Our Times Building A Winning Culture Donna Imson Executive Chairperson QuestNet

ave you ever observed an ant colony? From afar, every ant seems to be moving in the same orderly direction. Upon closer inspection, it becomes obvious that each ant is busily executing the actions necessary to accomplish its own agenda — yet at the same time, each ant’s actions serve to meet the needs and requirements of the colony. This is what culture looks like: a group of individuals acting as one. A culture is individual, yet collective; personal, yet united by purpose and passion. In network marketing, fostering and nurturing a culture is the foundation of a successful team. However, this doesn’t mean that culture is instantly created when you form a team. Cultures do not simply exist. Cultures must be created. In our network, we recognise the inherent value of people and relationships. This has not only helped to build our culture, but has ensured its sincerity, its longevity, and its viability.

Here at QuestNet, the building blocks of our culture are values. Creating our culture was synonymous with the creation of shared values; strong, clear values that are not imposed, but that have become imbedded intrinsically throughout our network. When we began 11 years ago, it was with a handful of leaders who came together as one to make a collective difference in the world. To do so, we realised we needed to be the change that we wanted to see in the world. We clearly identified the values that we all shared. These were, and still are, service, truth, and to Raise Yourself To Help Mankind. We also promote a ‘never-give-up, never-say-die’ attitude. Each of you have willingly adopted these values. And for that, I thank you. Service is one hallmark of our culture. At our conventions, our top achievers would rather open doors for the participants than have the doors opened for them. They would rather be part of the InService team that tirelessly works 24-hour days to ensure our events exceed everyone’s expectations than sit in the VIP area. Our leaders take more pride in wearing the InService uniform than a designer suit! They are the embodiment of our InService culture and inspire upcoming leaders, who trip over themselves for the opportunity to serve. This is just one example of how shared values grow into a strong culture. By truly adopting and embracing the values of the culture as his or her own, every team member naturally contributes to the strengthening and propagation of the culture. This process of reciprocity is what creates a winning culture that changes lives and builds strong, lasting relationships. Through the values of service, truth, RYTHM, and by having a ‘never-say-die’ attitude, we have been able to establish a culture that changes lives and builds strong, lasting relationships. We have been able to make meaningful contributions to society through establishing a charitable foundation. We have passionate, diverse leaders who are united and thriving in the environment we’ve established. We have built a highly successful organisation of several million distributors and customers, and we’ve witnessed millions of dollars of commissions earned. And all this has been possible because 11 years ago, we created and built our culture based on shared values… and we’ve never looked back. Thank you for being a part of this journey and for keeping our culture strong.

et up, all of you, and give yourself a standing ovation. You deserve it. The past 12 months have resulted in a record-breaking year for QuestNet and it is thanks to you, our amazing network of IRs who are out there everyday, building your networks and solidly spreading the QuestNet brand. As Managing Director of QuestNet, I am proud beyond words that in an industry that affords so much to those involved, our network is at the forefront of professional and industry standards and as a company, we are stepping closer and closer to becoming a global network marketing juggernaut. Already, the QuestNet and The V family have cemented its position as a powerhouse in Asia and the Middle East within the industry, a fact evidenced by recent membership acceptances to two of Asia’s reputable governing bodies for direct sellers and network marketers. In just the past month and after stringent application processes whereby everything from products to the compensation plans were subjected to close inspection, QuestNet was granted membership to both the Direct Selling Association of Singapore (DSAS) and the Malaysian Direct Distribution Association (MDDA). The significance of these memberships is tantamount to much more than credibility. What we must remember is that an industry without regulation is one that is prone to exploitation from outside influences, while an industry that does not recognise the importance of self-monitoring leaves itself open to damage from within. In an industry so strongly based on relationships such as in the case of the network marketing industry, it is this notion of keeping an eye on each other and ourselves that separates the leading direct selling companies from the problem-plagued companies. The ultimate judgement of whether a company is of industry standard or not is made by looking at the behaviour of its network. It is with pride but not surprise that I can say that the QuestNet and The V family has lived up to the scrutiny of such judgement. And this is only the beginning. We are continuing to move forward with membership applications to industry bodies in the various countries we operate, and I look forward once again to being able to express my pride as QuestNet continues to be welcomed into such associations.

These memberships are a statement of professional compliance and are worn like badges of honour. You, as a QuestNet IR, can be proud and confident of your achievement that is inherent in these memberships. As the year draws to a close, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you all the very best for the year that lays ahead. 2009 has been a mega year and looking at what QuestNet and The V have planned for the coming 12 months, I’m excited to say that the momentum will continue. There will be some important changes ahead, plenty of new products are being developed for you as we speak, there are more sports sponsorships and industry events coming up, more exciting incentives and promos, and more ways than ever for you to boost your business with QuestNet. I personally look forward to sharing the year ahead with you. Yours in MLM — Make Life Meaningful.

n Nigeria, there is a journalist who goes by the name of Clara Nwachukwu. For a long time, she dreamed of writing about pressing global issues; but because she was a woman, she was confined to the Women’s Desk, writing about home affairs and entertainment. But all that changed when one day, Clara decided to walk on the wild side. At a press briefing organised by the National Petroleum Corporation, Clara decided that she had had enough of being ignored in a room full of male journalists. As the speaker scanned the room for the next journalist who will be allowed to ask questions, Clara stood up and screamed, “A lady! A lady!”, much to the astonishment of everyone in the room. The speaker had no choice but to entertain Clara’s questions, and her ensuing story made headlines all over the country. From that moment on, Clara Nwachukwu became known as the ‘Iron Lady’ of Nigerian journalism, and she was never again looked down upon by her peers.

In our daily lives as network marketing entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves in a similar situation to Clara. Just as she was judged and discriminated by her colleagues, we too are often misunderstood, widely criticised and unfairly misjudged by those who do not have a clear and unbiased understanding of our business. The thought of just giving up tends to cross our minds. But like Clara, we must not give up. Instead, we must believe in ourselves and search long and hard for that one brief moment when opportunity dares us to make our move. And when that moment comes, we must act swiftly and boldly – because what we do in that instant can change our lives forever. This, my dear brothers and sisters in The V family, is what separates those who fade into history from those who make history. I assure you that each and every one of the great V-Ambassadors, whom you look up to, at some point in their career have encountered such a moment – and they seized the day! As we now prepare to welcome a new year of promising possibilities, I enjoin you all to keep the story of the Iron Lady in your mind. For sure, the year ahead will bring many daunting challenges. But also, just maybe, this year will also bring your Clara Nwachukwu moment, when the difference between success and failure will depend on how quickly you will act, how bold you will be, and how badly you want to fulfil your dreams. Will this be the year when you join the ranks of the most successful leaders in The V? The answer, my dear friends, is entirely in your hands. Carpe diem!

Doing The Business

Professionally The Integrity Of The Lines Of Sponsorship By Gerald Nehra

W

hen we say ‘Lines of Sponsorship’, what exactly do we mean? And why is it so important to respect their integrity? To explore this concept, we begin with basic definitions: A direct selling company is a company selling products and services through independent contractors. The company offers its independent contractors a financial incentive – bring the company business through the sale of products, and get paid in some way for doing so. The name usually ascribed to the document or web page that makes the offer is the ‘compensation plan’. A direct selling company becomes a multilevel direct selling company when it offers its independent contractors a second, optional way to make money. The second offer of compensation is made available IF the independent contractor will become the ‘new independent contractor finder’. A direct payment for finding a new independent contractor is illegal in many parts of the world (sometimes referred to as a headhunting fee), so an indirect incentive is required. That incentive goes like this, written in the first person for clarity: “I, the Company, promise that if you, the independent contractor, will be my ‘new independent contractor finder’, I will keep track of that activity in my computer (the activity is usually called ‘sponsoring’ or ‘recruiting’), and when the new independent contractor generates business volume, and every time he or she generates business volume, I will compensate you – because you found that new person – per a published compensation plan. I further will compensate you, if the person you found finds

another person who generates business volume, and so on. To determine how many levels down business volume activity can occur that will trigger compensation for you, just read the published compensation plan.” The above company promise is the incentive (legally required in many parts of the world) that causes the company’s independent contractors to engage in sponsoring activity. Once the company accurately records in its computer who sponsored who, that linkage can never be changed, without the promise being broken. The act of ‘sponsoring’ or ‘recruiting’ a person into an independent contractor position with a company that offers a multilevel form of compensation is the single most regulated act in direct selling. It is the act that can be labeled ‘pyramidal’, if the required legalities are not met. The legal incentive appears above, and any variation or manipulation of the incentive creates high legal risk. Every plan I have seen, designed, or legally reviewed prohibits sponsorship changes. The few – and rare – exceptions require written approval from everyone whose compensation could be affected. This principle is known as ‘the integrity of the lines of sponsorship’. It is the driving principle of the direct selling industry using a multilevel form of compensation, and the principle must be zealously guarded. QuestNet has always followed this principle. In addition to making good business sense, the principle is one of the legal and ethical foundations of direct selling.

