Editor’s note Change. Just one syllable, yet it makes a lot of us uncomfortable. It brings in the unknown. Deliberately making changes is frightening and full of the possibility of failure. But despite all that, we make changes in our lives all the time. As individuals, we make changes to adapt, to allow our dreams to come into focus, to make ourselves better human beings. As a company, we change for the better to grow stronger, bolder and brighter. Life doesn’t get better by chance, it gets better by change. But when you change, you must let the old go. At aspIRe, we wanted to look better, feel younger and just be cool. So, we turned everything around, created a new editorial team, got rid of old designs and dove head first into the new. It frightened us a whole lot; would we meet deadlines? Would this new team blend? Would we even like the end product after this rebranding exercise? (Dramatic music). Publishing this issue, we’ve learnt that change is inevitable and when taking the leap we have to have faith and work hard and everything will fall into place. So we hope you, our precious readers, also learn to change for the better and we hope you enjoy reading! In service, Christine Pereira

your life, your time! In your career as a network marketing professional, I’m sure you also have come to that stage where you feel that the challenge is overwhelming. I remember this happening to me 16 years ago, when we started QNET. We were sitting around Dato’ Sri’s kitchen table, at the time he was still living in a government housing project in Manila, and he was sharing his vision and plans for QNET and where he saw us fit into the grand scheme of things. I was terrified! I remember thinking it’s too crazy, too big, too impossible, there is no way we can do this! But I had a choice. I could put my heart and soul into it and if I failed, at least I could walk away with my head held high knowing I did my best or, I could turn around and leave right then and never have to worry about QNET or network marketing again. Looking back on that defining moment, I can’t even begin to describe how glad I am that I made the choice I did. I accepted Dato’ Sri’s invitation for a one-way ticket on the train ride of a lifetime and look where we are today! It was a massive opportunity that more than fulfilled my obligation to myself and my family. So when you find yourself doubting your strength and capabilities, remember that nothing is impossible. The choice is always yours, regardless of your limitations. Push yourself far enough to realise your dreams. The two things we dreamers have that no one can take away are our determination and resilience. Remember, this is your time, this is your moment. begins As I write this, the world cup has ended and Germany stands victorious. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not just revelling in Germany’s success (maybe a little), but what this world championship taught me is that football is a team sport, in every sense of the word. One player’s performance is simply not enough for the team to achieve, no matter how unbelievably talented he is. It’s the team and the coming together of many different talents that makes the team win a championship. So, this has taught me that no matter what your goal – to become world champions or to max-out in your business – everything is achievable when the team comes together. My Beloved Max-Out Kings & Queens! The past few weeks have been mind-blowing with a capital M. With the amazing V-Malaysia 2014 having concluded, I am thrilled to say it was in fact the most terrific, explosive, groundbreaking event in the history of network marketing! And that was just a precursor for an array of thrilling milestones that are still to come our way. One of the things I have been most excited about post-V-Con is the amazing Start Living Promo by QNET! By the time you read this, the promo would have long been over but I still remember sitting with Mr JR Mayer and his team for hours on end, putting together the mechanics and we all agreed that it was definitely one of the greatest incentive promos we have put together. Marussia Wet and Wild in Budapest Following a series of challenging races, the QNET sponsored the Marussia F1 Team takes to the race track in Budapest ahead of a one-month break marking the middle of the 2014 Formula 1TM season.

During the race, QNET encounters a massive downpour that contributes to smash between Pastor Maldonado and Marussia’s Jules Bianchi. Nonetheless, both drivers finish the race and the Marussia F1 Team retains 9th position in the Constructors’ Championship going into the break.

The gently sloping coarse sand beach boasts a gorgeous line of whitewashed restaurants in a sheltered cove with shallow waters, perfect for families, couples and honeymooners. Discover Dalyan This lovely spot on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast is packed with must-sees and has attracted celebrities like Robbie Williams, Sting and Dustin Hoffman. The star turns are the mud pools along the Dalyan River. Board a boat and sail to the therapeutic pools, which have been used for healing since the Hellenistic times. Smother yourself in the warm, sulphur-rich mud and rinse off in the thermal springs. The whole process is said to take ten years off you! Shop till You Drop Although Bitez does not have high-end boutiques or shopping malls, you will find a decent helping of shops in the town centre, near the mosque. Look out for quirky souvenirs, leather bags and purses. For a bit more variety, head to the shops and stalls in Bodrum.

