HIS EXCELLENCY Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buainain, SecretaryGeneral of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Chairman of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Hosting Committee - Doha 2027, stated that Qatar's success in securing the World Cup hosting rights is a continuation of the nation's achievements in various fields. He expressed pride in hosting the championship for the first time in the region.

The head of the hosting committee emphasized that Qatar is well-equipped to deliver a unique edition of the event, thanks to its modern infrastructure, extensive sports facilities, advanced transportation network, and the combination of human expertise and cultural heritage. He pledged to host a memorable tournament and provide the best conditions and atmosphere for guests, teams, and fans attending the region's first edition.

In a statement marking Qatar's hosting of the tournament, the QOC secretary general congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the nation's leadership for this accomplishment, attributing it to collective efforts and guidance from His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee.

Al-Buainain added that Qatar is proud to host the 2027 Basketball World Cup, emphasizing the nation's commitment to sports and its goal of hosting major global sports events as outlined in the

QOC's 2023-2030 vision and strategy.

Al-Buainain pointed out that Qatar's successful bid to host the Basketball World Cup builds upon the nation's achievements in various fields, highlighting the considerable legacy left by the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, including human expertise, modern infrastructure, extensive sports facilities, and an advanced transportation network.

He pledged to utilize this legacy and resources for the success of upcoming sports events, with Doha set to host several prominent competitions such as the World Judo Championships, the 2024 World Aquatics Championships, and the 2030 Asian Games.

The Secretary-General of QOC concluded his statement by committing to ensure the Basketball World Championship contributes to sustainable development in line with the Qatar Olympic Committee's 2023-2030 strategy, which focuses on sports excellence, legacy, sustainability, culture, and institutional excellence. The ultimate goal is to host the Olympic Games in the future.
