Parade to Showcase What’s Hot in Home Building AHBA Presents the 55th Annual Parade of Homes The Acadian Home Builders Association (AHBA) is proud to present the 55th Annual Parade of Homes showcasing the latest in home building design and products. This year’s event will feature 34 newly constructed homes in 24 subdivisions in Lafayette and the surrounding cities, all built by state-licensed AHBA builder members. The Parade of Homes will be held on Saturdays & Sundays, April 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Houses included in the Parade exhibit the hottest trends in architecture, floor plans, building materials, and amenities. Architectural styles range from modern to Mediterranean, French Country to Caribbean. Some homes are also furnished by local interior designers, showcasing on trend art, furniture and accessories. Square footage and prices range from starter homes to palatial estates. This event is the perfect opportunity to see what’s new in home building, whether you are in the market to build or buy or are just curious. Parade homes are staffed by the builders and their real estate professionals, so it’s also a great chance to ask questions about creating or finding your dream home. The Parade of Homes is a self-guided tour where
ticket holders can view as many homes as they like in any order they choose. Tickets are just $10 each and include the official Parade of Homes Guide Book, which contains pictures and descriptions of each home, builder profiles, and a map. They are good for all four days of the event, so you have plenty of time to visit all of the houses. Tickets for the Parade of Homes are available during regular business hours at Lafayette locations of Doug Ashy Building Materials and at Home Bank branches in Lafayette, Carencro & Broussard. A: The Truth-in-Lending Act requires most lenders to disclose to you (the borrower), the terms and costs of its loan plans. In general, the Truth-in-Lending Act applies to individual and businesses that offer or extend credit to consumers, assuming the credit is subject to a finance charge or is payable by a written agreement in more than four installments. The Truthin-Lending Act applies if the credit is primarily for personal or household purposes and if the loan is for more than $25,000 or is secured by an interest in real property. You need to be able to compare the cost of borrowing to paying cash, and the costs of borrowing from different lenders. To ensure that consumers can do that, the federal government requires lenders to disclose certain costs and terms of their loans. The terms and costs that the lender must disclose include the annual percentage rate (APR), points and fees, the total of the principal amount being financed, and the terms of the loan, including the payment due date, whether there is a penalty for prepayment, and late payment fees. The Truth-in-Lending Act also requires lenders to disclose the total amount of finance charges, whether or not the loan is assumable, the loan application fee, and any annual or one-time service fees. If the loan is a variable-rate loan, the lender must disclose the features of the loan, including the highest rate the lender can charge over the life of the loan, how the interest rate is calculated, and your resulting monthly payment.

But if you want to know that you are getting the best deal, you will have to take the time to educate yourself and shop around. A good place to start is the internet. Several websites have basic refinancing information, and some lenders will even give you a Preliminary rate quote on line. In addition to websites of private lending institutions, you also might want to take a look at freddiemac.com and fanniemae.com. Both are federally chartered financial institutions that provide mortgage funds to lenders. Most local newspapers also provide a sampling of mortgage rates offered by various local lenders; this is usually in Sunday’s paper, in the real estate section.
