officers in Tennessee.

In 1981 Curry Todd was elected by the Peace Officers Standard Training Commission (POST) to develop and implement police legislation with the Tennessee General Assembly. That same year, he began service on Legislative Study Committees in the Tennessee General assembly in the area of corrections and criminal justice.

Curry Todd is also a member of the National Rifle Association and the Tennessee Wing Civil Air Patrol. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a national association of legislators.

During his career, Curry Todd’s achievements have been widely recognized, and he has been the recipient of many honors. These include the Tennessee PTA Life Time Achievement Award in 2006, the Tennessee Home Educators Association Legislator of the Year Award for 2001, the Award of Excellence Shelby County PTA Award in 2008, the FedEx Forum Legislator of the Year Award in 2009, and the Tennessee Association of Elected Officials Legislator of the Year Award in 2010.

Curry Todd is a member of the House State Government Committee, the House Business and Utilities Committee, and the House Business and Utilities Subcommittee. He belongs to the Baptist Church.
