Gary Kapanowski - Leadership Roles Gary Kapanowski is constantly looking for ways to improve his leadership skill, a fact that is evident in his extensive history of involvement in multiple professional organizations during his professional accounting career. As he knows, there are numerous leadership styles, and during some of his presentations he likes to make the distinction between being a leader and being a manager; they are not the same thing, even though the terms are sometimes used interchangeably. A manager can be defined as someone who facilitates the success of his team, and make sure that team members have the tools they need to be effective and successful. A leader, on the other hand, can be just about anyone with a particular talent whose creative thinking and experience can be useful to, and even inspire, the manager and the rest of the team. Gary Kapanowski is also proud to be a founding member of the Michigan State University Metro Detroit MBA Network Association, which got its start in 2004. He has provided MSU MBA alums throughout the area with an invaluable professional networking resource that continues to thrive. His involvement in organizational leadership has been an a valuable boost to his career, and has also made him one of the most respected and well known business and accounting professionals in the entire Detroit area. Gary Kapanowski has been a member of the government, the Defense industry and Infrastructure (GDI) Contractors, which allowed him to both discuss and support GDI social and business issues he believes were vital to the continued protection of national security and defense. He volunteered for the Michigan Defense Industrial Base Expo in 2011, and was a member of the National Defense industrial Association. He served as the President of the Detroit Chapter of the Michigan Alumni Association in 2008, providing leadership and input into the organization's decision-making process. Gary Kapanowski was also a member of the UMAA Detroit Chapter Board of Governors from 2006 to 2008. Gary Kapanowski seeks out and capitalizes on any opportunity to be a part of a professional decision-making process, earning him respect throughout the professional community.