Crossroads Coast Bitez is almost a suburb of Bodrum town but it has a very different feel from its boisterous neighbour. Traditional houses dotting the coastline with tasteful modern hotels and wooden rowing boats bobbing in the bay give away the town’s fishing village roots. There’s a laid-back vibe with most people visiting to laze on the sandy beach. A Beautiful Escapade Bitez beach curves around the bay in a kilometre-long crescent of sand and is more sheltered than some spots on the Aegean. There are no charges for deckchairs or parasols and if you get there early enough, you might even find a free hammock to kick back in, chill and get a nice tan! Sun Splash Cruise This trip combines family fun with a beach-hopping cruise. Kick back on deck and feel the stress slip away. Enjoy the cooling sea breeze as the sun gently bronzes your body. We think of air pollution as being outdoors, but according to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the air in your home or office could be five times more polluted than the air outside. An interview with VC Kavita Tell us how you came to join QNET. For eight years, I worked with some of the biggest names in India, but I was never comfortable working for someone else. Eventually, I started an HR firm where I did everything myself, since I couldn’t afford to hire. My life revolved around my company – I couldn’t fall ill or go on vacation – but somehow, all the profits seemed to appear only on paper and never in the bank! Then, QNET came into my life. How many years did it take before you felt you achieved success with QNET? For the first 18 months, I did not make a single cheque. This fuelled me to step up my game. When I got my first cheque, the wait was totally worth it!


When you meet people and talk to them about being part of a million dollar project, you need to look like a million dollars yourself. What were the challenges you faced? Did you ever feel like giving up? My biggest challenge was coming out of my shell. I am inherently shy and this has often been perceived as arrogance. While networking, I had to make the effort to change. I am not a quitter, never was and never will be. Each challenge has only made me stronger. Is it difficult being a woman in this business? Why would it be? I think men find it far more difficult because women usually have all the traits to be successful in network marketing. Success doesn’t see gender, it comes to those who shed blood and sweat to achieve their dreams. One of the challenges women in this business face is lack of family support. What’s your advice? I think families oppose anything they aren’t comfortable with, simply because they don’t understand. They need to see your determination and passion. If you are determined and your family is able to see it,

they will support you. Another key aspect is communication. We talk about our dreams with the whole world, but forget to do so with our own families! What keeps you motivated? Money and success. I like to have a lot of both! For every challenge, I find myself working with double the energy to overcome it. Without some bumps in the road, this journey would have been very boring. You and your husband are a team. How much of your success do you attribute to him? I owe all my success to him. He is the reason I’m here today. He introduced me to QNET and has been with me through all the ups and downs. In QNET, he is my upline, not my husband. One mistake I see many couples make is confusing this relationship, preventing them from making it big. What have you discovered about yourself with QNET? I found out that I’m very competitive. What are the misconceptions about RSP and how do you counter them? The belief that ‘RSP represents forced sales’. People don’t understand that RSP is all about flexibility. Educating the network is the only way to counter this false belief and show how one can benefit from some great repeat products as well. How do you encourage your network to purchase RSP products? First, I had to change my team’s mindset towards RSP because we were all so focussed on one-time sales. Now, I keep reminding them of the benefits of repeat sales. QNET has repeat products that we can sell on a regular basis and even use ourselves. For example, everyone uses personal care products, so I encourage my team to buy QNET’s products instead of other brands. Any words of wisdom for IRs wanting to improve their RSP sales? Children are our future and we, at QNET, have always recognised the importance of investing in their lives and dreams. To mark an important step in our journey of ‘touching a billion hearts’ in the next few years, QNET and RYTHM Foundation have made a strong commitment to focus on the area of special education. QNET signed a friendship agreement in 2013 with Dubai-based Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre, to support them in a variety of ways over the coming years. Through this partnership, QNET brought eight ‘Rashid Stars’, a troupe of young performers from the Rashid Centre, to Malaysia on a cultural exchange programme.


