Close your eyes and hear the word
arctic . What do you imagine?
Snow? Expanses of white, stark and unrelenting? Yes, of course. Now picture an ice chunk, big as a glacial erratic, and imagine the shadow it casts in the late afternoon. Is it gray? With overtones of blue? Picture the sun coming up over dark clouds massed and waiting at the horizon, wearing purple shrouds. Think of wind patterns indenting the surface of snowfields, of sculpted curves in snow dunes catching light and shadow in patterns that change as the sun moves across the sky. Bare, sparkling, endless, minute—a landscape beautiful and selfsufficient. On first glance, the sweaters in this collection may not conjure Antartica, but we hope they reflect in color and pattern an Arctic we can imagine while we sit in warmth and listen to our needles ever so softly clicking.

PAM ALLEN Pam Allen has worked as a knitwear designer, editor at Interweave Knits, and creative director at Classic Elite Yarns. In 2010 she launched Quince & Co with the idea of sourcing fiber and spinning yarns in the US. The company began with four classic wool yarns in 37 colors. Today the ‘basics’ line comes in more than 60 colors and Quince now makes and sells twelve yarns originating in the US and two organic linen yarns from Italy. And there’s always an idea in the works. website: quinceandco.com ravelry: pamallen instagram: quinceandco
