Buyers Prefer New Homes in the Suburbs

By Mark Gallagher, President Acadian Home Builders Association A majority of home buyers prefer a new home to an existing one, and 65% want that home to be in the suburbs, according to research and surveys conducted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

Among the specific amenities that home buyers want, a separate laundry room tops the list of must-haves across all income groups. Energyefficient features like low-E windows, Energy Starrated appliances, ceiling fans and programmable thermostats are also at the top of buyers’ wish lists.

Damage to the rental car would fall under the car company’s insurance first and depending on the extent of the damage, you may not have to make a claim on your own insurance.

Also, keep in mind that you may automatically receive rental car coverage if you use a certain credit card to pay for the rental.

You should check with your credit card company to see if your card affords you this type of additional coverage. And, if you are renting in another country, it is always a good idea to pay for the extra insurance.

Q: WHAT EXACTLY IS CHILD SUPPORT SUPPOSED TO COVER? IS IT JUST MEANT TO COVER FOOD, CLOTHING, AND HOUSEHOLD NEEDS, OR IS IT ALSO EXPECTED TO COVER RELATED EXPENSES LIKE AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES? I PAY $600 IN CHILD SUPPORT EACH MONTH, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE MY EX-WIFE IS ALWAYS ASKING FOR SOMETHING MORE TO PAY FOR THINGS LIKE DANCE CLASSES AND SOCCER. A: Basically, child support is intended to assist the domiciliary parent in paying for all of the children’s reasonably necessary living expenses. Those expenses are not limited to just food, clothing and housing. They also include other expenses that may be incurred in raising the child. Often a child support award will include day care costs, extraordinary medical expenses and things of that nature. The level of support varies depending on the particular child’s age and needs and the parents’ income.

The Louisiana Legislature has set statutory guidelines for the dollar amount of child support in Louisiana. There are also several factors the court takes into consideration when setting the amount of child support.

Some of these factors include: (1) the number of children; (2) the ability of the parents to contribute to the support of the child or children; (3) whether the parents have automobiles, housing or other benefits that are furnished by their employer or third party; and (4) special or extraordinary educational, medical, health care or other expenses of the children. The main goal is to do what is in the best interest of the child, and courts are supposed to keep this in mind at all times.
