Remember Rubi? The quinceañera that invited everyone to her quince last year through a Youtube video? And by saying “everyone is invited” she didn’t realized that she would be having a guest list of 900,000 confirmed attendants!
Well, there is a better way to control who’s coming and who’s not. The best part about celebrating your quinceañera is having your closest family and friends there. Now it’s no secret that Latinos come from big families and where ever the party is, we’re there! It’s important to understand that you don’t need your cousin’s brother’s mother’s aunt’s neighbor there! It’s important to make sure that the people that matter most are there. It’s also essential that you maintain control of your guests and who comes in and out of your party. The best way to maintain control is to stay organized and have a well thought out plan.
QuinceanerasMagazine.com
Your guest list may be extensive if you come from an extremely big family and they live close or maybe the guest list is minimal due to having a smaller family, budget or lots people out of town etc. Although we wish we could invite everyone we know, or sometimes people invite themselves when they hear that you’re having a quinceañera, the reality is that you simply can not. There are various factors to consider when deciding how many invitations to not only be made, but also how many to hand out.

Having more or less people at your quince doesn’t decide how beautiful or fun it’s going to be, it just matters that the important people are there. There are lots of perks of having a smaller attendance like exclusivity, more money in the budget to direct towards decorations, or other luxuries like a photo booth, candy table or party favors (we’ll talk more about it later).
Ask yourself the following questions
to find the magic number: How many people does the budget allow? Remember you have to be able to seat and feed this amount of people _______________
What’s the capacity limit of your local? This is an important factor to consider when you’re choosing your location, that we will talk about more in detail later. There are certain laws and rules that will only allow a certain amount of people to be in a room due to safety and emergency situations. ___________________
The magic number of guests is ____________. The next step before you creating your invitations and inviting people is to create a guest list. A-Listers are VIP people that you and your parents really want to be there; something to consider is their spouse or significant others, children and members of their house hold. *Remember family comes first, we’ll make a list for friends and B Listers later.

EFFECTIVE WAYS TO KEEP.
CONTROL OF YOUR TIME
Sort your life as a teenager. Are friends important to be around at this time? Do you find yourself on the internet a lot? These tips are so helpful to get you in a time management discipline.
1.- Make a to-do list every day
Put the most important tasks at the top, even if they’re things you’re dreading, and tackle them first. Include things you want to do on your list too, so you have items you’re looking forward to. Try motivating yourself with a reward if you get to everything on your list.
2.- Keep your work with you
That way, if you find yourself with extra time—while on the train or bus or waiting for an appointment—you can get something done.
3.- Don’t be afraid to say no
It’s OK to say no if your friend asks you to go to a movie one night but you have a test the next morning. Instead, find a time that works for both of you and go see the movie then.
4.- Find your productive time
QuinceanerasMagazine.com
Are you a morning person or a night person? You’ll be more efficient if you work when you’re at your best.
5.- Create a dedicated study time
Set up a time devoted only to studying or homework. Shut off your phone and respond to calls or texts when your work is finished. Don’t check email or surf the Web (except when you need to for the work you’re doing) during this time either.
6.- Budget your time
Figure out how much time you usually spend on your activities and then create a weekly schedule to follow. Determine how much free time you have before you add any commitments. And don’t forget to schedule time to relax.
7.- Don’t get sidetracked
If you find yourself wasting time on unimportant things, stop, check your to-do list and get back to what’s at the top. Maybe you’re procrastinating because you’re not sure how to move forward on a school project. If that’s the problem, check with your teacher to clear things up so you can get moving.
8.- Get a good night’s sleep
12
Your brain needs rest to perform at its peak. If it’s time to sleep, list the things you still need to get done on the next day’s to-do list and go to bed.
PHOTOSHOOT PERFECTION
Open your eyes, start looking around, you’ll may find the perfect spot
Location is really important you don’t just want to do a photo session in your back yard. You want a place that will make you stand out and make the picture look amazing. I’m going to give you some suggestions to make that photo session amazing. You always want o look for natural lighting and open spaces like parks, Hotels with great view, deserts, a beach, lakes, and even neighborhoods could be great. Try to keep your eyes open when going out, you never know when you will see something you like. What I like to do is take a picture of the places I like and write down the address. I’m the type of person that always brings her camera, because you never know what can inspire you. Well girls I hope to see beautiful pictures on the page soon.
MakeUp
Let’s talk about what type of makeup you should wear to a photo shoot. They are many different makeup brands and so many makeup looks out there, so how are you ever going to choose? Well I start by looking at my outfit and the style that I want to show. When doing this you must always remember not to be matchy matchy , it does not look good. What I mean by that is if you have a pink dress don’t try to match your eye shadow with it. Instead try a basic color like brown, black, or even gray. Staying with natural colors can help bring out your eyes and accessories your dress. Make up can be a bit scary and sometime over whelming if you are not a pro; luckily we have professionals to help. Today you could pretty much find makeup artist anywhere. So if you are not sure how good you are with make up I suggest a makeup artist. Now if you feel like you could do it on your own I’m going to suggest some great products for photo shoots.
Product #1 foundation this product is very important. On the day of the photo
shoot you want to look flawless so you need something with full coverage try Mac face and body or Laura Mercier Silk crème foundation.
Product #2 Eye shadow this product is all about your preference. Drug stores today have great eye shadow pallets that can be use to make your eyes pop.
Product #3 and #4 are mascara and fake lashes these products will complete your eye look and make it great. Always remember that makeup is for enhancing your natural beauty and not to hide your flaws. So I hope this product list helps you look good the day of your photo shoot.

