Time Traveller’s Mall

The site locates in the eastern part of the historical block of Mingqing Street, Liulin, Shanxi Province, China. Because there are some reserved buildings in the site and the space is very limited, only the building facade and internal space of the site are transformed. Based on the concept of time travel, this design aims to design horizontally and vertically according to the spatial scale characteristics of commercial buildings in different aras, and bring different spatial experience to people layer by layer. At the same time, the historical interface of old buildings is preserved to a certain extent, as to arouse people's common memory.

Memories Square of Urban Village The expansion of the city caused the villages in the city to appear and then make them disappear. The selected base of the project was once a prosperous urban village. Due to its superior geographical position, the entire urban village was eventually pushed into a flat land and developed into a high-rise residential community. Every inch of land has been capitalized by the developer, and the life of the original villagers was compressed into a high-rise residence, and the rest of the large number of houses and parking lots were sold as commodities. The design aims to commemorate the traditional urban customs and the traditional customs of the village in the city, and to provide the possibility for the village residents to continue their previous habits and customs in the new living space.

SITE LOCATION

a. Overview Qianbeitun is located at the west end of Yingze Bridge in Taiyuan City. It starts from Binhe West Road in the east, Taiyuan University of Technology in the west, Huyu River in the south, and Yumen River in the north. It is the main thoroughfare of Yingze West Street. The center of the political, economic and cultural activities of the Berlin area was a typical urban village before the renovation. There are 350 households in the whole community, with a total population of more than 1,680 people and a floating population of about 10,000. The total land area is 147,392 square meters, and the per capita land is 76.2 ㎡ . Under the condition of the original urban village, the government document “133 ㎡ per capita” , the difference is 56.8 ㎡

c. Some special phenomena existed The former Qianbeitun Wenxingyuan is closer to the author school, and there is a small and medium-sized supermarket in the community planning, which is a supermarket close to the school. After the author’s observation of the community for a certain period of time, the urban village reconstruction The presented community atmosphere, and the current general cell form a completely different scene. 1. For example, villagers in one or several buildings may know each other. In the community, in the elevators, there are often scenes of villagers talking and greetings. Even for foreign tenants, they are happy to talk a few words. 2. Even if the building becomes a community, they still retain a little traditional custom activities, such as the April 18th (Lunar Calendar), the temple fair, and the stage. b. Characteristics Due to the close proximity to Taiyuan University of Technology, it was mainly composed of a large number of low-rent housing and commercial buildings. The village has a large number of young migrants who are prosperous. Since August 2011, the former Qianbeitun Village has started the whole village demolition work, and it was mostly completed in 2015. The entire former Qianbeitun was transformed into a residential complex with high-rise buildings. A city road was built in the middle called Qianbei Road. The villagers lived in the 8,9,10 building of Wenxingyuan, the converted community. At present, only the resettlement building is occupied by the villagers, and other buildings are still undergoing closing work. Living in other buildings .The room is still in the sale stage, and its house price is in the middle of the housing prices in Taiyuan. 12

In order to make the construction of the shelf flexible, simple and space-saving, lightweight materials such as perforated aluminum plate, acrylic plate, glass, and three-proof cloth are used as the paving and covering materials for the bracket (white stainless steel material). Concrete and wood are the main materials of the four-story building on the east side of the site. These two materials are closer to the life of the villagers and have a sense of returning to the truth.

When the plaza holds temple fairs or other activities, the simple shelves will be set up so that the villagers in the village can watch the temples/activities. The 1F on the simple shelves can be used for parking of motor vehicles and non-motor vehicles. On both sides of the parking are shops which can provide food, drinks, etc. to people who visit temple fairs. 2F can be used as a stand or rest area for performances or temple fairs, 3F is the exhibition sales area, 4F is the leisure hammock area, and 5F is the soilless planting area. When there are no temple fairs or other activities in the square, the simple shelves will be dismantled and placed in the first floor storage room at the back of the square. The shelves on both sides of the 1F parking lot will not have to be disassembled, so that the surrounding residents can have breakfast here during the day. At night, you can enjoy the activities of playing cards, chatting and so on. In the upper part of the shelf, there are plants that can be cultivated without soil, beautifying the square, and in the aisle next to the shelf. People can also do some physical exercise.

Forest Rangers' House Considering Nepal’s hilling forest environment, the only two materials which could be used are ropes and local cloth. Some key features of the designed house should be: light-weight, which means no ground work needed; simple, which means everyone could construct themselves everywhere; sustainable, which means no disturb to the nature. Thus, we come across an idea: let us carry ropes and cloth only to the site, and construct an air-camp semi-permanent house. Nature has already provide us a firm and effective structure – the spider web, to ‘float’ the weight. If spiders could build their homes among grass, at the corner and between tree branches, we could also mimic their structure and behavior to construct our houses between trees.

Nature has already provide us a firm and effective structure – the spider web, to ‘float’ the weight. If spiders could build their homes among grass, at the corner and between tree branches, we could also mimic their structure and behavior to construct our houses between trees. One species of all spiders, called Achaearanea globispira, attracts us due to its special overhanging habitants. The retreat is a narrow, silken tunnel and is protected by a double skin façade. The retreat is hanged by silk connected to the branches and is fixed by adding more silk connecting to fixed objects, like the ground. Moreover, the retreat could provide well-managed ventilation and stable thermal environment, which just match our target to build a sustainable tiny house.