The children interacted with their counterparts at QNET’s special needs school in Kuala Lumpur called Taarana, established by Vijayaratnam Foundation. QNET also discovered some amazing talent during a visit to the Rashid Centre in Dubai. After seeing the potential these children had in designing and manufacturing local community products such as the abaya, perfumes and the traditional fragrance Oud, we decided to provide them with the best possible avenue to showcase these skills – our online direct selling platform! The exclusive range of Maryoom abayas and the fragrances are now available in the QNET UAE eStore. Part of the proceeds from the sale of these items are being channeled to the Centre and in the long-run, this partnership will help the Centre raise funds for itself, while honing the talents and capabilities of its students who are now making a name for themselves globally. In the coming months, QNET and RYTHM Foundation will be working on more initiatives to help promote local community products, especially those that will directly support and benefit children with special needs. Maverick: The Success Story Behind the World’s Most Unusual Workplace – Ricardo Semler Ricardo Semler’s Maverick has been benchmarked as one of the turning points in management and corporate literature. What attracted me to this book more than 15 years ago is the completely novel way in which Ricardo Semler, the scion of an ageing Brazilian-family manufacturing corporation, approaches challenges and the even more novel way in which he devises solutions. Maverick was a turning point in understanding the typical employer-employee relationship. Whether you manage relationships in the corporate or networking arena, sensitivity to human nature itself is of tremendous value. He demonstrates, through the evolution of his company, Semco, that a completely new democratic way of working is possible. He raised each of his thousand odd employees at the time to think like employers, a unique proposition indeed. He says in the book, “Before I could reorganise Semco, I had to organise myself… I would attack my problem directly and that problem was not simply the management of a business, but something even more fundamental; the management of time.” If you think about it, he behaves exactly like a networker. One of the most difficult tasks I face with many networkers is to

get them to shake off the baggage of the employeremployee psyche that they bring into the business. From day one, I have had to refer to my downlines as partners and instil in them what Semler has so effectively done with his employees – create a sense of ownership of the business that we both do together. In one of his chapters, Semler describes a programme he created where there is an individual whose only job is to move around every department, no bosses and no set responsibilities. His purpose is to interfere with everyone from senior management to factory floor workers, to make them rethink the way they work. Hire Sherpas – Sir Edmund Hillary scaled the Everest, but it was Sherpa Tenzing, a young sturdy Nepalese guide familiar with the rough terrains, and indispensable for his local knowledge, who helped him get there! Where are your Sherpas? 4. Disarm acrimony with wit – Learn to see the humour or irony in any situation, even if it involves you, and use that to your advantage. You can neutralise a tense situation or a particularly negative opponent with a little wit and self-deprecating humour. 5. Find issues that resonate – Identify issues that are of interest to the person you are talking to and stick to them. Draw parallels from your own experience when necessary or use that to your advantage to strike a chord. You may not aim to become president, but if you are looking to bring about a change in yourself for the better, understanding and applying these five simple lessons from JFK will go a long the way.

Many of us are like the man in this story. We take our health for granted and indulge in activities that take a toll on our well-being. When we get sick, we spend on medicine and therapy and when we get well, we do the very same things that make us sick over and over again – eating unhealthy food, not getting enough sleep, drinking alcohol, smoking and so on. We hammer our body with poison and subject it to continuous abuse. How do you take care of your car? You make sure the engine is in top shape, put premium grade engine oil additives in it, and get it tuned up and washed regularly. Now think of your body as your car. Shouldn’t you be taking care of it the same way you take care of your car,

Tell us a little about you before QNET… Before QNET, I was a football player for Al Ahli Sporting Club – the most popular Egyptian sporting club. I also had a good stint playing for the Under-21 National Youth Team. I have a degree in Engineering from Cairo University, however, I never worked as an engineer. What did you want to be when you were a kid? All I ever wanted was to become a world-famous football player. What’s your QNET story? It all started when a friend of mine invited me to a business opportunity presentation. At that time, I was transferred to play football for another team and didn’t exactly have the time or the inclination to pursue business. Shortly after, a trusted female friend of mine joined QNET and she charmed me into giving the business a try. The rest, as they say, is history. What are your dreams and plans for the future? I have come a long way since the days I thought football was my whole life. My plans have taken a different route since

