CREATIVE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN IN BEIJING HUTONG AREA : Sino Denmark Innovation Center

PROJECT 3 Year: 2017-2018

The project obtained Honorable mentioned prize of UIA-HYP Cup 2015 International Student Competition in Architectural Design. By analysing the current urban environment and education problems, I proposed the concept of "Maker Campus in the City" based on the future learning and production pattern. In the downtown area, the reconstruction of an history building area bring new vitality to the original blocks.

Innovation as the theme, with the standard of future architecture, I want to build a cultural landmark in Beijing hutong cluster. The multicultural atmosphere of Beijing attracts a large number of people from home and abroad to seek an ideal office place. The project considers the energy saving standard of green buildings and provides an innovative form of future office space.

Invention has not only occurred in expensive experimental equipments of university or research institution, also not only belongs to one of the few professional scientific research personnel, and should have the opportunity to done by anyone and anywhere. The cre ative commonage type university crowd gathered in the big cities to awaken the consciousness of lifelong learning. To keep old buildings concession characteristic by reserving cross wall.Implanting new group pattern ,planing partitional and gradually evolved, which brings new vitality to the tradition and imparts fresh life to the modern city.

PROJECT 1: HISTORICAL CITY METABOLISM Maker campus in the city

METABOLISM

Metabolism believes that cities and buildings are not static, and that it is a dynamic process like biological metabolism. Time factors should be introduced in cities and buildings, and the cycle of each factor should be clarified. On the long-term factors, the factors of the movable and short cycle should be installed. The site is the one of Tianjin’s iconic landmarks, the CBD of the city center. The area is not big, but the fame is not only familiar to everyone in Tianjin, but also famous throughout the country. Even some foreigners come to Tianjin to go there to find the dreams of the past. It is the Champs Elysees in China.

HISTORIC DISTRICT IN CITY Yangfuyin Road is a street in the middle of Tianjin city ,which was built in 1918, in the heart of the French concession. It embarks on the combination of historical significance with the western culture and Chinese traditional and regional culture. However,The broken old buildings and patchy public services made the urban center of shortage without using effectively. The original culture and memory are under threat.

ICONIC TOWER Jin Tower is a iconic in Tianjin city nearing HaiHe River.

NICE STREET SCALE Yang Fu Yin Road still holds some residents having a nice street scale.

TWO FLOORS CROSSING THE STREET The old building is built in the French cocession period ,resvered the style of that time.

PROJECT 2: LOW-CARBON & ENERGY-SAVING URBAN DESIGN Year : 2017 4 months project Datong Zero Carbon Innovation Park

BACKGROUND

STRATEGY OVERLAY: LIVEABLE CITIES

ZCIP+

Liveability is formed at the interface between the colours. Liveability is not alone climate adaptation or a bench in the park, but the feeling that arises when your surrounding environment encourages you to stay. A sudden feeling of well being and energy, that cannot be credited to a single object but to the package. We actively design liveable urban environments.

RED: ENERGY Energy infrastructure and energy efficient technologies applied to urban and plot scale

GREY: MOBILITY Mobility is infrastructure as well as the behaviour of pedestrians, bicyclists, cars and public transport. Mobility is also viewed as a catalyst or barrier to social life

GREEN: URBAN SPACE Urban spaces are buildings, public and commercial spaces in the city as well as parks and recreational spaces, and how they are all used or not used by people. Datong is one of the largest coal energy bases in China, the national heavy chemical energy base, the midpoint of Shenfu, Zhungeer Emerging Energy District and the BeijingTianjin-Tang Industrial Zone. Known as "Phoenix City" and "China Coal Capital". The transformation of the new era has put forward the following needs to the land, creating a green low-carbon park, moving from low carbon to zero carbon, creating an iconic future building within the plot. So this is a very big challenge, and we need to consider the zero carbon problem from different levels of planning and massing and facade.

BLUE: WATER Water infrastructure, climate adaptation and cloudburst management.