Winning Perseverance AVP Willie Martinez Now In Total Control Of His Life By Srisumeth Rittipairoj

B

ack in Dubai in the year 2000, AVP Willie Martinez worked as a Regional Engineer at one of the world’s leading consumer goods companies, Unilever. His job was secure with good benefits; however he needed more income to assure his family’s future. “My kids were growing up. I needed more money to afford them a good education. At that time, I was totally broke. I just bought a new house and had to pay a bank loan. And I also maxed out all my credit cards. I started looking for another channel or a part-time job to gain extra income. Then I saw the opportunity from QuestNet. I didn’t have a second thought. I just explored what to do with this business and I realised it was a business I could excel in to meet my needs.”

Begin with a dream Although his journey started with a strong intention, his life was not that easy. Before achieving his goal and becoming one of QuestNet’s top achievers, AVP Willie had to overcome many challenges. “When I decided to resign from my job at Unilever, I encountered many criticisms by my peers regarding this pivotal career move. I had to sacrifice my time to this business because I wanted to do this business and be successful.

It is my outlook and my family’s future. As a result, I lost lots of friends because I had no time to hang out with them. I missed my son’s birthday party and had an argument with my wife since I had to have meetings with my Downlines.” In spite of facing obstacles, AVP Willie still had enough faith in this business to take the leap. Eight years later, he doesn’t have the slightest bit of regret. Gone are the days when he had to work millions of miles away from home. No longer is he a slave to the word ‘schedule’. And he didn't have to wait until he was 60 years old before being able to go on a ‘permanent vacation’. “I have learned many things from QuestNet, not only from a business point of view. I learned how to value people around myself starting from my family, my Uplines, my Downlines, and even strangers I just met. Before I decided to work full-time with QuestNet, I asked the directors many questions about my future with this company. I wanted to know what was happening next or if I would have a good future. They said this is not only a business in Dubai, but a mission to create networks all across the globe. It is a long-term business and we have to take on this business very seriously. Then, I decided to join them to build the success together. All the way until where I am now, I still see their tremendous support to all of us and how they care for us like family. Unlike other companies in the same business, everyone who works here all help each other to achieve our goals together.”

A taste of success Nowadays, AVP Willie is based in Canada, from where he runs his continually growing network that already stretches from the Middle East to North America. He regularly checks in on his network leaders on the field to see how the wisdom of his experience can be of help. But most of the time, AVP Willie chooses to bask in the company of the people he holds dearest – his family. After dedicating so much time and effort to building his QuestNet business, he is now able to visit his relatives in the Philippines as often as he pleases. Being a nature lover at heart, AVP Willie frequently treks to serene places like the mountains near his ancestral home in Tarlac, to commune with his soul and reflect on his life. But most importantly, his

success has now enabled him to personally fund the education of some students living in his hometown. More than financial security, his career with QuestNet has given AVP Willie the liberty to choose for himself by knowing what is important to him. At age 52, he has achieved a lot of things he never thought he could. And yet, he still plans to carry on with his dreams of expanding his network by getting his team more involved in the business, in order for them to grow and succeed the way he did. “When I first joined QuestNet, I saw the announcement about the QuestNet Top Earners. At that time, I told myself and made a decision that one day, I have to be one of them — I will be on stage and introduced as a top earner of the world. This was one of my missions that I had to accomplish... and I have done it now.”

Believe in what you do “I always tell anyone who thinks that they don’t have the potential to be like me, that they just have to believe and trust in themselves. I know it is difficult, but they can do it. When I started this business, I didn’t believe that I would come far as I have. But it has happened because of my strong conviction. It is about believing. If you think you can do it, you will achieve it.” With determination and dedication, AVP Willie's hard work has finally paid off. “My perseverance has led to success. Having cash flow as well as time freedom is the greatest stress buster and the ultimate dream for everyone. In spite of the privilege to afford the best things for my family, I am also free to live life and pursue those things I truly value.”

Most of the time, AVP Willie Martinez chooses to spend time with his family.

Besides joining his family on vacations, AVP Willie always has time for himself to enjoy his favourite activities.

how it would. After joining the business, I attended numerous trainings and events. By doing so, I started to feel that my hidden potential was unleashed.

Aamir J Khan, Oman

After joining QuestNet, Aamir J Khan can turn his dreams into reality.

Turning Your Dreams into Reality “I have been with QuestNet for almost two years now. Before joining, my life was frustrating. I was on the verge of quitting my current job and looking for a brighter option. “Fortunately, the opportunity knocked one day when I drove to Dubai. I was introduced to QuestNet by my friend. At that time I had no idea about this business at all. When my friend presented me the business concept, which was very encouraging and motivating, I was drawn into a dream world and later signed up. My friend convinced me that QuestNet would CHANGE my life and I was really curious to find out

“The Amezcua Bio Disc also brought a big change in my life. I drive to Dubai every Thursday and drive back to Muscat on Friday night. I arrive at Muscat around 3-4 AM and go to the office at 10 AM. I feel stronger, both physically and emotionally. My perspectives and visions have been changed. I used to be a daydreamer, but now I can turn my dreams into reality. I feel confident that I can do a lot of things on my own without depending on a normal salary. “2 December 2010 is the date my contract with my company ends and that will be the day I set myself free from this dependence on a pay cheque and shall take the QuestNet business full time. That is my commitment. I realise that my potential is beyond a salary. I have a lot of responsibilities as a man to contribute to my family, relatives and friends, as well as to society. Sreekanth Vunnava, India

Sreekanth Vunnava dreams of being one of QuestNet’s top earners and provide his family a life of luxury.

Great Expectations “As a middle-class family, we have to struggle against the financial crisis. My parents worked very hard to afford me and my elder sister a good education. We are the ONLY hope for them to help raise the status of our family. In 2006, I got a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology with good academic records. My sister also held a Master’s Degree in the same field. I am really thankful for what they have done for us. “My great expectation is to provide my parents with a car and a house. However, I felt completely hopeless, as I could not find a job for 15 months after graduation. I was really stressed. There was not a day that I could sleep well. “Then QuestNet came into my life. I was introduced to this wonderful business opportunity by my friend Maheedhar, who called me up one day. I learned about the business concept and at that time, I wondered how I could sign up for this business as my parents would definitely not allow me to do it. With great assistance from my friend, they finally accepted.

23

“Once on board, I was very excited to see many IRs become the world’s top earners. Of course, I would like to be one of them. QuestNet offers me not only a very good business opportunity, but also a combination of relationships, fun, personal development, team building, unity and much more. QuestNet dramatically changed my life as well as my friends’ lives. “I entered into this business on 12 October 2007. Within three months, I achieved a team size of over 150 and gained a good commission cheque. Now I am very much confident that I could fulfil all of my dreams in the near future. “So far I have had good team members and gotten the fullest support from them. I have also got good assistance from my Uplines Ravindra, Sameer, and Naveen, as well as from my Downlines Maheedhar, Sandeep, Ravikanth, Srikanth, Kiran, Sagar, and other team members. We enjoy doing this business so much. My second phase of life has started. “Here we work as a team. We share our problems and happiness. I am now much more confident and I finally got a full-time job. The credit goes to QuestNet – a booster of my confidence! “I am very much thankful to QuestNet for providing this wonderful business concept. I am also inspired by Dato’ Vijay Eswaran’s belief that each and every individual can raise their financial background and improve their national economy.”

The Incredible Power of the Amezcua Products

Kshitij Hardas, India Kshitij Hardas notices his greater improvement in health and well-being after using the Amezcua Bio Disc and Chi Pendant.

“After joining this business, I have seen the new opportunity for me and my children. Now I can afford good college for my children. With QuestNet, I do not have to worry about their future anymore! QuestNet fulfils all of my dreams. I feel that I am one of the happiest people in the world!” Maral, Turkmenistan

“I was introduced to this unbelievable business opportunity by one of my cousins. After listening to its concept, I promptly signed up in two minutes. My first purchase was the Amezcua Bio Disc. After using it for a few days, I noticed a greater improvement in my health. It can truly make a difference in your life and this can be sensed by those who have experienced the product itself. By drinking water treated with the Bio Disc, I feel invigorated and energised. The Amezcua Chi Pendant is also another incredible product that helps improve my imaginative level. How To Get Smarter, Richer And Better-Looking With Twitter By Dan Hollings

N

etworking Times is a bi-monthly educational journal focussed on personal growth and professional development. It is available on the newsstands in North America (in major bookstore chains) and online to subscribers worldwide.

