Urban Playground

THE FLOWING PAVILION

2019 Fall

The project is to design an 9m x 18m installation in front of Doota Mall, which located in Dongdaemun, a busy business and cultural place. The idea is to propose a pavilion for people for stopping and resting. To make it fun, the structure is the design and curved to form a platform for the bench, and napping place.

Overall formation is connected in waffle form, perpendicular panel interlocking each other. The curve form four supported point as the main structure, with four freeform entrances, different of height inside provide a spatial change in walking experience.

COMMUNITY PARENTING CENTER

The project is aiming to design a parent-child center that allows children to find playmates, a place where parents can leave the kids in a safe place, or spending family time together.

The program includes reception space, cafe open for public, parent-child baking classroom which also served as comunity kitchen , multipurpose classroom, multimedia room, children's play area, children reading space, administration office with teacher's rest area, and other public facilities.

To embed compact space in a limited area, the concept of the project striking to create a flexible place for activities, and counterbalance between openness and privacy to provide a safe place.

Children reading room, multipurpose classroom and a baking classroom, together with enclosed part of the triblestory indoor playground.

Kindergarten classroom with a sunken outdoor space, reception area, office and a cafe.

Slope of the existing condition of the walkway benefits the accessibility of the plaza, connecting people to the community club. Indoor part consisting functional space such as rental space, exhibition corridor, and a multimedia room while the semi outdoor space facing the main road provide a vanue for weekend market or activity.

Kindergarten Classroom

The simple and warm interior collocatiom, immersing pleasant mood to the users. Flexible partition enable layout to change based on differeent need. Sliding door can open fully, provide spatial extension from interior to the greenary outside. Adjacent to the sunken steos outdoor, also provide a posobility of holding a small event and performance.

Typology of different partition

By using customized furniture to adjust space partitiom, classroom layout can be transformed to fulfill different needs.

BAKING CLASSROOM | Served as community kitchen, inviting the participation of the neiborhood.

CHILDREN READING ROOM | Chidren reading room immersed with the softern daylight and greenary view from the park, organicform rack layering across the space and forming a staircase guiding litte kids to explore upper part of the room and have their own secret place.

Indoor Playground

Trible-story design and voids on different layer, provide extra heights for the indoor playground, shaping interesting dimensional experience and tolerance various type of facility and adaptive to future change and space transformation.

Located at a corner of a busy street, opposite sport center and surrounded by parking, this project is going to be urban playground on top, main structure hidden in the landscape, frames above enable to fit with deck and boxes for diverse possibility, either for exhibitiom, event or just as a urban playground, provide a stopping spot which is interactive to the neighborhoods and passers-by.

The bottom part is totally opposite with the upper part, a series of art piece display at the center, hanging at the hall. People follow the curve entrance and follow the circulation, having different experience and thoughts along the walkway.

ENTRANCE | The curvature of the roof is a mimic to cave- like structure, bending and forming nature entrance, guiding people to walk through the exhibition hall.

‹ Studio also include simplified resisdential function.

‹ The main stage of the exhibition is the center of the hall. Visitors enter follow the circular walkway, reaching the bottom, meet and interact with the artwork at different elevation and distance.

‹ The bottom of the hall represents a meditation space, and also reflected the thought of the artist. Differ from the noise of the streets, the bottom space create a peaceful and relaxing environment. The reflection of pool symbolizes the mirror of the upper world, reflecting the another side of the inner of people's nature.
