TRAVEL TIPS WHEN TO GO
FEES & CHARGES
There isn’t really a bad time to visit the Southern Great Barrier Reef. The area enjoys a subtropical climate year round. The winter months of June to August are mild and dry whereas the summer months are hot and humid. This makes it perfect for spending days on or below the water.
SCHOOL LEAVERS CELEBRATIONS
With plenty of sunshine and warm seas year round, the Whitsundays and the islands of North Queensland are hard to beat. The tropical climate follows two distinct seasons. The dry season, from April to October, features mild to warm daytime temperatures and cooler nights, making it a popular time to visit. The green season is from November to March when it’s hotter with higher humidity.
Each year from mid November to mid December, school leavers from Queensland and other states head to Airlie Beach for School Leavers Celebrations. During this period, bonds and conditions may apply to some properties. Check with your travel agent at time of booking.

EXPERIENCES YOU’LL LOVE
The best part of any journey is the experiences you have along the way, leaving you with memories to relive long after the holiday is over. Queensland’s Islands and Whitsundays have countless amazing things to see and do. Here are five of our favourites to inspire your wanderlust.
Hamilton Island, Whitsundays, Queensland
Whitehaven Beach, Queensland
SAILING
WHITEHAVEN BEACH
If stopping on a deserted beach to see an amazing sunset or dropping anchor to snorkel away from the crowds appeal, consider a cruise or hire a yacht and discover the Whitsunday Islands. Choose a skippered boat, sit back and let your skipper show you the best of the Whitsundays. Or be your own captain and embark on a bareboating adventure. Cruise through the calm waters of Nara Inlet, stop off and relax on the white sands of Chalkies Beach, and snorkel coral reefs at Cateran Bay. With 74 Whitsunday Islands to choose from, your options are endless.
Stretching along the southern side of Whitsunday Island, Whitehaven Beach is consistently rated as one of the best beaches in the world. With crystal clear water and pristine white sand, it’s no wonder this is one of the most photographed beaches. Take a day cruise or skipper yourself and experience the beach in total seclusion. Stroll along the seven kilometre stretch of white silica sands, swim in the warm water and walk to Hill Inlet Lookout to see the contrast of colours. For unforgettable views, take to the skies for a scenic flight over this stunning beach.
Whitsundays, Queensland
GREAT BARRIER REEF Tick the Great Barrier Reef off your bucket list. Snorkel or dive to discover coral reefs, colourful fish and shipwrecks that are now home to a variety of undersea life. Stay on one of the islands right on the reef and snorkel straight from the beach. They offer an abundance of coral gardens to explore and marine life to see including fish, turtles, rays and reef shark. For a once-in-alifetime experience, why not spend a night on the reef under a blanket of stars or take to the air on a scenic flight to see iconic Heart Reef. Heart Reef, Whitsundays, Queensland

ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS
FRASER ISLAND
Nature lovers will enjoy Queensland’s islands. Both Heron and Lady Elliot islands have an abundance of bird and turtle spotting opportunities. See the turtles lay their eggs in the sand between November and February and watch the hatchlings scurry towards the ocean in February and March. See the wild dolphins year round at Tangalooma Island Resort, have breakfast with the koalas at Hamilton Island Wildlife and get up close to the gentle giants of the sea on a whale watching cruise from Fraser Island between August and October.
Discover World Heritage Listed Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island. Walk among towering ancient trees in rainforests growing out of sand and swim in the sapphire blue and emerald green freshwater lakes of McKenzie and Wabby. Follow Wanggoolba Creek as you stroll along the boardwalk at Central Station and float down Eli Creek. Travel by 4WD along the beach highway of 75 Mile Beach to see the Maheno shipwreck and the magnificent coloured sand cliffs, or just simply cast a line straight from the shore and wait for the fish to bite.