The answers to these perplexing questions are revealed below in a fifteen-minutes-a-day social media strategy designed to make you a little smarter, a little richer and perhaps a lot better-looking! Disclaimer: I mean you’ll look better on Twitter.

As a leading network marketing industry publication, Networking Times features articles, tips and advice about networking, as well as inside commentaries from some of the leading networkers in the business.

Let’s start with an analogy to help you conceive of Twitter in a way you’ve likely never pondered. Imagine a genie granted you three gifts. First, you were given a TV station that would broadcast your programs around the clock; second, you were given the interactive capabilities of a national radio talk show; and third, you were invited to a non-stop, year-round, 24-hour cocktail party.

Beginning January 2010, QuestNet will bring online subscriptions to this valuable business resource to all our IRs. QuestNet Executive Chairperson Ms Donna Imson has been officially invited to join the Networking Times Editorial Board and she will give an insightful commentary about creating culture in the January/February 2010 issue. In the same issue, AVP Ms Rosemarie Glen will also be featured as a Master Networker, sharing with readers her journey, success, and advice in the network marketing business. As an inside look into the coming issue, aspIRe welcomes Internet marketing innovator, Dan Hollings, to share with us his story on the power of social media channel, Twitter, which will be featured in the next issue of Networking Times.

A Never-Ending Cocktail Party Can you really get smarter and richer by using a communication tool so seemingly silly as Twitter? Can you truly improve your brand, increase web traffic and expand your social network in a way that will help your business and bank account?

The potential of Twitter is like merging these three gifts into one small package: with Twitter, you can broadcast interesting tidbits of information around the clock, you can chat and interact like a radio talk show host anytime you desire, and all that business and social networking that used to take place on the golf course, neighborhood gatherings, church and yes, even cocktail parties is now in full swing, all day, every day, on Twitter. This new marketing phenomenon is as exciting as it is challenging. Yes, you have a TV station, but now you need programs to air. Yes, you can chat with people from around the world, but how much time can you devote to that? And yes, it’s a perpetual cocktail party, but you can get a hangover just thinking about it! With opportunity comes challenge, and therein lies the need for a realistic Twitter strategy. Here are seven tips that will get you started in just fifteen minutes a day: 1. Shoot for ten to fifty tweets a day. Research suggests that twenty-four tweets a day optimizes your exposure in social media, provided that your tweets are interesting, high-quality and broadly

spaced, and that you add the human interactive touch (when time permits). With Twitter, people do not read your

previous week’s tweets; you are either “on the air” or out of sight—and out of mind. 2. Develop a following. How? Be you, only notch it up a bit. Be more humorous, more social, more sexy, more original, more everything. (But not more obnoxious.) Also, use a validation service, such as TrueTwit. com, to make sure your followers are human beings and not robots. 3. Repurpose your existing content into high quality tweet sets and schedule them for reruns (yes, just like a TV station schedules program reruns). A tweet set is a series of tweets you prepare one time from content you already have (articles, blog posts, e-books, product benefits, etc.) and set up for recurring tweets in a tweet scheduler (for example: budurl.com/

schedulemytweets). Schedule them for reruns, just like a TV station schedules program reruns. I recommend tweet sets of at least fifty tweets per topic so that they can be scheduled to run one per week for a whole year without duplication.

consume much time. Twitter does have a policy against spam-like repeat tweets, so avoid repeating duplicate tweets close together (especially tweets with links). Rerunning a tweet several weeks apart is a conservative schedule.

“filler” tweets. You can create your own tweet sets of jokes and quotes or, if you prefer to work smart, you can subscribe to high-quality syndicated tweet content that will make you the life of the party. One such service is Twyndication.com.

4. Create as many tweet sets as you can from knowledge you have in your head. As a networker, you are an expert in what you do. With a little effort you can crystallize your knowledge into a few sets of tweets that provide tips, how-to and expertise. You’ll actually feel yourself getting smarter as you do this. Nothing is better for honing your knowledge than breaking it down into bite-size, maximum-140-character snippets. Remember, if you can’t quite squeeze an idea into 140 characters, or if you need to show a video or picture, Twitter allows you to add short links in any tweet you create. Once done, add your new tweet sets to your scheduler (again, one tweet per week is a good frequency to avoid duplicate tweets).

6. Retweet the good stuff you find. Retweeting is just like forwarding an interesting email along to a bunch of friends, and it’s a great way to augment your Twitter timeline with more good content. Retweeting will also win you the appreciation of those whose tweets you’ve retweeted. Is it okay to put some of your favorite retweets into a scheduler? The answer is yes. If it was interesting enough to retweet today, it should be just as interesting to your future followers next month. Do it with prudence, but do it.

Add this all up and you have one of the most dynamic, nonstop marketing and networking tools ever to hit the Internet or mobile web. With this fifteen-minutes-a-day strategy in place, you’ll have time to interact socially (as social media requires) and fill your 24-hour timeline with high-quality, interesting tweets so that no matter when a follower tunes in, you’ll be “on the air” with cocktail in hand.

5. Post daily spontaneous tweets, but try to think ahead about the possibility of rerunning some of these. A tweet should have a shelf life of longer than one hour. If your tweet will be just as interesting next week or next month, give it an afterlife and rerun it using your tweet scheduler. If you do this, your daily spontaneous tweets will begin to layer into an ever-vibrant Twitter timeline that everyone will enjoy—and it won’t

7. Mix it up. Just as a plumber can’t go to a cocktail party and talk pipes and drippy faucets all night without getting banished to the powder room with a monkey wrench, so it is with Twitter. You can’t be myopic in what you Tweet about. An interesting cocktail party conversation might include the sharing of jokes, recipes, stories, quotes, gossip, sports, you name it. (Often in actual cocktail parties, your professional expertise never comes up at all.) It is this quirk of Twitter that opens the door for adding interesting

n a fickle industry that demands professionalism, innovation, and dedicated relationship management, international direct selling company QuestNet has just celebrated its 11th year in the industry, defying market trends by continuing to grow as a revolutionary lifestyle company serving dozens of markets around the world. The past year has bred worldwide economic calamity and job insecurity throughout most industries and businesses, however, 2008-09 has been chalked up as an incredibly successful and active 12 months for QuestNet. With a burgeoning customer base and a doubling of product offerings that have been developed and launched, the past year has also been highlighted by involvement in strategic industry events and initiatives, widespread charitable programmes, and advancements in IT infrastructure for the company’s e-commerce platform.

In its continued contribution to the progress of the wider direct selling industry, QuestNet was closely involved as a major sponsor with the 2009 Elite Network Marketing Conference (ENMC), held in Singapore. Designed to promote and champion the global industry, the ENMC sold out with hundreds of networking professionals. Invited to speak at the conference as a keynote speaker was QuestNet Executive Chairperson, Ms Donna Imson, who also sat on the widely received conference discussion panel. Earlier this year, QuestNet was also a major sponsor of the Case Trust Fair Trading Expo, which concentrated on fair trading practices and customer advocacy within business environments. In the past 12 months, QuestNet also sent a strong delegation of company representatives to the International Direct Selling Festival in Dubai and the WFDSA World Congress, held in Singapore. QuestNet was also recognised as a leading network marketing company by a high-profile Indonesian business magazine, and was given the Caring Company status in Hong Kong for the third year in a row. While business industry events have ranked high on the QuestNet calendar, so too have events and expos pertaining to the various product industries in which QuestNet is active. Some of the major events included the USA’s Natural Products Expo West, the ITB Asia Travel Expo, Switzerland’s Baselworld International Watch Fair, and the International Coin & Stamp Expo in Beijing. Following 11 years of tradition, QuestNet was also responsible for its own large-scale events, attracting thousands of networkers from around the globe to the company’s various V-Conventions and ReVCon World Tours in locations throughout Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

QuestNet was awarded the Caring Company award for the third year in a row, in recognition of its good business practices.

