Signal Snowboards 2012

2011.2012

Remember that feeling you had when you started snowboarding? You embraced

this sport with such open arms that you just had to open your own store; had to be part of what molded this industry. This was an opportunity that was about freedom of choice and a path less traveled.

You picked that untracked line over there or you went as fast as you could down

this groomed run. It has all been about choice! That is what drew us all to snowboarding. And that is exactly the foundation on which we’ve built Signal.

We chose our own line, our path and our own cause. No secret code words.

No hidden agenda. Just a brand, a factory and a way of life that we believe is fulfilling. At Signal, we hope to be able to reignite or sustain that enthusiasm and optimism through our passion for manufacturing and life.

We hope that you will join us on this path of progression and will enjoy the new

technologies that we’ve introduced this year. On top of technical advancements that we’ve made, there are also the specialty projects that we’ve continued to pursue within our company such as Signal Coffee and our show, “Every Third Thursday”. To us, all these parts combine to make that perfect run.

PARK GEOMETRY

Thanks to rider and retail feedback you’ve got some new options! From camber to flat, wide waist to narrow—there is a PARK board here for everyone. These boards are a favorite year after year because they have a soft flex, are durable and can handle anything you get yourself into. What you need to know about the Park Series boards: • Built for today’s terrain parks and city streets. Built to take a beating • Magnum ABS sidewalls • Sintered bases on all models • “Park Profile” core, which is thinner on the nose and tail but has a standard thickness between your feet • The alternating grain structure of the Poplar core provides maximum strength and maximum pop • Biaxial glass gives the Park its soft tip to tail flex • Nylon 8210 top material provides a softer torsion flex • Carbon stringers from tip to tail for added pop and strength • • PARK SERIES: camber, regular to wider feet • FLAT PARK: absolutely no camber, flat, regular to wider feet • VITA PARK: camber, narrow to regular feet, light to regular rider • YUSAKU PARK: 152 only, team rider’s specialty top sheet

ROCKER GEOMETRY

For 2012, we’ve given you even more reasons to rock! WIth the newest addition of the Rocker Light, you choose your degree of lift, size and proportion from this line of ROCKERS. What you need to know about the Park Rocker Series boards: • Signal’s own Three-Stage Park Rocker’s unique design: Stage One is continuous contact. This creates a level board through the bindings. It allows you to hold an edge without catching one. Stage One acts as a small board when you stand flat over this section. Stage Two rolls up ten degrees into Stage Three, the ‘flat spot’. Stage Two creates a pivot point when transferring from the level— or flat—area between the bindings and the ‘flat spot’ of Stage Three. Stage Two also acts as a secondary contact point when you are carving • “Standard Profile” Poplar core, which is thicker between the feet and tapers out as it reaches the nose and tail. There is no need for extra tapering as the nose and tail are already in the air because of the Rocker that starts at your feet • Nylon 8210 top for softer torsion flex • Durasurf sintered base • Triaxial glass top and bottom • Carbon stringer tip to tail • Rock on! SIGNAL ROCKER: 3 stage rocker, 10 degrees lift, regular to wide waists ROCKER LIGHT: 3 stage rocker, 5 degrees lift, regular to wide waists VITA ROCKER: 3 stage rocker, 10 degrees lift, regular to narrow waists

This hybrid opens up your mind in the park and powder. Camber between your feet with Rocker on the tip and tail. Ride the Wavelength! “A Signal snowboard will change your life, seriously.”

What you need to know about the Omni Wavelength boards: • All things to all mountain riders! Rocker and camber blended together create Wavelength technology • Camber between your feet • Five degree Rocker from your feet out to the tip and tail • Rocker keeps your nose up in powder while the camber provides edge control while you carve • The transition point provides an additional contact point that engages even before the edge • Less surface area on the snow equals a faster board! • Directional and a twin board. It’s directional in the sense that the nose is longer than the tail. Twin in the sense that the tip and tail widths are identical • Radial sidecut meets at the center of the board • Poplar cores with “Standard Profile” • Biaxial glass top and bottom • Durasurf sintered base material • Matte Nylon 8210 tops • Carbon torsion bars • The 156 OMNI is also available in a special Dave Colorway •

“I love working at Signal. Every single person I have met so far has been nothing but great!!”

