Movement and Balance Fall 2018 Westport
Charlie Bluett: Movement and Balance Solo Artist Exhibition of New Works Quidley & Company - Westport, CT Opening October 27, 2018
The concepts for the show are a combination of the natural objects and outdoor environments that we see everyday and that hold our attention due the natural ethereality of the objects and vistas we are presented with, and the other world that is the city, the commute to and from, and the hustle and bustle and movement of people in the city streets, and the bridges and tunnels that connect this flow of people everyday, as part of their working lives, that through their colors, tones, shapes, barometric effects and human influences are truly beautiful to our eye, and bring us a sense of calm and balance whilst reminding us of the natural wonders that surround in our very busy lives. The ability to stop and spend time with these things and so bring us a sense of calm and peace when looking at the works in either of these two differing environments. I am trying to connect with the people who live there when they see the work, as they split their lives between the rush and bustle of their work lives in the City and the calm and peace of the town and coast they live in, and the balance between these two very contradictory environments and major parts of their lives, and I hope therefore they connect to the work they see. – Charlie Bluett
CHARLIE BLUETT (British, b. 1965) Charlie Bluett’s first publicly hung work was selected and hung in the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly, London England. This was followed by a number of solo and mixed exhibitions at Blaines, The Bloxham Galleries & Smith Street Gallery in London England and The British Young Masters exhibition in Fulham London. He was Born in England, and studied at the same college as Prince William and Harry, although a predecessor, at Eton College in England where he studied Fine Art. As reflected in his latest paintings, his output has been driven by his overriding passion for the enhancement of the process, and the flow and ebb of life, and the light and color of the everyday things he sees. He started as a professional artist in earnest in the early 90’s fascinated by the processes he uncovered as his work unravelled against the backdrop of his own private life and experiences. His works now hang in multiple Private & Corporate collections in The USA and Europe, such as Putnam Investments Corporate Art Collection and Payden & Rygel Financial Management amongst others. He is continually pushing the elements of his process. This search for surfaces, color and form, reflect the time and experiences which came to pass as he did so and mirror in his creative output as a result of this keen and single minded focus toward his art. His works contain elements that pay homage to the techniques and the deft touches of the Old Masters, blended with abstract expressionism and the colorfield painting of the contemporary names of our time. The changing surfaces, vibrant and ethereal color use, and the consistent subtle movement of form and mind within the works, is considered and yet fluid, challenging and yet totally at peace within itself, and reflect the beauty of the natural objects and vast and stunning natural environments of the USA he experiences in his everyday life. He currently works from his studio in Vermont where he lives with his wife and two children, part of the beautiful & inspirational Green Mountains of the North East Kingdom in The USA.