Topping the list of product development and launches in the past year were innovative and exclusive nutritional and wellness products, such as Olé olive leaf extract, Salba® natural whole food products, FibreFit soluble fibre supplement, Veloci-Ti energised titanium performance pendants, and the natural energy jewellery brand, Himalayan Crystal CollectionTM. The entire product portfolio was backed up by international product training programmes, stretching through regions such as Australia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Uganda, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Bahrain, Tanzania, Oman, Turkey, Dubai, and Mauritius. Recently in 2009, QuestNet, through its CSR programme ‘QuestNet Pays Forward’ and RYTHM Foundation, the CSR arm of its parent company QI Group, joined together with World Vision International in the most widespread corporate sponsorship programme in World Vision history. The partnership will see QuestNet sponsoring 11 children in 11 different countries over a two-year period, to provide health, housing, education, and support services. A total of USD 110,000 has been donated to World Vision International as part of the sponsorship. This initiative is the latest in ongoing philanthropic activity for the company, which in the past year has also included valuable donations to organisations and charities, such as the United Nations World Food Programme; UNICEF Water Sanitisation Programme; the Qatar Charity’s Gaza Relief Programme; the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Royal Charity Organisation; The Rainbow Project; the Thongchai Jaidee Foundation; Her Majesty Queen Sylvia Nagginda of Buganda’s Nnabagereka Development Trust Foundation; H.E. the First Lady of Uganda’s UWESO (Ugandan Women’s Effort to Save Orphans) Foundation; the ‘Think Tank’ of the Makerere University Private Sector Forum, under the patronage of Governor Emmanuel Mutebile of Bank of Uganda; and many others. The future of this dynamic and progressive company is looking similarly exciting. The company has just embarked on an official four-year sponsorship of the Asian Football Confederation Champions League, which is already bringing immense branding exposure to QuestNet’s key markets. More nutritional and wellness products are ready to be introduced to the market and further worldwide network and product training and events are already scheduled, as is the involvement in industry-wide events and conferences. What’s more, the company will continue to commit to professional marketing practices and corporate social responsibility across the world.

Dream. Perform. Achieve.

With QuestNet & The AFC Champions League By Jodi A. Hammond

Q

uestNet is proud to announce a four-year official partnership with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League. With its kick-off coinciding with September’s Quarter Finals, the sponsorship is bringing the QuestNet opportunity and range of products to the football masses through televised games and a number of on-ground exciting sponsorship activities. Following this year’s Finals that were held in Japan in November, the QuestNet-AFC Champions League sponsorship will now continue to evolve over the next three years until the closure of the 2012 season. The Asian Football Confederation is the governing body of Asian football, with 46 member associations competing in the Confederation’s leagues and championships. The AFC is one of the six Continental Confederations that make up the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The AFC works tirelessly to improve the sport throughout Asia by regulating the game, drafting new laws to improve the sport, implementing the law, boosting grassroots and youth football, and hosting major competitions. The AFC Champions League is the platform from which football legends are made. The pages in Asian football’s history books are constantly being filled with unforgettable goals, the overcoming of adversity, and on-field feats that prove these players are the best of the best.

On the football field, the determination is powerful and motivating. The excitement is authentic and exhilarating. The desire is strong and rewarding. The success is real and obtainable. The field of direct selling is no different. Just as the AFC Champions League is the breeding ground of football champions and the showcase in which they excel, QuestNet is the platform for performance amongst the entrepreneurial go-getters of this world. Like their football-playing counterparts, QuestNet Independent Representatives dream big, perform big, and consequently, achieve big. Living the lifestyle they want in a business they are passionate about, QuestNet IRs, like footballers, get paid for doing what they love. For many years, QuestNet has been building champions through strategic sports sponsorships, such as the highly addictive and popular GP2 Asia Series with the sponsorship of team MY QI-Meritus. Mahara, the only truly Asian racing team in the series. This year marks the beginning of a new and exhilarating sporting sponsorship, where the ideals and passion of QuestNet are aligned with that of the most popular and widely-supported sport in the world. QuestNet Managing Director Mr JR Mayer said he was proud to launch the sponsorship at an important time during the company’s 11th Anniversary.

“On behalf of QuestNet, I would like to say how honoured we are to kick off this four-year sponsorship with the prestigious AFC Champions League, simultaneously with our 11th Anniversary celebrations,” he said. “We’re looking forward to actively supporting the competition and participating in its growth towards the highest level of performance in professional football.” Project Manager Christophe Altaie, following the first QuestNet-sponsored and IR-attended AFC Champions League match in Doha, Qatar, on 23 September 2009, confirmed: “The QuestNet presence in the Qatar FC Stadium was strongly felt, primarily through the extremely enthusiastic IRs who came to support their team, and thanks to the prominent sponsorship activation made within and around the stadium: perimeter A Board, fans’ attire (handy flags and t-shirts), V Studios’ video display, interview backdrops and banners, all prominently strengthening QuestNet as the Official Supporter of the AFC Champions League.” He added, “We all felt proud of our new partnership with such a recognised sport’s league, and I received reciprocal comments from the AFC Reps, who are enjoying getting such strong on-ground support at their events.” The AFC Champions League will create heroes. It will showcase elite performance. It is football at Asia’s finest… Brought to you by the AFC and officially supported by QuestNet.

he last quarter of 2009 has been very exciting. Most of my friends in other businesses are working on their report or closing the financial review for 2009, but for QuestNet, it seems like our first business month has just started!

Spreading our birthday through RYTHM around the world September is our birth month and, following our anniversary tradition, QuestNet launched its worldwide 11th Anniversary programme under the theme ‘Building Excellence Together’. There was a series of activities planned for the anniversary and, in 2009, our Headquarters in Hong Kong had the honour to be the host for the kick-off celebration. A special 80s-inspired party was held to mark the occasion. The anniversary committee – headed by QI Group Managing Director Mr Joseph Bismark, QuestNet Executive Chairperson Ms Donna Imson, QuestNet Managing Director Mr JR Mayer, and QuestNet Chief Customer Services Ms Malou Caluza – were determined to reinforce the spirit of RYTHM and share the happiness of the anniversary with those in need. We started our anniversary project by partnering with World Vision International and the donation of USD 110,000 to benefit 11 children living in poverty-stricken conditions in each of the programme’s 11 targeted countries, including Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan and India. I attended the signing ceremony and press conference with Mr JR Mayer in Hong Kong, and it was a humbling

experience to know that we were able to use a noteworthy event in our life to make a significant difference in the lives of others. Thanks to the anniversary committee’s decision!

Do you know that your Network Support Officers (NSO) can do a lot more than managing your daily enquiries? If you think your NSO, receptionists, graphic designers, and even finance officers are just boring groups of corporate morons, I would like you to see them perform their ‘QI’s Got Talent’ performance entries to surely change your opinion. I enjoyed watching a variety of performances by our corporate staff from various QuestNet offices around the world during the anniversary and was very impressed with their hidden creativity and talent. Who knows, you might be dealing with the next Hollywood star in a QuestNet office!

NSS and product launch in Azerbaijan After the anniversary celebration in Hong Kong, I received a call from QuestNet Business Development Manager for Central Asia, Mr Hanifi Isgoren. Mr Isgoren wanted me to organise the VIP event in Azerbaijan. Not only did The V hold their NSS event in Azerbaijan, but QuestNet also launched what is sure to be a popular product in the country. The product we launched is top of the line and I believe all our global family should have heard about our very first product. Curious to know what it is? How long have you been with our QuestNet family? If your answer is ‘seven’ onward, I am sure that your QuestNet gold or silver coin is still in your treasure trove. I love the Bernhard H. Mayer® watches and I am a big fan of BioSilver, however, there’s a magic spell in gold and silver medallions and coins. The glistening of precious metals and pristine designs that commemorate the history of a person or place… all that I can hold in the palm of my hand has always stunned me. Numismatics is always the real art and the beauty of coins is eternal. It was a historical evening for 320 VIPs and corporate guests at the International Mugham Centre, when QuestNet and the Azerbaijan Ministry of Sport, together with the world-renowned B.H. The blissful design of the medal is inspired by the former leader’s great contribution to Azerbaijan and his heroism for the Azerbaijani people. B.H. Mayer’s Mint Chairman Mr Bernhard Mayer, myself, and the Azerbaijan media all enjoyed a presentation about the design and production of the medal. Towards the end of the programme, Mr Mayer went up on stage and thanked everyone for allowing QuestNet this prestigious opportunity. “It is our own unique way of acknowledging the significant contributions to mankind that these great people have made,” said Mr Mayer.

