Events Guide 2018 Taking care of yourself can be challenging. Study Well is here throughout the year to remind you to treat your body and mind with the respect and appreciation it deserves!
StudyWell Hi, I’m Ahmed, your Vice President Welfare, and as I’ve put this booklet together, you know it’s going to be good! University can be stressful at times, and this can often feel worse during coursework and exams. This is completely normal, but we want to help you manage your stress and ensure you Be Kind to Your Mind (#QMBK2YM). We want to make sure you’re preparing well and that you know about all the fantastic services Queen Mary offers. We want you to achieve your full potential and absolutely smash your academic assessments, but it’s important that you take care of yourself. So, make sure you look out for all the amazing things that the Student’s Union and the University have for you, to ensure that you Study Well and achieve greatness. You can contact me with any concerns you have, and I’m always happy to have a chat. I’ll be adding motivational quotes, so if you’re ever feeling demotivated, make sure you flick through these pages and fully deep it. @WelfareQMSU Ahmed Mahbub QMSU

StudyBreak It’s really important to have a break once in a while. Here’s some ideas of where to spend your study breaks. You can also find out about the nights out, day trips and other things that the Union has to offer on www.qmsu.org/events Brick Lane Market
Theatre
Pop to Brick Lane at the weekend for an around the world food market. There are plenty of stalls in the area selling original art and clothing, and it’s the perfect scene for vintage lovers.
The Students’ Union offer discounted tickets for some of the most popular shows on the West End. Boogie along to a musical for the perfect stress release!
Cinemas
Enjoy an afternoon free from study in Victoria Park, the perfect destination for a picnic. Spend the day playing sports, spotting adorable dogs, or – if you’re feeling daring – hire a pedalo and go out on the lake.
Take time out from reality and head to Mile End Road’s Genesis on Mondays and Wednesdays for discounted tickets. Watching a blockbuster? Use your student discount and head to the BFI Imax; the screen is taller than four double decker buses! If you want something quirkier, look out for rooftop cinema screenings and pillow cinemas.

StudySupport from your Students’ Union As your Students’ Union, we support and represent you in a number of ways, one of which is to provide you with confidential advice and representation on many academic issues. Academic issues
Coursework
Academic issues include, (but are not limited to): • Applications for extenuating circumstances • Requests for a review of an exam board decision • Allegations of plagiarism or an examination offence • Allegations of breach of the Code of Student Discipline • Appeals against the outcome of a disciplinary hearing, either under the examination offences regulations or the Code of Student Discipline • Appeals against de-registration from a module or course • PhD supervision • Fitness to practice issues
Quick rundown of useful studying tips to avoid being caught out: • Word Limits – you might lose marks if you break them • Poor referencing - failure to reference somebody else’s work • Too close paraphrasing - copying someone else’s work and changing a few words • Plagiarism - passing off someone else’s work as if it were your own • Deadlines - If you are unable to submit work by the deadline due to unforeseen circumstances, you will need to submit an extenuating circumstances form and any documentary evidence (e.g. medical certificate) Regulations may vary depending on your course. Please contact your school for more information or check your programme handbook.