SOUTHERN GREAT BARRIER REEF REGION TOURS
BUNDABERG RUM DISTILLERY There is no rum in the world that is quite like Bundaberg Rum. At the Bundaberg Rum Distillery you can get an insight into the history and production of this uniquely Australian rum. DISTILLERY MUSEUM Get to know the history of Bundaberg Rum on this self-paced, self-guided and interactive museum tour. As you step back in time to 1888 learn how nine ingenious locals created Bundaberg Rum as a way to use a massive surplus of Molasses. The museum is housed in a retired Bondstore that previously aged some of Bundaberg’s finest rums. Walk through a forest of 75,000 litre vats and see, touch and smell your way through the rich history of this rum. DISTILLERY EXPERIENCE TOUR Join one of the expert Distillery guides to see how 34 legends make over eight million litres of unmistakable rum. Start by visiting the molasses well, which holds up to five million litres of molasses, fresh from the
neighbouring Millaquin Sugar Mills. Then learn about the fermenting and distilling of the liquids. At the grand Barrel House, discover how the rum is aged and matured before it makes its way into a bottle. After experiencing the sights and smells of the distillery, return to the Bundaberg Rum Tasting Bar, to sample any of the top shelf rums. BLEND YOUR OWN RUM EXPERIENCE TOUR Take part in the world’s first “Blend Your Own Rum” experience. Once the art of blending was solely a pursuit for the Master Distillers but now you have the opportunity to blend your own. On this tour, you’ll spend an hour with two of the expert Rum Guides who will teach you the finer points of tasting rum straight from the barrel. Once you select your favourite drop, learn how to craft your personalised blend. Pour it direct from the barrel, cap and label it and leave with two bottles complete with your name. One to enjoy now and one for another day!

It’s an amazing sight to see turtles venture up the beach to find a safe spot to dig a nest and lay their eggs; and then six to eight week later see baby hatchlings emerge from their nests and scurry down the beach to the ocean to continue the circle of life. November through to March each year is turtle breeding season on the islands and mainland beaches of the Southern Great Barrier Reef. You could be lucky enough to stumble across the turtles while walking along the beach by yourself, but to ensure you witness this miracle of nature, visit Mon Repos Conservation Park in Bargara. Mon Repos supports the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the Eastern Australian mainland. Visitors can get up close and personal with nesting and hatching turtles on nightly Ranger guided tours. This turtle experience is very popular, so be sure to book ahead!

Contact your ATAS travel agent and request a reservation. All verbal quotes provided are an estimate only and subject to change until confirmed in writing.
PRICES & CONDITIONS
This brochure was printed on 17 January 2020. The prices in this brochure are valid for travel from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021, unless otherwise stated, are in Australian dollars and include GST where applicable. All prices are subject to availability, subject to change and can be withdrawn or varied without notice. Price changes may occur by reason of matters outside our control which increase the cost of the Product or Service. Such factors include (without limitation) adverse currency fluctuations, fuel surcharges, taxes and airfare increases. Surcharges and minimum stays may apply due to demand, Christmas and New Year’s Eve, school and public holidays, special events and other circumstances. All prices are the lowest available prices at the time of print and are a guide only. Please check all prices, availability, fees, conditions and information with your travel agent before booking. If we must change any part of your booking for reasons beyond our control, for example, an Accommodation Supplier overbooks accommodation, or if there is an increase in taxes or Supplier charges, we will notify you. If any such changes result in your holiday costing more or otherwise being materially different from that originally booked, you may cancel the booking and we will refund any monies already paid less any charges levied by Suppliers.
PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE
Anything not specifically indicated as being an inclusion.
OMISSIONS & ERRORS
While every effort is made to ensure the accuracy and currency of the information in the brochures, errors or omissions may occur. All errors and omissions identified post the date of publication are notified to our retail partners to advise you. Please check with your agent for all up-to-date corrections, including prices and inclusions.
DEPOSITS & FINAL PAYMENTS Deposit
You will be required to pay a deposit or deposits upon confirmation of your booking. Your travel agent will advise you of how much that will be. All deposits are non-refundable for changes of mind or cancellations by you (subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law).
Final Payment Final payment of your holiday cost is required at least 30 days prior to departure or by sale end date or by the payment deadline specified in individual package conditions, whichever is earlier. Some services, including airfares, may require full payment at the time of booking. For bookings made less than 31 days prior to travel, full payment of holiday cost is required at the time your booking is confirmed. Please ensure payments are made by the due dates. If this does not happen, our system will automatically cancel the booking without notice or liability to you. Only upon payment of the full cost of your holiday do you have a final booking with the Supplier of the relevant good and/or service. In arranging your booking, Viva Holidays is acting as the agent of the Supplier of the relevant Product and at no time do you have a contract with Viva Holidays.
CREDIT & DEBIT CARD SURCHARGES
A fee will apply for payments made by debit and credit cards. Fees may vary depending on card type. Please check this fee with us or your travel agent when booking.