QuestNet Inducted As Member Of Direct Selling Association Singapore By Jodi A. Hammond

e are pleased to annouce that QuestNet Ltd has recently been accepted into the Direct Selling Association of Singapore (DSAS), following a rigorous application process and observation period. The DSAS membership is a significant recognition of QuestNet Ltd as a reputable, established and professional direct selling company. The process of membership application was strict and tightly controlled, involving interviews, legal scrutiny of the QuestNet business and compensation plan, and a six-month probation period during which the company was under stringent observation. This is the normal process for DSAS applicants. In keeping with industry standards and expectations, and its membership, QuestNet is bound by the Association’s Code of Conduct & Ethics, as well as the two Codes of Conduct & Practice of the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA).

Take The First Step Perfecting The Invite By Chanatthanan Jonglaekha “Inviting allows you to ‘prepare’ or ‘practice’ for the actual presentation, by becoming confident talking to people and building a rapport with them.” - Joseph Bismark, QI Group Managing Director

A

re you having difficulty inviting your prospects to a networking event, a business opportunity meeting, or simply keeping them on the line during a phone call? Do you notice a frown on their faces during your conversation? Do you experience the disappointment of prospects who promise to attend an event, but never show up? If your answer to any of these questions is ‘yes’, ask yourself why you cannot inspire or create a good impression for your prospects to be a part of your business. Some people believe that only those who are people-oriented and are expert in making a business presentation can succeed in the network marketing business, while those who feel a little intimidated by the process should not get into network marketing at all. This is the wrong way of thinking! ‘Inviting’ is one of the keys to success. If you can invite well, you will give yourself the extra confidence to present well. Remember that when dealing with prospects, you should always keep it friendly. Don’t start your conversation with the business opportunity, as most people will feel uneasy if you give them a cold start. They will automatically know that you are pushing a sales pitch and they often become close-minded. So, how do you make an effective invitation? Here are some secrets, tips, and advice: • Find a comfortable location to talk with your prospect e.g. coffee shop, cosy restaurant, etc. • Use the art of listening to show genuine interest in your prospect. This will convey your sincerity and win your prospect’s trust. • Ask questions to reveal his/her interest and background. • Pay attention to his/her answers to find their specific needs. • Make mental notes or write down his/her key answers.

• •

Ask follow-up questions that will lead you to know the S-I-G-N. Give positive feedback. Pay close attention to your prospect’s reaction during the conversation. If your prospect seems bothered or shows no interest in what you are saying, let them go. It is not worth the unpleasant feeling. However, if you have the interest of your prospect, it’s time for presentation!

The presentation should be conducted within 48 hours after your conversation with your prospect. Time your presentation and make it short and simple (20-25 minutes) to make your prospect curious on what comes next. Structure your presentation right and allow questions at the end. If your prospect comes with loads of questions, you should invite him/her to the next meeting with more information provided. The content of one-on-one presentations should cover: • A brief background of yourself (how you got in touch with QuestNet) • Benefits of network marketing business • Estimated money made in network marketing • One-minute product presentation • One-minute company profile presentation • Support Structure – Highlight what NSG is all about and the regular meetings that are held by the company • Options – Show what options your prospect has. Show him/her what could be the next step If you are not yet confident enough to present the business opportunity by yourself, solicit the help of your Upline or arrange for your prospect to attend scheduled business presentation meetings. How well you do at inviting will greatly depend on the growth of your communication skills. Remember, you might not be successful every time, but the more you talk to people, the easier it becomes, the more your communication skills will grow, and the more successful you will become. Happy Networking!

QuestNet Chief Operating Officer

Ensuring The Network Has The Tools To Succeed By Jodi A. Hammond

Y

ou may not know this man’s face, but his hands are all over just about anything to do with QuestNet. Joining the company three years ago, Mr Dave Osh is now totally immersed in his responsibilities as QuestNet’s Chief Operating Officer.

Holding a BA in Economics, a CPA certification and an MBA, Dave was educated in the US and has since had 20 years of business experience with predominantly high-tech and e-commerce companies. Dave says it was his belief in the future convergence of network marketing and the Internet that initially attracted him to QuestNet. But as his QuestNet career has progressed, he says he has realised the true attraction of the company is much deeper. “Network marketing, in its traditional form, is word of mouth promotion and relationship building,” he says. “This is the best business opportunity to leverage on Internet and e-commerce. That was my first interest in joining QuestNet. “It was only after I joined the company that I discovered that the real attraction point was not the technology, but the ability to identify with the mission of the company, to love the people who make the company, and to like the international exposure. What keeps me attracted to the company almost after three years is the amazing mosaic of personalities and the special core values of the founding directors. I feel that QuestNet is a place you grow not just as a professional but also as a human being. This is a unique, rare quality in today’s indifferent corporate world.”

A personal journey in RYTHM “Working for QuestNet is a perpetual journey to raise yourself to help others. Even with vast experience as a senior executive in international companies, it took me a while to understand that RYTHM is not the common corporate fluff we find in companies’ brochures. RYTHM is a way of life that is embedded in everything we do. It applies to every networker as much as it applies to every corporate employee. Only after absorbing RYTHM into your personality and your life, you start to empathise with the network goals as much as the corporate objectives and you can steer this business toward its destination,” he says.

The secret to corporate-network relationships According to Dave, the secret to success when it comes to the relationship between the network and the corporate sides of QuestNet is in the ability of corporate staff to empathise and visualise the networkers’ life, the challenges they are facing, and the dreams they would like to realise. “The more exposure the corporate will have to the network, the more value it will create for the network. We encourage our employees to attend V-Cons, meet the networkers, and spend time and efforts to better understand the people we serve.”

Qplus Opens Doors To A Better, Brighter Future

An Exciting Opportunity Is Unveiled In The Philippines By Gil Cadiz and Josephene Mendoza Photos by Noel Abelardo and Oliver Moreno

“We stand at the edge of a New Frontier.” – John F. Kennedy

T

he words ‘market innovator,’ ‘solid reputation,’ ‘proven growth potential,’ and ‘recognised industry leadership’ characterise what QuestNet is today, at 11 years strong. From the time it was conceived, one vision has driven the evolution of the company: the commitment to change lives around the world. It is this stewardship and dedication to the business, society, community, and the environment that has made achieving bigger dreams possible. The birth of a new company called ‘Qplus’ is one such example, as a solid business focussed on exciting and revolutionary health and wellness products. The week of 14 to 19 September 2009 had been the year’s most hectic week for the Philippine corporate group and the Filipino IRs. Everyone’s mental and physical energies were focussed on one thing: to celebrate the opening of Qplus in the Philippines.

FEATURE Following the all-week celebratory events, the doors of the new Qplus office were officially opened on Saturday, 19 September 2009, in a simple but meaningful ceremony graced by esteemed Directors, AVPs, VCs, IRs, and corporate staff. A traditional ribbon-cutting event kicked off the inaugural ceremony. Guests were then ushered into the training room where they were welcomed by Qplus Project Manager, Mr Amar Chandnani. The formal dedication service followed, officiated by Pastor Edgar Gorre of Victory Christian Fellowship. He discussed how being a business owner is a wonderful privilege, but with that privilege often comes difficulty as well. He challenged the audience to let God be the guide in doing business and as a result of this action, without a doubt, rewards and blessings will be plentiful. The right business is holistic. His statements mirrored Qplus’ core mission to enable and inspire people to improve their lives and those of others around the world. QI Directors Mr TG Kintanar, Mr Joachim Steffen, Ms Judith Reyes, Mr Richard Zinkiewicz, Mr Pathman Senathirajah, newly hailed Qplus Chairman General Dioscoro Yoro, Jr, and V-Partner Mr Ranjit Singh then proceeded to share their messages highlighting the Qplus brand positioning, business potential and brand strategy, the importance and mark of a vitality lifestyle, and the much-awaited Qplus Business Prototype and Compensation Plan. QI Group Managing Director Mr Joseph Bismark and gracious host QI Director for Network Affairs and QuestNet Executive Chairperson Ms Donna Imson shared their vision for Qplus, in significant efforts to inspire and encourage growth and excellence on the way to the top, empowering lives for the next decade and beyond. After the ceremonial part of the programme finished, guests were taken on a Qplus office tour, which is built with environmentally friendly materials and energy-saving devices, and is sandstone-finished in vibrant shades of green, yellow and white. The Qplus home is an extension of Qplus’ health and wellness mandate. A ‘green’ or sustainable work environment is seen to enhance productivity and overall workplace satisfaction. The Qplus office is housed in the new Rockwell-Meralco Business Centre. It is located between the Meralco Compound and the Medical City Hospital, and is a stone’s throw away from the Ortigas Central Business District. The Human Spirit Triumphs

QuestNet And World Vision Conduct Relief Mission In Taytay, Rizal By Christophe Altaie

