WEEK 6 READING: SURFACES THAT CAN BE BUILT FROM PAPER IN ARCHITECTURAL GEOMETRY Question 1: What are the three elementary types of developable surfaces? Provide a brief description. Cone, cylinder and tangent surface are three fundamental surfaces that are developable. Cone can be understood as open curve extruded to a single vertex. Cylinder are composed by parallel lines. And tangent surface is consist of multiple pace curves, polygons that join to vertices.
Question 2: Why is the understanding of developable surface critical in the understanding of architectural geometry? Choose one precedent from Research/Precedents tab on LMS as an example for your discussion. These surfaces are made by basic geometries that are more buildable. For example, triangle was used in federation square to create appealing patterns and in RMIT Building 80 the extensive usage of triangles created a strong sense of order and discipline.

WEEK 7 READING: DIGITAL FABRICATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:
Question 1: What is digital fabrication and how does it change the understanding of two dimensional representation? Digital fabrication enables us to visualise 3 dimensional object prior to making physical models. It allows us to make adjustments to the object to avoid error occurring when making models from memory or 2D representation. However, 2D drawing is still of great importance, in the role of drafting and initial designs.
Question 2: Suggest two reasons why folding is used extensively in the formal expression of building design? It can transform 2D objects into 3D objects of the inverse. It costs less money than the solid modelling such as 3D printing, while a satisfactory visual effect can still be easy to achieve.
6
EXPLORING 3D PANELLING
I used the SolidPtOn command to adjust subtle difference of the standard module, such as vertex pointing different directions, and the size of openings on those boxes.
