Open day By Tishya Verma As you might know, Open Day was on the 20th of August at school and we had a blast. We had 1,400 people come over to the open day. QMC helped the Parents' Association, Foundation Trust, Phoenix Football, Make-awish and WFA. We raised $440 dollars by selling candy floss which was for our MakeA- Wish charity partner. People set up stalls, debates, merchandise, food trucks and face painting. There were also workshops of all the subjects. The Wellington Free Ambulance came over and taught us CPR. An extra special quest on the open day was that on the front gate we had little passport to give out and it would show the places that you should go and if you went to all of them you would get a prize. The prizes were merch like a beanie, bags and much more. A big surprise in the open day was a raffle to win a QMC oodie. QMC also had fun activities for each language, French, Spanish, Japanese, Maori and Chinese, in the Lower Hobson. There were activities like origami, chopsticks race, and make your own crepes. The Junior School presented an amazing performance with their instruments in the old hall and the Kapa Haka group did a fantastic performance to represent there school. We had fun sports games like fencing and rugby in the Hobson gym. Outside on the front lawn was a football centre with a ASB mascot.

Paper Cranes at QMC Within the first day of crane making the paper supplied to classes was used up and people began making cranes out of scrap paper. Things became very competitive and people took their buckets of cranes everywhere or locked them in lockers, after rumors of crane stealing spread.

By Isabelle Mak and Ana Roche-Madhar On the 30th of July, Hannah Wilson and Yui Uematsu announced that for the CAS project that with the help of the school, they were going to make 500 paper cranes for the Hiroshima Peace Memorial in Japan.

Students were folding cranes during class annoyed teachers had to confiscate the cranes. One teacher struck a deal with their students so that half the lesson could be learning and the other half was crane making. The teacher described it as a "Ford Manufacturing Line".

with buckets and buckets of cranes handed in to Hannah and Yui. With the help of some Year 11s, Hannah and Yui counted the cranes. They counted 8,095 cranes which well surpassed Yui and Hannah's goal. Congratulations to 8BK on their win!

The competition finished on the 4th of August.

78 years ago in 1945, United States forces dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima to try end World War II. 78,000 people were killed instantly and in the aftermath of the bombing killed more. To get people excited and participating, Yui and Hannah announced a crane making competition. The form class with the most cranes would get a cake. Soon a crane making frenzy began.

Thank you to Yui Uematsu and Hannah Wilson for organising this fun event and sending the photos

Chandrayaan 3 By Sanishka Chakkapalli

Chandrayaan 3 is a moon exploration mission. In it they have sent a lander and a rover to the south pole of the moon. The objective of Chandrayaan is to explore the moon to find the availability of oxygen and water. How it works is that the rover would explore the south pole of the moon. Then it would send it’s information that it found to the lander. After that, the lander would send information to the orbiter/satellite, and finally, the information would be sent back to the earth, specifically Rover Diagram

Lander Diagram to the Indian Space Research Organization, more commonly known as ISRO. In the mission Chandrayaan 2, they managed to send a satellite, lander and a rover to the moon. Unfortunately, the soft landing had failed, but the satellite was still there. So ISRO launched Chandrayaan 3 to launch the lander and the rover on the moon. Chandrayaan means travel to the moon. The lander’s name is Vikram and the rover’s name is Pragyan.

Keeper of the Lost Cities

Twelve-year-old Sophie has never quite fit in. She’s skipped multiple grades, doesn’t connect with the older kids at school and she’s not comfortable with her family. The reason? Sophie’s a Telepath, someone who can read minds. No one knows her secret—at least, that’s what she thinks… But the day Sophie meets Fitz, a mysterious (and adorable) boy, she learns she’s not alone. He’s a Telepath too, and it turns out the reason she has never felt at home is that, well…she isn’t. Fitz opens Sophie’s eyes to a shocking truth, and she is forced to leave behind her family for a new life in a place. This is one of the most amazing series I've ever read, I think that its really cool and a lot of people have been talking constantly about it, it's definitly worth a try.

Creative Writing By Chloe Moreham-Smith Lighthouse

You are my lighthouse, I am the ship. When things are at their darkest, Your light always guides me, Without you I would be lost at sea. Even during times when I do not need you, I know that I will, and if I ever do, You will be right there, showing my path. Your light shines for me and I can feel so much love in it.

My life is a playlist It is full of crescendos and quiet moments Highs and lows One day it will end The music will stop playing But right now I hear the beats of the music Mingling with the beats of my heart Just when I think I’ve got a hold of the rhythm The track changes And I’m forced to try and find the new beat One day I will stop trying to control it so much And just let the music flow As I have less control than I would like to admit So maybe I’ll just enjoy it while I can