QNET. Today, my main goal is to make Egypt the number one market for QNET. I want all my partners to achieve their dreams, just as I achieved many of mine. I want to become a V Partner one day and maybe play football again on the side. We hear you’re a ladies man, care to share any crazy episodes while in QNET? Not to sound cocky or anything, but I do get my fair share of crazy calls, emails, WhatsApp texts from female IRs and prospects, which I find flattering but very funny. I once got a call from a girl I never met, who said she was in trouble and that I was the only one who could help her. She insisted that her situation was terrible and that something bad could happen if I didn’t go see her. It turned out, it was all pretend and she just wanted to meet me. Some girls still call me saying they have a prospect and that I am the only one who can show the plan. But once I get there, there’s no prospect, they just wanted to see me. Crazy, isn’t it? What do you look for in a woman? She’s gotta be smart, honest and adventurous. I don’t find boring

people attractive. A woman has to be independent and fully capable of looking after herself. She should also be kind to other people. What was the best date you’ve had so far? Euro Disney in Paris, France. I’m adventurous, so I absolutely love crazy date ideas like this. Which QNET product would you buy for a girl you like? I think the Bernhard H. The partnership between QNET and the Marussia F1TM Team represents a momentous evolution of QNET’s support of worldwide sports, particularly motorsports. The shifting in gear from various racing series to Formula 1TM, with the most dynamic and vibrant team on the track – the Marussia F1 Team – ensured QNET’s continued legacy of championing the world of motorsports.

Team into 9th position in the constructors championship. The 2014 F1TM season is in full swing

and fans have been treated to some head-spinning action, both on and off the track over the racing weekends since March. As we write this, the Marussia F1 Team is still 9th in the constructor’s standings. From its 2010 debut as the underdog, the Team has had a tough time to move up the grid compared to the more established and well-respected drivers, however have matured and grown throughout the seasons.

The same can be said for the journey of QNET and the Marussia F1 Team, which started off in 2010. For QNET, which has been involved with motorsports through its sponsorship of teams in the Formula BMW, Formula V6 and the GP2 Asia series from 2004 to 2009, the move to the Formula 1TM category was a natural progression, ensuring exposure for the brand on a global stage, in one of the most prestigious sporting arenas. from boys to MEN GROWING UP WITH A GLOBAL NETWORK OF CUSTOMERS By Vidya Madhavan

We caught up with some charismatic young men at the heart of QNET’s Global Support Centre. They shared with us inspiring stories of chasing dreams, taking on responsibilities and finding a home away from home.

MURTADA SABR THE COOL CUCUMBER

Most Java programmers love hiding behind computer screens. But not Murtada Sabr. He left Sudan for Malaysia to pursue a Masters in Management Information System. His thesis in Customer Relationship Management prepared him for a life-changing experience. Today, at QNET’s GSC, he serves the company’s Independent Representatives from East Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. On his job: “When I joined QNET in 2010, I got to personally interact with our IRs. I’d get WhatsApp texts from them at odd hours but I didn’t mind. When you’re close to your customers you feel their need and each day I want to find more solutions for them. The feeling, when someone thanks you with a genuine compliment, is priceless.” On his team: “I’ve never seen teamwork like this before. There’s genuine care and unity. They’ve become my family and I’ve learnt so much from them. Since I joined QNET, I’ve never felt homesick. I plan to set new goals each year and grow with the company. This is my retirement home.”

TONY MARZIEV THE RUSSIAN STAR

Tony Marziev was still a student when he joined GSC as a part-time Russian translator. QNET saw beyond his language skills; they saw a young, passionate leader who was waiting for responsibility and made him a rare promise – a position upon graduation! In 2010, he was QNET’s first representative for Central Asia and was required to work closely with IRs, travel extensively to meet with leaders and provide them with on-ground training for a successful business. On his job: “When IRs come to me, it’s because they have no other place to go. If I can help them solve even five out of 10 problems, I will be happy. If they aren’t satisfied, neither am I. Like them, without QNET, I could not have started living and that’s what drives me. I need to make a difference.” On his team: “I love QNET because they trusted in me right from the start. I don’t know many companies that would offer you a job even before you graduate! QNET really recognises you for what you do. Here, I feel secure. We are like family.”

MOSTAFA RAAD THE SMOOTH OPERATOR

This young Iraqi can charm you off your feet! Mostafa Raad has been with GSC since 2011, caring for IRs from Egypt, one of our key markets. His dynamic personality and determination led to an evolution of his role; he has provided customer support through various platforms, including social media and now manages his own team. On his job: “When I joined QNET, I had a bad temper. Here I learnt patience, I learnt its importance and how to build people’s trust in me. To build trust, you need to serve from the heart and take full responsibility for everything.” On his team: “Working with a multicultural team has helped me respect others and understand our diverse markets even better. We are one big happy family. I couldn’t have come this far without my managers who care and are sincere about rewarding hard work. They encourage us to work hard and play hard. Our IRs are encouraged to do the same – work hard and start living!”
