“Scott Prior: New Works” Solo Artist Exhibition
Quidley & Company - Naples, FL Opening February 21, 2018 In the mid-1980’s, Scott Prior turned to family and his domestic surroundings as his primary inspiration. Working from life as well as from photographs, Prior depicts aspects of daily life in his paintings. His subjects, however, no matter how ordinary they may seem, take on a mythic and poetic quality. Prior captures the sense of intimacy that exists within the space of the everyday lives of the people he loves while revealing the beauty that can be found in even the simplest moments. His exhibition of New Works continues to celebrate the unique vision of this highly gifted and talented artist. The artist has said that: “It has been my belief that the painted intimacies of ordinary life must be recorded and celebrated.” Born in Exeter, New Hampshire, he received a BFA in printmaking from the University of Massachusetts in 1971. He has artwork in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the DeCordova Museum, the Danforth Museum, the Rose Art Museum and other major public and private collections. He has shown extensively in one-person and group shows in the United States and abroad; in 2001 he had a mid-career retrospective at the DeCordova Museum. Scott lives and works in Northampton, Massachusetts where he has been a resident since 1971.
