THE SPIN ON FANS
you need them

Introduction
Fans have become a stylish fixture that aids in climate comfort and energy efficiency.
The first electric powered ceiling fans was invented in 1887. Philip H. Diehl, a German-American, invented the first electrically powered ceiling fan by attaching blades to a sewing machine motor and securing it to the ceiling. He was granted a patent for the ceiling fan in 1889.
These now common household fixtures can make occupants feel cooler in the summer months and warmer in the winter months by circulating the air in the room.
Fans are also used outdoors for circulation and insect control.
Using a ceiling fan correctly can make the space they are installed in more energy efficient.

What is CFM and why is it important?
Airflow rating is measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM) per one watt (W) of electrical power while the fan is running at high speed. The higher the CFM, the more energy efficient the fan will be. A very inefficient ceiling fan would have a CFM of about 75, while an efficient model will have a CFM in the 4,000 to 5,000 range, and the best CFM is 6,000 or more.

HVLS vs. Residential Fans
The smaller, high-speed fans can create airflow for a space up to about 200 or 250 square feet (18 to 24 square meters). In contrast, the bigger, low-speed fans can circulate air up to around 25,000 square feet (2,300 square meters).
HVLS fans must hang AT LEAST 10 feet off the ground and perform best when hanging 20 to 30 feet up. HVLS fans demonstrate acceptable performance when hanging as high as 50 feet off the ground but lose effectiveness beyond that

Why is the pitch of a fan blade important?
Blade pitch refers to the angle at which the blade is set in relation to the fan, and it determines how well the blades will rotate. For blades to whip the air enough to get it circulating around the room, optimum pitch is between 12 and 14 degrees. Blades pitched too high meet too much resistance, potentially causing the motor to burn out.

Higher blade pitches usually move more air. However, blade pitch alone does not determine air movement. A fans pitch of the blades and the power of the motor need to complement each other in order to prevent the fan from burning out as it moves less air with more power

AC vs DC Motor?
AC (Alternating Current) and DC (Direct Current) ceiling fans have their advantages and disadvantages.
Fans were first manufactured using AC motors they are more affordable in manufacturing, offer 3 speeds and have been around a long time creating the belief that they are more reliable.
DC ceiling fans are more energy efficient, offer greater speed control, are quitter, have a longer lifespan. They deliver more torque, power and allow 6 speeds.
