Bowls Queensland HP Program Percentage Shots Training Module
BQ High Performance program
Percentage Shot Modules: The Percentage shot modules can assist athletes with developing knowledge and having a clearer understanding of what is required when confronted with different situations during competition and enable players to determine what shot to play. This module has been designed to assist athletes with assessing their own ability reading and calling a shot in a controlled environment. Every situation in these modules could not be covered due to the many different situations and finishing positions of the bowls during competition, but the module is aimed to make the individual think about the current head result outcomes. (Head definition: the jack and any bowls which have come to rest within the boundaries of the rink of play and are not dead) Members in a side/team have roles and a responsibility to develop the match skills required to fulfill each individual position in a side. The side will benefit along with the individuals who wish to learn other skills involved in the sport. The rationale behind the Percentage shot modules is creating increased knowledge of what shot to call or play during competition. Calling or playing a shot is subjective in match situations and depends on the circumstances that are presented (wind, pace of green, individual strengths and weaknesses to play a shot, score board pressure, etc). With education as the main objective, individuals can build a clear aim and understanding what they want to achieve when calling or playing a shot in competition. Bowls Queensland’s High Performance area has established this program to be of benefit and be utilised across the entire state. To reach the highest level we can look forward to developing programs as percentage shots dealing with any situation that is presented. For a bowler to progress their skills in the game, the program needs to have the view towards education in mind to assist development and moving towards improving athletes in the sport.