FACE EXPRESSION As many of you know we do a lot of photo shoots here at Quinceanera Magazine. So we know a thing or two about photo taking. Photo shoots can be a bit overwhelming and sometimes bad. While photo shoots can be glamorous they are hard work, specially if you don’t know how to pose or bring out your best feature. Now because this is a blog and not a video I’m going to try to explain it the best I can. Let’s jump start with your face. Make sure you are in a place with good lighting (the bathroom always works). Ask your mom or sister to take different pictures of you smiling. That’s how you’re going to determine which side is your best side. Make sure you also take a picture of different angles, and that way the next time you take a selfie you won’t have to go through a million.

EL PADRINO Don’t be shy, they are expecting you to ask.
As I’m sure you’ve noticed planning a quinceañera can get pricey. There are so many things to take in to account from the reception hall, to the dress, to the muñeca and jewelry. The best thing about the Hispanic culture and tradition is that whenever someone decides to have a big event like this or a wedding is that we can count on our family to contribute. In other words, your Padrinos. They contribute money or sponsorship that they don’t expect for it to be paid back. It’s a mutual understanding that in the future if they ever plan an event for themselves or their children, they can come to you and your family for help as well. It could be a little weird or sudden if you just call someone and say “Hi, give me money” right? If you make it weird or awkward, they will feel weird and awkward. Being a padrino is a big deal, not only are they contributing hard earned money, their time and also their word of commitmen
1.- First you would start by thanking
them for the special or important roles they have played in your life. Example: “Tio, I just wanted to thank you for being like a second father to me and always supporting me”.
2.- Second tell them you have decided
to have a quinceañera and would like their blessing. Example: “As you know, I turn 15 next year and I decided to celebrate with a quinceañera!”
QuinceanerasMagazine.com
3.- Third Ask for help. People are
more inclined to say yes, when you say the word help. Example: “Because you play such an important role in my life, I was wondering if I could count on for the _________________.
20
After they agree and say yes, ask what their budget is or how much money you can count on them for. Some may say I can do $300 towards the dress, or I can only do $100 towards the flowers. Any amount counts, and also helps you adjust your budget. Another option is if you come from a big family, you could ask each aunt and uncle or maybe cousins who are older for $100 donation each. If you get 15 people to say yes, that’s an extra $1,500! There could be situations where they might say no. We may never know exactly or understand someone’s financial situation. If they say no to contributing financially maybe they can help in other ways: decorating, setting up, or helping you finding vendors. Remember not to take it personal, they’re not saying no they don’t support you, they’re saying I just don’t have the money right now. For those that are able to help you financially and contribute, don’t just take their money and run. Keep them in the loop while you plan, for example, if an aunt is your madrina for the dress, let her know when you go shopping, invite her and make her feel like she is part of the planning.

PENSANDO EN DEJAR LA ESCUELA?
No lo hagas ! BY QUINCEANERA FOUNDATION
Te lo van a decir en la escuela, en tu casa, los amigos, el gobierno, la television, esta revista, tu novio, en la iglesia… Pero al final del dia esta decision es solo tuya. No te rindas!
7. Te ayuda a crecer de manera integral. Todo lo que deja de crecer,
empieza a morir.
Be a Good Dama By: Jessica Bahena
So, you were picked to be someone’s dama! Congratulations! You were chosen because you’re someone very special to them! Now you have some dama duties, getting your dress, practicing a dance, and showing up right? Right! The QUINCEANERA has a lot going on right now, lots of decisions to be made, lots of stress and maybe she’s a little nervous, and she could use a good wing-woman by her side! But besides doing the obvious, here are three ways you can be a good dama and she will love you even more!
Photo By: Aaron Martinez / San Diego
STAY POSITIVE: if she asks for your advice or tells you about how stressed she is about… be supportive, be a good listener and help her keep a cool head
Be drama free: don’t be the dramatic dama who doesn’t get along with the others or is always saying something negative. Remember it’s not about you this time.
QuinceanerasMagazine.com
Be someone she can count on: If you say you’re going to do something,
do it, even if it seems like a minor thing, keep your word and be responsible.
24
Don’t compete: Let someone else be the one getting all of the attention for once, this day is all about her, and yes you’re important too, but just try to blend in, just once!
DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN to make her feel special, hold her bouquet, fix her dress, hold her lip gloss, and tell her how beautiful she looks! That’s your job.

Pre-Quince
Photoshoot By: Jessica Bahena
WHEN YOU HIRE A PHOTOGRAPHER,
sometimes you think you only need him there for the day of your Quinceanera. However, you should ask him or her if they do individual photo shoots and see if they could include that in your package?
An individual photo shoot gives you the opportunity to dress up, have professional pictures outside of your dress (if you want) and you can use those pictures on your invitation or as part of your decorations.
QuinceanerasMagazine.com
The pictures don’t have to be anything formal, they can be playful, casual, and an important part of the experience to help prepare you for being in front of the camera that day. Schedule a couple of hours when you can go to their studio or a park and take a variety of pictures to choose from!