“In these days where snowboard brands are run by accountants and multi national conglomerates Signal stands out like a beacon. Its whole existence comes from the passion of snowboarding— from the way the boards ride to the enthusiasm of Dave and the rest of the crew— Signal is all about one thing and that one thing is the love of snowboarding. With so much passion in the brand, communicating the Signal story to customers is super easy. Once they understand what Signal is all about people just want to become part of it.” - Jeremy Sladen, UK Distributor, Snowboard Asylum

Camber: This measurement is taken when your board is on a flat surface. The space between the surface and the mid point of the bow of your board is the camber. The taller the camber, the harder it presses on your sidecut. The camber also assists you in springing off of one edge and moving to the other. Your board’s camber should be proportionate to its sidecut and your weight. Rocker : Rocker is the lifting of the contact points off the snow creating easier edge to edge turns and float in powder. We have all seen Rocker make a strong comeback over the last few years. Originally this technology came from the 80’s to keep your board floating in powder. But now with all the advancements in riding and board building technology Rocker has taken on a whole new purpose. Signal’s Rockers are flat through the bindings and then roll up into a 5 degree or 10 degree rise. The versatility and ease make it a choice that is great for beginners as well as the pros. Wavelength Technology: Signal’s OMNI Wavelength made it’s debut in 2008. This hybrid came from the simple concept of taking our favorite camber board and adding slight rocker to the tip and tail. We call it the “Gateway Board”. For those who love camber and are interested in Rocker, but are not willing to give up the control at speed. For these people Wavelength is the choice! The OMNI Wavelength has camber through the middle of the board with light 5 degree Rocker through the tip and tail. It is a fan favorite!

Tip and Tail Length: This is an important measurement to know for the style of riding you prefer. The longer tip measurement, the more the board is built to float on deeper snow. The more equal the measurements, the more equal riding your board will have.

x x

MEDIUM

CENTERED

Sidecut: This is what makes your turn. How sharp you turn will be determined by how deep the sidecut is. The smaller the radius, the sharper your board will turn. A larger radius will allow your board to ride faster. Some boards have more than one sidecut. When a board has more than one sidecut, the turning is initiated by the first sidecut and followed through by the latter.

Torsion or Torsional Strength: This is how strong your board is from side to side as it twists.

FLEX SOFTER

Effective Edge: This is the edge of your board that you ride on. When your board is flat on the ground and then tipped to the side, the points that touch the ground are the beginning and end of the effective edge. This number is more important to know than your overall length because even though there are many 155 boards, not all share the same effective edge.

x

BIAXIAL/TRIAXIAL

CARBON STRINGERS

NOTES

Overall Length: This measurement is taken from the tip to the tail running along the base including the tip and tail.

x

x

x

x

Waist Width: This number relates directly to the size of your foot. You always want to have your feet centered over the waist of your board as much as possible. Sintered and Extruded Base Material: These terms describe two very different types of bases, as well as the processes that create them. Sintered base material is tighter, denser and harder. It has smaller pores and needs to be maintained often so that wax can reach the pores deeper into the board. Extruded base material is less dense and has larger pores. It requires less maintenance than sintered material and can be repaired much easier. Sublimation and Silkscreening: These are types of printing processes. Even these can affect the flex of your board and how it rides . Sublimated materials are stiffer due to the process used in its construction. With this process inks are cooked right into the material. Silkscreened topsheets are more flexible because the material is less dense. With this process inks are applied in very thin layers to the backside or the frontside of the material. Resin: An often overlooked ingredient of a snowboard, but one of the most important, resin is the glue that holds it all together. When fiberglass is used in a snowboard it is only strong when pulled. But when you are riding your board you are not only pulling but pushing as well. Resin handles all the pushing and compression that you require from your board. It is also important to know that not all resin is created equally. Low quality resin is often used by some companies as a way to cut down costs on many low priced snowboards.

