THE FASHIONABLE SET in Palm Beach have been following the chicest trends since Dina Merrill, Rita Hayward, and Lilly Pulitzer graced the society pages. Wind swept hair styles, oversized sunglasses, colorful shifts and sherbet-colored, narrow-legged pants are a few of the iconic styles that made these international favorites the ones to watch year after year. In fact, their influence was so great, women today continue to harken back to those days in order to imitate what has become the true essence of Palm Beach style.

This fall, count on many of these past trends to appear once again on the chicest of PB residents. According to Karen Murray, statuesque owner of FIVESTORY (a clothing and accessories store with locations in New York and Palm Beach), whose customers rely heavily on her for both daytime and evening wardrobes, “Palm Beach will be all about color and in every category. At this point all different types of knitwear have bright fun color, as do florals with patterns and prints looking a bit bolder, larger, and even more abstract than ever before. From Balmain and Etro, to Jason Wu and Victoria Beckham, many brands will be seen at the most important events in town, day or night.” Across the street, at the

Michelle Farmer Boutique, the store’s namesake owner agrees. “This fall is about drama, glamour, and bright pops of color. Everyone is back out on the town and looking for pieces that make them feel beautiful and alive! Weddings, luncheons, and parties will be in full swing and our customers will be looking for this season’s items in pops of pink, bright greens, reds, metallics, and soft lavenders. One of our favorite pieces for the fall is a strapless silk jumpsuit which can be worn for daytime or sexy suiting—dressed up or down by switching up accessories and jewelry.” English transplant, designer Catherine Prevost, has created an off-the-shoulder dress named after The Colony Hotel, the “Colony Navy”, which given its color can be worn throughout the season. “It doubles as a kimono or overcoat and works with a variety of obi self-tie belts that can be purchased at the boutique.” And if that doesn’t give you enough reason to celebrate, stop by the beautiful AERIN boutique on Via Mizner. Celebrating their 10th anniversary of the brand this fall, Aerin Lauder’s Palm Beach store will showcase this season’s “elevated simplicity with floral dresses, relaxed silhouettes, and a color palette that is soft and muted. These pretty pastels tie into the brand’s anniversary and heritage with history.”

There is something for everybody this season and whether you are looking for a casual daytime item or an evening statement piece, the rich stylish heritage of Palm Beach will be on full fashionable display. ◆
