Gerrardo Pita: Recent Works
Willem de Kooning donated this image titled “Devil on a Keyboard” to the Rainbow Art Foundation in June 1976. The Rainbow Art Foundation is an organization which helps young and new printmakers. The R.A.F. has informed us that this is indeed a historical piece since de Kooning himself worked on it. The image was made into a nine color lithograph print in an edition of 70 signed and numbered prints. De Koon‐ ing then added the word Rainbow to the image and signed and numbered 125 pieces which is this edition.

Gerrardo Pita Spanish, b. 1950
Gerardo Pita, a Madrid-based world-class Realist painter, has exhibited internationally to critical acclaim since 1976. Pita was the long-time studio assistant to the Chilean Hy‐ perrealist painter Claudio Bravo and was closely associ‐ ated with Bravo until his death in 2011. Born in Madrid in 1950, Pita’s artistic vocation emerged early in his student years at the Spanish capital’s French Lyceum. His passion for drawing led to the study of archi‐ tecture, and in 1972, Pita devoted himself exclusively to painting. Pita’s first solo show was mounted at the Vandres Gallery, the Madrid gallery that continues to represent and exhibit the artist’s work today. For the last four decades, Pita’s work has been exhibited in individual and group shows from London to Tokyo to New York. Pita’s work includes portraiture, still life and landscapes, both rural and urban. Pita takes these subjects beyond photographic illusionism, imbuing them with an emo‐ tional charge and a visual intensity that create an enduring impression. His recent paintings, including unique depic‐ tions of skeins of wool, are unforgettable--brilliantly pre‐ cise, boldly colored, with a lush, painterly quality. Solo shows throughout Spain, England, and the United
States have strengthened Pita’s reputation and increased demand for his work on the art market. His paintings have been exhibited in group shows across the globe, including London, Madrid, Bilbao, New York, Boston, and Tokyo. His work is included in major public and private collec‐ tions, including, among others, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Exxon‐ Mobil Corpo‐ ration, and the Collection of Baron Hans Heinrich ThyssenBornemisza in Lugano, Switzerland.
