The Engineering Communication Program in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Queen’s University, is soliciting applications from suitably qualified candidates for Academic Assistant positions for the Fall/Winter terms of the 2010-2011 session. The Engineering Communication Program delivers written and spoken communication courses to engineering departments. The program supports other technical writing initiatives in the Faculty, including first-year engineering courses. Courses will be assigned by the Program Associate based on the successful applicants’ qualifications. Academic Assistant Positions: Responsibilities include holding in-class tutorials in written and spoken communications skills, reviewing and marking assignments, administering attendance and grades, and other responsibilities the Program Associate may assign. Workshop material will be provided. Anticipated maximum average workload is 14 hours per week over 26 weeks. Lower workloads are possible (to average of 4 hours/week). Qualifications: An undergraduate degree (or equivalent) and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in English is required. Experience in technical or scientific communication is preferred. Other applicants with relevant background and experience will be considered. Prior teaching or tutoring engineering communications skills will be considered an asset. Applications should include a complete and current resume or curriculum vitae and the names and contact details of two referees who may be contacted. A statement of teaching experience and other relevant materials such as written reports or student evaluations that the candidate wishes to submit for consideration will also be accepted.
