M. JACKSON'S EXPAND location Launceston CBD, TAS type urban block renewal directed by Dr Stuart King Jackson’s business incubator is going to expand through the urban block. The newly proposed urban plan is considerative with the urban heritage and architectural history. It aims to shape the block as a place for public, providing the healthy and lively lifestyle. Use of reflective materials including water to introduce the connection of water (river) in corporate with Launceston City Council’s urban development. The revival and expansion of Jackson’s office creates a new circulation in the block, activate the unused negative spaces.

RIVER CONNECTION

SPACE QUALITY One of the most successful shopping precinct in Launceston, The Quadrant Mall is located in the urban block. It was built in late eighteenth and pedestrianised in 1979, the Quadrant with its curved building facades provides an interesting and picturesque Victorian streetscape. Rest of the negative spaces are surrounded by buildings and not facing the main streets. These negative spaces have great opputunity for public use and the existing carpark building acts as the main carpark for the block users. Likewise, it is easy to access via public transportation, cycling or walking. Implementing the Quadrant curved design, the urban plan has make use of the exisiting nodes to create a visually continuous journey, and the new circulation patterns result.

EFFUSION

The sparkling lights, the resplendent dress, the lively and smiling faces, the greetings exchanged; all contribute to a festive air, and all enjoy it without realizing how much the architecture is responsible for this magical effect.Charles Garnier (Architect of Palais Garnier). The ACIPA project has aroused the strong desire of people to perform. Spaces in the building are designed for gathering but yet the dimension of space and distance between users is dedicated to provide the sense of sublime, for everyone to display and show off himself. The journey starts once you stepped on the light stone pavement that glows on the entrance, walking on the slight ramp that elevates and welcoming everyone to begin a ‘show’ of your own; then an architectural adventure begins, continuous from the unsheltered to sheltered. Public users and performers enter the building in a different manner and journey provided. Transformation of scale in space, façade is demonstrated through the way of weaving circulation in building and the façade treatment that inclusive every aspects of site. Students will be able to see how the performance process happens in a real circumstance. Meanwhile, the talent ‘search’ and students’ novelty get to present to the public.
