Breeze Enters Urban Corridor is an exploration into 12 tone serialism. This means that throughout the composition, the pitches used are always made up of the same ordered set of all twelve notes, which must be exhausted before any note is repeated. Additionally, the set may be manipulated by inverting intervals, reversing it, and beginning on a different note. I was inspired by my commute to the train station as well as walking through Brisbane to express my discomfort and frustration at the poor urban planning and car dependant infrastructure that result in a very unpleasant and sometimes dangerous pedestrian experience. When writing this piece in a way I undermined the spirit of 12 tone serialism; rather than using the technique to create an atonal piece, I instead found it interesting to search for the tonal relationships I can find within the restrictions of 12 tone.