I

t was an overcast morning on Wednesday, 14 October 2009, when a group of Philippine Office staff led by QuestNet Executive Chairperson and RYTHM Foundation Trustee Ms Donna Imson joined the officers, staff, and volunteers of the International NGO World Vision in distributing sets of relief goods to 500 flood-affected families in a community in Taytay, a Rizal Province municipality that is conurbated with Metro Manila. This relief mission was made possible through the donations collected by the QuestNet Pays Forward Typhoon Ondoy 5-5-5 Fund. The delegation converged at the World Vision Headquarters in Quezon City and convoyed towards Sitio Bangyiad, a small village that had suffered massive flooding on 26 September wrought by Typhoon Ondoy (international name – Ketsana). A month’s worth of rain poured non-stop for six hours causing the water levels of lakes, rivers and dams to rise and overflow. Sitio Bangyiad is close to the shore of the largest lake in the Philippines called Laguna de Bay. As a result of the extraordinarily heavy deluge, the lake overflowed and submerged villages situated around its shores. Sitio Bangyiad today is still underwater and the water is not expected to subside until the first quarter of next year. At Sitio Bangyiad, the convoy was greeted by the community leaders and the villagers who lined up for more than six hours, despite intermittent rain showers. World Vision Director for Publics-in-Ministry Mr Boris Joaquin and Ms Donna Imson immediately approached them to listen to their stories, comfort them, and ask what else they needed. As the village is still underwater, the distribution had to be done in the narrow and muddy entrance of the village. The community leaders re-organised the queues for a fast and efficient relief distribution. Ms Imson and Mr Joaquin led the handing out of relief bundles composed of a half sack of rice, a gallon of drinking water, a big bucket of biscuits, a pack of food, kitchen items, and survival and hygiene kits. Everyone was drenched in the rain and in sweat but their spirits were as high as ever. Indeed, nothing is stronger than the heart of a volunteer. Three weeks earlier, these people lost a lot of their possessions and are now living in damaged homes in what has become a water world. But in their eyes, smiles, laughter and gestures exude the most quintessential Filipino character: Resilience. Their clothes were soaked in the rain. Some elderly folks shivered in the cold. A couple of very

pregnant women withstood the strain of waiting in the cold rain. A blind man courageously queued up relying on the kindness of his neighbours. Lining up for a bit of help is hurtful enough to their sense of pride but these beneficiaries were smiling, helping each other out and saying the words “Maraming Salamat! (Thank you very much!)”. They personified the exemplary human spirit, the combination of hope, faith, patience and the related qualities that give them the strength to get themselves out of or through hard times. At one moment when Ms Imson was busy handing out the goods from the truck, she paused and gazed over the people lining up. She turned to a QuestNet staff and said “Nothing could be more perfect than this to put things in proper perspective.” The staff agreed and responded, “I couldn’t agree with you more. We have no right to complain...” Besides Sitio Bangyiad, QuestNet in partnership with World Vision through the QuestNet Pays Forward Typhoon Ondoy 5-5-5 Fund will also distribute one thousand more sets of relief goods in other communities that have been devastated by this natural disaster.

Relief Aid for Padang Earthquake Victims In the same month as Typhoon Ondoy in the Philippines, a powerful earthquake with a moment magnitude at 7.6 struck western Indonesia at Padang, a coastal city of 900,000 on Sumatra island. Thousands of people were trapped under collapsed buildings caused by the temblor, which also started fires, severed roads, caused landslides that buried some villages, and cut off power and communication. Thousands died or were injured, with most deaths occurring in the areas of Padang Pariaman, Padang, Agam and Pariaman. In addition, an estimated 250,000 families (1,250,000 people) have been affected by the earthquake through the total or partial loss of their homes and livelihoods. QuestNet representatives in Indonesia, hand-in-hand with IRs, immediately responded to gather emergency help. Utilising free transportation provided by a local shipping line, medicines, baby food, other foodstuff and clothes were sent for the survivors on 3 October 2009. This was later followed by another donation on

5 November through a volunteer organisation to support students with school kits in an elementary school, Sekolah SDN 08 V KO TO Timur, Padang Alai. To share the grief of the residents of Padang, the company and IRs, through QuestNet Pays Forward and RYTHM Foundation, donated USD 20,000 for victims of the earthquake through World Vision Indonesia. Funding is aimed to help children and their families impacted by the disaster during a one-year programme. The handover ceremony was held on 24 November at World Vision’s office in Jakarta.

Vegetarianism Series A Healthy And Happy Habit By Felisa Tangsanga

V

egetarianism can be a very healthy option only if your vegetarian diet plan is well balanced. This means eating a variety of foods including grains, fruit and vegetables, beans, pulses, nuts or seeds, a small amount of fat, with or without dairy products. So, what do vegetarians have to watch out for? Find out in aspIRe’s ongoing Vegetarianism series.

Different types of vegetarian diets ‘To eat meat or not to eat meat’ is the question on many people's mind. The negative impact of animal foods on health, the damage associated with animal foods and the environment, religious beliefs, and the desire to protect and respect animals are some of the reasons for the increase in vegetarian diets. Many people express an interest in consuming a vegetarian diet but they are unsure of how to do it or are not ready to give up meat. The key to making this diet work for you is to understand what nutrients you are missing from the foods that you are not consuming and to learn how to balance your meals without these foods. ‘Vegetarian’ can mean lots of different things. The various types of vegetarian diets include: 1. Lacto-ovo vegetarianism is a vegetarian who does not eat beef, lamb, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, but is willing to consume dairy and egg products. 2. Lacto vegetarianism is a vegetarian diet that includes dairy products such as milk, cheese, yoghurt, butter, cream, and kefir, but excludes eggs. 3. Ovo vegetarianism is a vegetarian diet that allows for the consumption of eggs, but dairy products are not permitted. 4. Veganism is a diet and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purposes. Vegans endeavour not to use or consume animal products of any kind. 5. Pesco-vegetarian can eat fish along with a plant-based diet. 6. Flexitarian or semi-vegetarian refers to a lacto-ovo vegetarian who occasionally eats meat, fish, or poultry.

Nutrients to focus on for vegetarians Vegetarian diets can be healthy and nutritive if they are carefully planned to include essential nutrients. For example, a diet rich in fruits and veggies will be high in fibre and low in fat — factors known to improve cardiovascular health by reducing blood cholesterol and maintaining a healthy weight. To ensure adequate nutrition, vegetarians should eat a wide variety of food including unprocessed whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans, and soy products. • Protein - You don't need to eat foods from animals to have enough protein in your diet. Plant proteins alone can provide enough of the essential and non-essential amino acids, as long as sources of dietary protein are varied and caloric intake

is high enough to meet energy needs. Whole grains, legumes, vegetables, seeds and nuts all contain both essential and non-essential amino acids. Soy protein has been shown to be equal to proteins of animal origin. It can be your sole protein source if you choose. • Iron - Iron sources for vegetarians include iron-fortified breakfast cereals, spinach, kidney beans, black-eyed peas, lentils, turnip greens, molasses, whole wheat breads, peas, and some dried fruits (dried apricots, prunes, and raisins). • Calcium - Studies show that vegetarians absorb and retain more calcium from foods than non-vegetarians do. Vegetable greens such as spinach, kale and broccoli, and some legumes and soybean products, are good sources of calcium from plants. • Zinc - Sources of zinc for vegetarians include many types of beans (white beans, kidney beans, and chickpeas), zinc-fortified breakfast cereals, wheat germ, and pumpkin seeds. Milk products are a zinc source for lacto vegetarians. • Vitamin B12 - This comes naturally only from animal sources and may be found in some fortified foods. Sources of vitamin B12 for vegetarians include milk products, eggs, and foods that have been fortified with vitamin B12. These include breakfast cereals, soy-based beverages, veggie burgers, and nutritional yeast. • Vitamin D - Vegans should have a reliable source of vitamin D. Vegans who don’t get much sunlight may need a supplement. These days, more and more people are seeking the health benefits of a diet rich in plant-based foods. Of course, some people follow a vegetarian diet for religious or ethical reasons. But enjoying and eating vegetarian also has many health benefits, ranging from aiding weight loss to preventing disease. The American Cancer Society, American Institute for Cancer Research, and American Heart Association all recommend a diet rich in plant-based foods. Such a diet contains an abundance of antioxidants, phytochemicals, and fibre, with low levels of saturated fat and cholesterol.