“...SIGNAL Snowboards is a great company/crew to be apart of. Everyone involved is here for the right reasons. Very few brand owners work in their own factory pressing boards & design new constructions with their team. Not to mention the best COFFEE around!! Support the rider owned brands…” –Yours truly, Phil George, SIgnal BC Rep

NOTES

“It is nice to see a company who puts such a personal touch on show boarding in an age of “Make the dollars, not the quality” thinking. I am proud to be involved with a company who does it by hand in California, the right way. All passion, All heart!” - Brett Whitley, Signal Czech Rep

“It’s really hard to find a brand that gives a sh*t about how, why, and where they make their boards, while having fun doing it. If you don’t believe me just search them on YouTube!” - Mark Strang, Toronto Canada Rep

“Signal Snowboard’s business model is everything I love and respect about snowboards and snowboarding. An all American made brand that is owner operated and driven. Lots of heart, soul and passion go into every board built in Huntington Beach, CA by people who actually snowboard. Signal is the real deal. “ -Todd Roberts I ZJ Boarding House, CA - USA

We are Roasting up delicious coffee Mammoth Lakes, California courtesy of Matt Hammer. Matt has been a pro snowboarder for over 13 years and in the coffee industry for 11 years. On any given day, Matt will hole up inside the roasting facility and toast the beans to perfection. Then he’ll step outside onto a chair lift at one of the world’s greatest mountains. Mammoth is not only one of the progression capitols for snowboarding, it also provides the perfect atmosphere for roasting coffee. All of our coffees are grown at an altitude from 5000-8000ft so what could be better than to roast them at that same altitude. Roasting at 8000 feet also produces a great temperature and flame control with in the roaster allowing for a cleaner more precise roast each and every time. We roast in small batches so that we have greater quality control over the finished product. Think about this. Most coffee company’s roast between 300lbs and 600lbs at a time, w hich is all controlled by a computer and very rarely seen by a human before it reaches its buyer in the supermarket. We roast 10lbs at a time. This allows us to control each bean while it’s being roasted. We also hand check each and every bean before it’s bagged. Just one bad bean can damage a whole bag of coffee. If you’re going to use the top 1% of coffee in the world you should do it right. And we do. When you join the Coffee of the Month Club, you get coffee delivered to your door, a Signal Coffee Newsletter and monthly emails keeping you up-to-date with all the folks who make this stuff. Our Coffees: Signal Choice. This is Signal’s Choice—what we’re drinking right now. It’s what Signal employees are drinking this month. Variety in every delivery with notes from the roaster! Espresso. This four-bean blend comes from different regions around the world. You will taste the bold richness and smooth aftertaste in a straight shot, cappuccino or latte. Velvet Hammer. A must have for coffee enthusiasts! The Velvet Hammer throws down a smack, but in a smooth and velvet sort of way. This Guatemalan Quezaltenango is gentle, complex and it’s bright and nutty—just like Matt Hammer. HappiLee. Happilee is Signal’s French Roast. Two of our South American coffees are roasted to produce a full, dark flavor. It’s rich, deep, full-bodied and it makes Dave very happy. Dave Lee + Happy = Happilee Duffinated. More often than not, Chris Dufficy is full of caffeine and that’s why we call this Colombian Supremo Duffinated! Supremo beans are larger than other beans ( and that’s exactly how Chris likes his outerwear to fit, so it’s a perfect match ). Each cup is full-bodied, rich and has a nutty flavor.

Coffee is as much a part of lives as snowboarding. We pursue our passions whole heartedly. It’s all ways about doing what we love.

NOTES

“We love them cause the boards are made by humans not by machines. We like them because they do not have NASA`s technology, but they have a soul.” - Marek Kurzeja, Signal Polish Distributor, Company- Snow 4 Life

“Signal Snowboards are made in their own factory in Huntington Beach. Not many companies nowadays produce their own boards. Also everything is made from riders for riders. If the snwoboarding industry would be run by more companys like Signal Snowboards we all would be better off.” - Alex Krapf from Park & Ride, Germany