CO2 EMIS DATAS & TARGETS

APPROACH

Technical proposal for site energy system

Low-carbon traffic target in the plot

Water resources and sponge city

• Electricity demand to be covered 100% by solar panel (yearly basis)

• No cars within plot

Water Resource • Water consumption std. 250.000 m3/y for the future Plot A design • High wish for grey water recycling

• Apply smart grid technologies

• Soft mobility corridor between university, public and cultural institutions

• Apply on-site small scale solar heating plant and heat storage facilities to complement with CHP heating supply

• Underground parking with e-chargers and create changing rooms in the buildings for bike commuters

• Reduce energy consumption by applying smart building design principles and passive technologies

• Transform the Xingyun Street to a multimodal mobility link between the cultural and the administrative centers

Wastewater • No current grey water recycling in TYG City Gov. • Buildings and Energy No 1 Building

EXISTING TERRAIN CROSS SECTIONS The site terrain elevation is generally high in north, low in the south and high in the centre of the site. During the survey, the elevation of each exploration point was between 1064.43 and 1073.13, giving a relative height difference of 8.70 m.

SPONGE SOLUTION FOR THE SITE Storm water runoff should be captured in green low elevation areas, by modifying the terrain to slope away from buildings towards green sinks at lower elevation.

GREEN ROOF

SOLAR PANELS Green roof decrease heating and cooling demand; protect top of building, extend roof building material life; decrease city heat island effect; reduce atmospheric dust and purify the air; also can reduce the storm water run off, form an kind of entertainment and leisure place According to Datong official Sponge City Standard, office buildings should have 8 – 10% green roof area Since 88% roof area will be PV panel position, green roof can be placed on the rest 12% roof area, it meets the criteria of Datong official green roof demand Sketch on right shows the green roof position

Mean annual amount of direct solar radiation is 5882MJ/m2. Solar resource optimal for PV 22560 m2 solar panel (photoelectric transformation efficiency ) can provide 30% renewable energy on-site According to our conceptual design, the site has 24000 m2 roof area, that there is enough roof space for solar panel Sketch on right shows the solar panel place position on roof based on the ECOTECH analysis

LIVABILITY IN BEIJING For the city, livability is not because we build landscape decoration, it is so simple to enclose public space, it needs to be tailored, it needs planning and design, and it needs urban renewal. Beijing has a livability suitable for the city of Beijing. For example, the transformation of our Qinglong ring, with reference to the livable experience of Copenhagen, we have made a livable transformation of Hutong. In the alley of the corridor space, we need to improve the utilization rate of the land, protect the inheritance of history and culture, solve the problem of parking in the hutong, make rational use of the public space, mix the gray, green and blue, and integrate various factors to create a community. space.

SKETCH - CONCEPT

CULTURE CONCEPT

FOREST GALLERY The Trees and the corridor, the most typical and most necessary element in Chinese traditional gardens, they embody the wisdom of traditional Chinese gardens. We have been thinking about how to use modern design language to echo the cultural tradition. In this scheme, we hope the forest, combined with the walking corridor, forming a natural gallery with a canopy, and the trunk serves as the boundary of the corridor to create an ecological corridor and urban green lungs. At the same time, taking the walking as a clue, the route is interspersed with various interesting stay spaces to serve people of different ages, providing the public with a platform that can be visited, stay, enjoy, and socialize.

SKETCH - CONCEPT

SKETCH - CONCEPT

The main entrance to the park should have an iconic cultural structure.

The site contains a number of area that serve as a flood buffer for sponge cities.

We will build a landscape feeling like a slim white mountain in the green wave.

EVENT & ACTIVITIES

SKETCH - CONCEPT

CULTURE CONCEPT

ARCH BRIDGE This case break out of the traditional thinking mode and solve the problem from another aspect. Through calculation, we hope to change the underground to a ground parking building. The ecological green deconstruction of completely natural ventilation and lighting . Surrounding the playground is a U-shaped structure, and the roof is made into a fun linear space for people to relax. The curve-like trails are used to extend the distance, and various small venues and green nodes are created on the route for people to rest. The overhead U-shaped deconstruction provides a cool event square in the summer and a rainy day to adapt to different climate changes.

SKETCH - CONCEPT

SKETCH - CONCEPT

The whole u-shaped huge-structure classifies the circulation into two vertical levels, which enriches the space of the city.

The pavilions in the park grow organically with the topography.