The Most Extensive Sponsorship Programme In World Vision History By Jodi A. Hammond

A

new partnership between World Vision International and QuestNet will ensure the lives of 121 impoverished children in 11 countries are enriched with education opportunities, health care, and support systems. The two-year sponsorship programme will represent the most far-reaching global initiative in the history of the established charity organisation, World Vision. As part of the programme, QuestNet has donated USD 110,000 to benefit 11 children living in poverty-stricken conditions in each of the programme’s 11 targeted countries. The children live in disadvantaged regions and communities that World Vision has identified as being in need of great assistance and development. The sponsorship programme is also in conjunction with QuestNet’s 11th Anniversary, with 11 families in 11 countries receiving the two-year assistance. The support will go to children and families in Ethiopia, Uganda, Tajikistan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, and Singapore.

World Vision, a non-profit child-focussed emergency, relief, development and advocacy organisation, and QuestNet, an international direct selling company with a history of philanthropic activities through its ‘QuestNet Pays Forward’ initiative, will oversee the sponsorship programme over two years. The manner in which the donations are utilised will be on a case-by-case basis to guarantee the sponsorship is tailored to best meet the individual needs of each child. The support infrastructure and local-level knowledge and access of World Vision will ensure maximum benefit to the children who need it most. In addition, the communities of the children shall not be passive recipients of the support, but will be actively involved in the planning and fulfilment of the sponsorship so as to foster self-sufficiency and sustainability within the community. The objective is to ensure the benefit borne of the sponsorship will continue long after the programme has ended in 2011.

“This partnership and the life-changing deeds that will come of it is so close to our hearts,” QuestNet Executive Chairperson Ms Donna Imson said. Ms Imson is also a trustee of RYTHM Foundation, the official Corporate Social Responsibility arm of QuestNet. “One of our underlying motivations is our belief that children are our future. Both the ‘QuestNet Pays Forward’ initiative and RYTHM Foundation are committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment in which every child rightly deserves to grow up. World Vision shares this commitment and I am confident that together we can truly make a difference in the lives of these children and their families. “We also foresee this as the beginning of a long partnership with World Vision and as being a catalyst for the representatives in our direct selling network, as well as corporate staff, to personally sponsor children through World Vision.”

FEATURE

QuestNet Managing Director Mr JR Mayer said the sponsorship programme was a meaningful way for QuestNet to have a truly positive impact in the regions the company operates. “Our company’s mission is RYTHM, meaning Raise Yourself To Help Mankind,” Mr Mayer said. “We believe that when we do business in a country, our responsibility does not end with our business dealings. We have a responsibility to the community also. In QuestNet’s 11-year history, we have always endeavoured to give something back to the communities of the many countries in which we do business. That is the concept of ‘QuestNet Pays Forward’ and of this partnership with World Vision.” World Vision Director for Publics-in-Ministry, Mr Boris Joaquin, said QuestNet’s sponsorship was the most widespread corporate programme that World Vision has partnered with to date.

“No other corporate initiative has touched lives across so many countries in the communities that need it the most,” he said. “We are grateful to QuestNet and their strong show of support for the children of the world. Child sponsorship works by giving these 121 children a chance. In some places, this means advocating for and with children. In other places, it is as simple as giving a child a satchel and some books and helping them go to school, or it might mean assisting families so they can achieve economic sustainability. But overall, this partnership will help combat the complex problems that affect children.” The partnership was officially announced at a press conference held in Hong Kong on Friday, 28 August 2009, which received wide media coverage in international newspapers.

TRAVEL

From Spain, With Love A Country With Character By Siti Rasiqah

I

f you are travelling to Spain for the first time, be prepared to fall in love with this charmingly diverse country. Before you know it, Spain has drawn you in like an addiction, seducing you to visit her over and over again.

For the love of history Not only is it a mosaic of cultures and civilisations spanning thousands of years, Spain is also a country with a colourful and fascinating history that is still apparent today. Its glorious past is reflected in its prehistoric cave paintings, Moorish castles, Roman buildings and structures, and Renaissance cathedrals. A land that has gone through eras of different rules still preserves its roots through awe-inspiring monuments and architecture that have stood the test of time.

Nowhere else in the world do the cultures of Christianity, Islam and Judaism stand side by side like they do in Cordoba, the former capital of Moorish Spain. Cordoba’s Great Mosque, La Mezquita, is a blend of Moorish and Christian architecture. What makes it unique is the Christian cathedral squatted in the centre of the mosque built by Catholic King Ferdinand III, making the Mosque a true synthesis of art, religion and history. North of the Mezquita lies Cordoba’s old

Jewish quarter – Juderia – an important world centre of Jewish culture in the Spanish Middle Ages. The quarter is full of narrow streets with white limestone-painted houses, charming overhanging balconies, and quaint small shops. A must-visit is the old Synagogue which was built in 1492 and is still standing on Judios (Jews) Street. In Granada lies the great Alhambra, a 14th century castle fortress made up of a series of fortresses, gardens and palaces, overlooking the fertile valley plains with the city at its feet. The oldest part of the fortress is the Alcazaba, with an impressive courtyard marked with imposing towers. After the Alcazaba was built, various rulers added palaces, chapels and other buildings regularly. This imposing monument is another historical representation of Moorish art and reminds visitors of Granada’s centuries-long Arab rule. The well-preserved town of Toledo is known as the City of Three Cultures, where Christians, Jews and Muslims used to live together and thrive peacefully under the Moors. Today, footprints from those days are still visible as churches, synagogues, mosques and houses are heaped upon one another in a spiral, haphazard way. It could prove to be a challenge to navigate through its narrow cobblestoned streets, but that’s part of the city’s charms; it is a place to wander and absorb the stunning range of art and architecture on display.

Frolicking in the sun The coasts and islands of Spain are always wildly popular for its warm climate, friendly locals and spectacular beaches. With over 160-km coastline and 2,500 hours of sunshine each year, Málaga’s Costa del Sol is definitely a choice destination for

sun worshippers. This coast of the Sun also offers an exciting selection of entertainment and relaxation options for everyone. The town of Benalmádena on the western coast boasts of excellent holiday facilities and amenities; including great accommodation, golf courses, a casino, and a marina. If you get bored of soaking in the deep-blue Mediterranean waters or perfecting your tan, spend the day at Tivoli World, an amusement park. Another tourist hotspot known for its all-year-round sunshine is Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands. Here, more treasures can be discovered across its natural landscape that beats lounging on the beach all day. The island’s landmass is covered by national parks, forests and dramatic mountain ranges peppered with tiny villages. Unforgettable Experiences When Your Dream Vacation Comes True

‘Great Place, Good Food, and Incredible People’ “It was a wonderful holiday. The accommodation at Prana was excellent. It was very modern, elegant, and spotlessly clean. The staff were exceptionally friendly and hardworking. They did more than what was required of them. We were so delighted when they made floating flower arrangements with candles for us to celebrate the full moon festival. We are not vegetarians, but we did enjoy a great

dinner specially prepared for us. The food and service were both superb!” Marie Viola United Arab Emirates

‘Beyond Paradise …’ “We want to express our immense gratitude to QVI Club and the EV Turkbuku staff for such a remarkable and unforgettable holiday. My family and I have visited many corners of the world, however, we have not experienced such a good hotel and service like this before. “A luxurious room with separate pool, fantastic beach, and the cleanliness and comfortable amenities have all left the best impressions on us. EV Turkbuku is great for a family vacation or for partying. Thanks to the DJs and dancers for a wonderful show that made us have a great time! The hotel also offers a charming view of the sea and the surrounding area. It is our pleasure to recommend EV Turkbuku to our friends and relatives. Thanks QVI Club.” Sergey Vasilyev Russian Federation

‘A WOW Experience!’ “My experience at Toshali Royal View Shimala was so great! “Toshali Royal View Shimala was one of the best locations we had been to. The hotel was located in a very beautiful area. The weather, the ambience of the hotel, and the staff were all good. My nine-year old son enjoyed this place a lot because they provided many indoor games in the hotel. The food and service were excellent and the hotel rooms are very spacious. It was a wonderful experience staying there. We went during the summer when the weather was so hot everywhere but it was cold in Toshali. We enjoyed ourselves a lot. Champion Golfer

Thongchai Jaidee

Unveils His Secret To Success Veloci-Ti Performance Pendants By Chanatthanan Jonglaekha

I

f you are a golf fan, you would have heard about professional golf star Thongchai Jaidee, a Thai golfer who has recently taken his record-winning tally to 12 on the Asian Tour following his triumph at the Ballantine’s Championship in Korea. As of September 2009, Thongchai was ranked as No.3 in Asia and among the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Today, Mr Jaidee remains one of the top 50 golfers in the world. The ambitious athlete says it is his greatest pride and also the toughest, considering vigorous training, constant practice, managing his time for the media, running his self-founded charitable foundation for upcoming golfers, and spending time with his beloved family. How does he tirelessly manage all of this? The aspIRe team caught up with this inspirational sportsman to find out.

