Lewis C Barbe - Expert Testimony Lewis Barbe is a certified Safety Engineer with many years of experience in the field. He is the Director of Engineering at Occupational Safety and Health Services, Inc., the past Corporate Director of Loss Control at American Hoist and Derrick, and the Manager of Accident Prevention at Westinghouse Electric, where he set a World Safety Record and was recognized with an award from the National Safety Council. He has pioneered new safety standards and been a member of numerous American National Standards Institute committees, and served as the Chairman of five of them. He has brought his expertise in Safety Engineering to bear in numerous legal proceedings, where he has served as an expert witness. Under Federal law he qualifies as an expert witness from his years of experience in Safety Engineering. The law states someone whose "knowledge, skill, experience, training or education" qualifies them to render a relevant opinion in a court of law. "The principles of engineering and safety engineering," Lewis Barbe always tells a court, "state that to arrive at an opinion as to the cause of injuries/incidents...an engineering determination must be made as to whether the injury resulted from an incident/accident, caused by an unsafe condition, unsafe acts, or from the personal characteristics of the personnel involved." As Lewis Barbe knows, expert witnesses sometimes get a bad publicity in the media. He knows that nothing could be further from the truth and that his role as an expert witness is both valid and an important part of a legal proceeding involving highly technical matters that can be best understood and explains by someone who is qualified. When an accident or incident case comes to court, an expert witness such as Lewis Barbe can help the attorneys and the client in several ways. Expert witnesses are able to not only help the court and the jury understand the technical issues of the case, and thereby strengthen the case of the client. The expert witness is also able to evaluate the engineering principles of a case of the opposing attorney, especially if the opposing party is presenting an expert witness of their own. An expert like Lewis Barbe can spot the weaknesses in testimony or credentials, and help develop lines of cross-examination. Even in cases where a settlement is worked out before a case comes to trial, an expert witness can play a useful role. A consulting expert like Lewis Barbe might provide an accident reconstruction analysis, which is one of his areas of expertise, that can be used to determine whether there was any negligence involved, and if so, to what extent. This can help the client and the attorney to arrive at a fair settlement. For More Information about Lewis C Barbe visit at http://www.slideshare.net/LewisCBarbe
