Editor’s Letter

Welcome to 2018 queens it’s a new year, new opportunities, and a new chapter in your life.

JAN 2018

Last year was the start of Queener magazine, this year we are stepping up and out. What a journey this has been with starting a magazine and working with women in different areas. As for myself being blessed with the opportunity to bring women together is one of my main purposes for this magazine. As women we don’t stand together as we should, but when we do amazing work is made. I have seen women with similar passions network and build relationships with one another.I am blessed to be able to get to know each woman I feature and learn why they do what they do. I was touched to hear some of the hardships these women have overcome. This magazine is more than these women being featured it is about the lives we impact with telling each of these women stories.

I want my readers to be inspired and touched by testimonies. We all have a story to share that can help someone who is where we were. The journey you’re on is bigger than you, so be blessed with your setbacks and detours along the way. This is more than a magazine this is a platform to show women in the light where they deserve. Each one of these women has been tested on their journey, but kept going. No matter what obstacles come our way be bold, be brave and have faith that you’ll get through it.I hope you enjoy Issue II see you all in April.

QUEENSMITTY My name is Kayla, MOTHER, student, and a service member. I have been natural since August of 2014 I decided to go natural after many years of heat damage it was time for a change. . My hair curl type is 3c4a so my curls are tight but extremely soft when dry it becomes thick and coarse. 4a is a more coarse curl pattern. I classify under both.

What kinds of Products are best for your texture hair ?

Products that I have fallen in love with Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils line. My go to products from that line are the Oh So Clean Shampoo, In Control Conditioner, and the Curl La La moisturizer which can be used for braid outs, twist outs, and bantu knots. My favorite leave in conditioner is by Mielle Organics Pomegrante and Honey line and I also love the Twisting Soufflé . Keeping my hair HYDRATED WATER IS MY BESTFRIEND. People forget that step its not only the products that matter but making sure you hair is hydrated with water. You don’t have to drown your hair with water. Make sure you don’t forget it then apply your products. My go to Co Wash is by LOTTA BODY cheap and inexpensive co wash. I do not shampoo my hair every wash day to prevent stripping my hair of its natural oils. A CoWash is not as harsh as regular shampoo. My favorite gel is the Eco Style Black Castor & Flaxseed Gel. It doesn’t flake in my hair and my hair feel so soft after applying it. My favorite Edge Control it’s a tie between the MANE CHOICE, and BEESWAX edge control. They are both amazing.

TIPS 1 Deep conditioning your hair every week is a must. 2 Detangle your hair while wet or with some type of detangling product to avoid breakage. 3 Trim your ends or allow a professional to.

Quick Date Night Hair Style

Apply leave in conditioner to your hair as a moisturizer. Use the comb to create middle or side part. (I prefer a Middle Part for this look)Apply the gel to your hair and begin to smooth out your hair with a brush making sure each side of your hair is smoothed out to put in a ponytail. Secure your hair in a ponytail with the hair ties and make a small bun.

Natural Hair 101

Products Needed: Leave in Conditioner Gel Comb Weave ( I used synthetic hair SENSUAL COLLECTION SUPER WAVE 1B) Hair ties at least 3-4 Bobby Pins Brush

Furthermore, she is not limited to the TriState area, as she is very well traveled and cultured. This has allowed her talent to transcend beyond color, tone, and shape. Her travels have given her the opportunity to experience and acquire skill of different techniques suited for any skin tone, feature, or facial shape.

The goal behind MakeupByMika is to ensure that each client feels like the best version of themselves from start to finish. Her mantra, “it’s more than just a makeup application; it’s a feeling and an experience”, reigns true with the reaction of each client’s results.

How to do a quick date night look?

What kind of primer should I use if my skin is oily? Being a victim of oily skin myself, I have been through hell and back trying different primers that will subdue my excessive oil and allow my makeup application to flourish throughout the day. My secret weapon that I use for my oily skin is Milk if Magnesia the original formula! That’s right, I said it! I use the constipation relief medication as a face primer!

3

A great skin care product for most skin types (normal, oily, combination) is the Biore Deep Charcoal Cleanser. Not only is it affordable at $6 on average but it works like a charm. This deep pore cleanser de-clogs your pores, removing dirt and oil, leaving you with fresh clean skin. I use this product daily for my pore up keep.

One important beauty occasion that we sometimes overlook are Date Nights! Regardless of if you’re usually a simplistic girl or a everyday glam chick, date nights are a great occasion to beat your face. On my YouTube, www.Youtube.com/ MakeupByMikaa1, I have a great quick date night look that I created especially for a daytime to nighttime date that my man and I went on. It was soft enough for my more natural babes yet

What’s a good skin care product/products to keep my skin intact for the perfect look?

How do I figure out my foundation color? The best way I would advise someone in figuring out their foundation color is to test the perspective shade in-store before purchase and match it to your face, chest and back of your hand.
