Carta del Publisher Hola Quinceañeras, I am so excited to release our new summer and fall editions full of fun girly advice to make your dream party a reality! We have continued to have the opportunity to meet so many young girls like you all over Arizona. We have inspired confidence and self-worth amongst all of them through our fashion shows, expos and beauty pageants. Though we are sad to see Amy and Esmeralda, our previous cover girls go, I’m excited for you all to meet our newest cover girls Stephanie Sotelo and Marina Ortiz, they are both so fun loving and free-spirited! Being a cover girl not only allows you to represent the magazine and quinceaneras all over AZ, but it also opens so many doors for your future. Through out the past six months I am happy to say that our QM team has grown bigger and stronger than ever. In this magazine you will notice lots of new vendors as well as former ones who are eager and ready
to work hard for you. I would like to thank my right hand woman Emma Barrios, who has helped us grow so much. I can’t forget to mention all the hard work my team puts in behind the scenes that have allowed us to nurture and produce this project. You can expect to continue to see great things from us, our models, our vendors, and our events. Thank you for your support and remember that a quinceanera is a step in your woman-hood and one step closer to your future. Don’t forget to always carry yourself positively, with confidence and with respect for yourself. This can be reflected by the way you talk, who you spend time with, the way you dress, and even what you post on Facebook. Let your inner beauty shine this summer and always. Yours truly, Fran Chavez Quinceañeras Magazine Director

how to be Being a great photo subject is all about practice. With a little specific knowledge give in this page, you will conquer some of your issues, and become a fabulously photogenic person and hopefully better quinceanera pictures. SMILE LIKE A MODEL! But not with a “sticker smile”. Alos simle with you eyes. This combination makes a perfect expresión. Tap into your source of joy from within (by recalling a happy moment, picturing your beloved family pet) and let your eyes sparkle with brightness from this internal emotion. The rest of your face will follow. BONUS SMILE TIP from the world of modeling: To make your smile look symmetrical, put the tip of your tongue behind your front teeth when you smile.
JULY 2011–JAN 2012
SOFTEN YOUR STARE. Try not to stare too deeply into the camera. You want your focus to be soft, not intense. Pretend the photographer is an adorable puppy. (Aahw!) But don’t pet the photogrpaher! SHAKE IT UP.- During a long photo session, remember to shake yourself out to loosen up every once and a while. If you’re nervous, your facial muscles will tighten and your smile will look forced and fake. Close your eyes between portraits and take a deep breath before opening them again to help you relax. GET CONFORTABLE.- The more poise you have, the more likely you are to look natural and show your best smile. The most attractive pictures are a result of someone who is comfortable around the camera and knows exactly what they want. This can be learned. Practice your best smile in front of your mirror, so you can do it on command for the camera.
16
CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR BODY? Stand with one leg slightly in front of the other, by bending your knee and placing that foot a few inches in front of the other one). Angle your hips slightly towards that side. Put hands on hips, or keep them at sides, hands resting lightly on outer thighs. (If you are sitting, angle toward one side and rest hands on thighs). LEAN SLIGHTLY TOWARDS THE CAMERA. It adds interest, dimension, and a natural look to a photo. Think of having a long neck like a gazelle, and tilt your chin down just a bit to avoid the appearance of a double chin and also to prevent the camera from getting a view right up your nostrils. SOME PHOTOGRAPHERS SAY they get the best pictures when they tell their subject to look slightly above the lens, rather than directly at it. So give that a try. GET A FRIEND TO TAKE A BUNCH OF DIGITAL PHOTOS OF YOU, while you try out the tips above. Go over the shots and make notes about what you don’t like about them. Do look too serious or goofy? Do you tend to squint one eye? Then with that specific knowledge in mind, go back and take more photos, trying to correct for the stuff that bugged you. GIVEN TIME, you will hopefully conquer your issues, and become a fabulously photogenic person and hopefully better quinceanera pictures.

NEGOTIATE EVERYTHING! And walk away with the best deals. Quince Budget: how to negotiate with your vendors While steep discounts are unrealistic, there’s a good chance of getting a few extras thrown in. (Think an additional hour for your reception, or a champagne upgrade.) You just have to negotiate right. Here’s how.
ADOPT A FRIENDLY BUT FIRM DEMEANOR
Even if you’re working with the hottest vendor in town, there’s always room to negotiate, especially if there’s a good reason to reduce costs -- like having the quinceañera on a less-popular Friday night. Here are some more crucial pointers.
BE INDIFFERENT
KNOW THE MARKET
Find out what other vendors offer for the same price point, and use this as leverage. Ask about every single thing that’s included in your package. Then find out in advance what extras are going to cost -- and whether those costs can be waived.
STICK TO YOUR LIMIT
A vendor may be willing to cut you a deal as long as you agree to something additional -- for example, he might consent to give you an extra hour of shooting, but only if you have him take your engagement photos. What you need to ask yourself is whether this will actually cost you more in the end.
JULY 2011–JAN 2012
t abou k s A e singl y r e ev at’s h t g n thi n ded i e u l c n i ckag a p r you
22
There’s no harm in politely asking for a deal. If vendors are excited to work with you, they may be more willing to come up with creative solutions.
You need the vendor to believe that if he or she won’t meet your offer you will walk away. Consider collaborating with your fiance to employ the old good-cop-bad-cop routine. Practice makes perfect Try your hand negotiating at a flea market to see what talking style works for you.

Perhaps one of the most difficult times for a quinceanera is giving a speech. A speech is an important part of your quince, because everybody wants to listen to you speak. Therefore it’s important to be prepared so you won’t let your nerves get the best of you. If you have stage fright or problems speaking in front of large crowds, well just develop a short and sweet speech that both your friends and family could appreciate. So how can you develop this speech without the stress? Here’s some help to make your speech short, sweet, and memorable.

Keep your face and hair clean, wash your hands frequently, and keep them away from your face. Once you begin experiencing problems, take action to avoid lifetime scarring.

At an early age, a light moisturizer may be called for -- but do not use heavy creams made for dry skin. Choose a product that is formulated for light skin care maintenance and does not block your pores.
When you begin wearing eyeshadow, keep it light and use trendy metallics and shimmers. Eye shadow does not have to match your eyes, however earth tones (tan, brown, gray) are very complimentary to blue, brown and hazel eyes. hanc e ys to en e and a w y n re ma in car There a a practical sk the best in ? o d p ut girl to nd kee bring o tastic hat's a eauty a tips will help b d a fan l n a a r e tu c e a n s n e e r d h u fi T yo e. -con p routin od self make -u emember, go pression. tr im at first you, bu e a gre iv g e il sm

Foundation for teens is optional. You can always skip the foundation and use a concealer on your blemishes only. Lightly dust on some loose mineral powder over your entire face to even out your skin tone, control oil, and set the concealer.