How do you keep up the energy to maintain your busy schedule? “Being a professional golfer is never easy. You have to get used to living such a busy life. One day, I came across the Veloci-Ti pendant. After I started wearing it for a while, I noticed

some great changes. I had great improvement in mobility and accuracy. My golf swing became stronger and faster. It is like having a spare battery or some kind of ‘staying power’ in my body every time I am in training or joining the tournaments. At the end of the day, I still have lots of energy left to go to the gym or to do any other energetic activities. I have become more focussed, more agile, and more flexible. My energy doesn’t drain away, which is a good thing in professional golf. I generally feel a lot healthier. Veloci-Ti is my energy-boosting secret and a big part of my success.”

How often do you wear the Veloci-Ti pendant? “To be honest, I rarely take it off. It has become a part of my body now! In the recent Ballantine’s Championship tournament, I made no mistakes with my birdie chance. The Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia Open earlier this year was also a great triumph for me. On that day the weather was extremely hot. Plus, I had to struggle hard with the tricky greens and heavy wind. But I could still remain highly focussed and in control. I could fire four birdies in the first seven holes and sink five birdies to finish three-under in a tight final round. Under all this pressure, Veloci-Ti was with me all the way.”

The Secret Behind Veloci-Ti

Thongchai on the golf course with his secret weapon, Veloci-Ti.

The energisation technology used with Veloci-Ti balances the energy flow of the human body. The energisation contains energy and information that is added as frequency modulation. It contains all sub-aspects of performance like focus, endurance, strength and agility, and works on the whole body. Veloci-Ti can help an athlete's performance in all sports, including football, swimming, tennis, running, surfing, skiing, and basketball. Featuring the versatility of titanium and proprietary energy technology combined into attractive designs, the Veloci-Ti pendants are specifically created for sporty individuals to accentuate their active lifestyle. The titanium used is 42 per cent lighter and three times stronger than steel and is highly corrosion resistant.

What is IEI Technology?

Determined to give something back to the sport, Thongchai founded his own charitable golfing foundation to help underprivileged children learn to play golf.

Do you feel different when wearing Veloci-Ti? “Definitely. I remembered that the first month I started wearing the pendant, I was No.67 in the Official World Golf Ranking. But now (early May 2009) I’ve climbed to No.49! I wish to become one of the world’s top 10 professional golfers in the years ahead. I would strongly recommend any athlete to wear Veloci-Ti and enjoy a positive change both physically and emotionally.”

IEI Technology, or Informational Energy Imprinting Technology, is a cutting-edge technology that utilises the concept of energy waves and information frequency modulation. Harnessing high frequencies via IEI Technology, Veloci-Ti pendants have been designed to increase your physical performance. The process involves taking versatile, strong, lightweight titanium, and imprinting this titanium with positive energy, and then adding performance information through frequency modulation to the energy. The performance information resonates with your body and influences your body with the right frequencies for positively enhanced performance. The result is balanced and amplified energy levels and increased physical performance, strength, endurance and focus.

3 Distinctive Designs Displaying a unique design inspired by mathematical fractals, Veloci-Ti is available in three pendants. All designs feature grey and black PVD-coated titanium, while the Cosmos Dynamic and the Concord display 18 K solid inlay.

How do you like the design of Veloci-Ti? “The design is very unique and eye-catching. It is very light as if I am wearing nothing around my neck. This is one of Veloci-Ti’s great features that I prefer. My friends also asked what it was around my neck and I replied ‘Veloci-Ti Concord Pendant’. They said that the golden almond shape in the middle of the pendant looked very much like an Egyptian eye and that gave me a mysterious and powerful look. They want to have one for themselves.”

A Watch Strap Also Needs Proper Care Good Maintenance Helps Your Watch Last Longer By Leanne Chao

A

s a proud owner of a fine timepiece, you are responsible for the care of this piece of history, the prestige that deserves to be cared for appropriately.

A wristwatch is not only a stylish accessory, it is a useful piece of jewellery too. It's no wonder why most people choose to have these timepieces instead of other fancy jewellery like bracelets, necklaces, or rings. However, with wear and tear, these valuable pieces can become damaged. Aside from regular maintenance or the battery and seals change, a watch strap also needs to be cared for and serviced. Here are the many different types of straps and bracelets that come with watches and tips to care for them:

Leather Straps • Straps that are made of natural and genuine leather will gradually deteriorate with constant exposure to perspiration. If not cleaned, perspiration can wash out the natural oils and cause the leather to become dry. Any moisture should be blotted with a soft cloth or paper towel and the strap should be allowed to dry naturally. • Salt residue and soil can be removed from leather straps by cleaning it with a dampened soft cloth and mild soap (or saddle soap, which is a special leather soap). • Wear the strap slightly loose, with an allowance of one finger space between the wrist and strap. This invites air circulation and allows any moisture to evaporate.

Rubber Straps • Rubber straps should be washed frequently with mild soap and warm water using a soft brush. • Solvents, oils, perspiration, tanning lotions and salt can cause rubber to deteriorate if not removed.

Metal Bracelets • If you participate in activities that cause you to sweat excessively, you may want to consider getting a watch with a metal bracelet or rubber strap, rather than a leather strap. • Since the metal bracelet is worn next to the skin, it collects dust and perspiration, which becomes soiled if not cleaned regularly. This is particularly true of the inner mesh of the bracelet. • When soil and rust are present in a bracelet, they are dissolved by perspiration and can cause staining of the cuffs and, in some instances, irritation of the skin. • Wipe dirt and perspiration off with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. If the watch is water resistant, you can occasionally clean the bracelet with a soft brush and warm soapy water. Dry the bracelet completely. • A toothpick can also be used to clean any dirt that has built up in the bracelet or casing of the watch. Now you know little things do need attention too! By taking care of your watch, you will also benefit from enjoying a longer life span of the hard-working straps holding you and your watch together.

I

n watchmaking, a ‘jewel’ is a functional component of a watch movement. They are man-made artificial rubies or sapphires that have been drilled and polished to serve as bearings for the gears and as stones for the pallet-arms. This reduces the friction of mechanical parts against each other to a minimum. Jewels are actually called jewels because of their precious origins, but in a watch movement, they have a strictly practical function that has nothing to do with their aesthetic qualities or value as a gemstone. A mechanical watch movement contains, on average, anywhere between 100 and 400 individual components, depending on how complicated it is. Most of these components are made of metals, but because metals cause friction when they rub against each other, watchmakers put the rotating components – the parts that rub most – in bearings to catch the friction. Friction is one of a mechanical watch movement’s deadliest enemies, since it makes the movement work harder than it should, thereby changing the amplitude of the balance wheel – which makes the rate uneven and, ultimately, off time.

Jewels

In Watch

Movement Functional Inner Sparkle By Srisumeth Rittipairoj

Back in the old days, watchmakers used antifriction metal – known as regulus – which included non-ductile types of metals such as tin and especially copper, for bearings. Around the 1700s, however, it was discovered that using a smooth, hard piece of ruby reduced friction even more for quick-rotating parts. Furthermore, bearings need to be lubricated, and the jewels cooperated better with oil than did the metals. In the past, natural rubies and sapphires were used. Small holes were carefully drilled into them to ‘bear’ the quick-rotating components. The jewels thus prepared were pressed directly into the base plate and bridges, or put into a comfy metal ‘bed’ called a chaton, which was screwed to the plate. By around 1825, the use of jewel bearings proudly confirmed the high quality of a movement, since the process for making and pressing them into metal was far more difficult than the use of regulus. Today, jewels are commonly used in every bearing, with the exception of where a ball bearing might be in use – but that is a subject for another day. The number of ‘jewels’ a movement has simply denotes the number of places where friction occurred and a gemstone was put in place to decrease it. One rule of thumb: the more jewels a movement contains, the more complicated it is. A jewel movement helps to keep your watch running smoothly. Tiny synthetic gem crystals are set between many of the gears in order to reduce friction. They also help resist temperature better than metal, and hold lubricant much longer. Exclusively available from QuestNet, the MasterArt is a watch with a 17-jewel movement and is the highlight of the esteemed collection of Bernhard H. Mayer® watches. This timepiece is a testament to the intricate artistry of watchmaking. With its high-grade jewel movement, you can be assured of the excellent running condition of the MasterArt that will keep beautiful time for years to come.
