Hello Everyone! It was a 8 years ago this September when our family officially launched the first Quinceañera Magazine® in the Bay Area. Since then, we have evolved from not only a Magazine, but also Expos, Miss Cover Girl Pageants and some of the most powerful websites in the industry, and we always do it with the same love and care that we had when we originally started this project.
Porque la vida es color Rosa!

The budget is a financial plan to stay with in the price range that your parents can afford. The initial budget number is a starting point for your parents to begin making financial arrangements.
• Fewer guests means more funds to use towards decorations and party gifts
Before you get ahead of yourself by looking up places for your reception, dresses and photographers, you and your parents should really sit down and talk about a planned budget. A budget is a planned amount of money that can be spent on your party. It could be that your parents have been saving for this day since you were 10 years old, or they just recently decided to start putting money aside. Remember that all Quinceañeras come in different sizes and budgets. Use the following Quinceañera spreadsheet as a tool to breakdown your budget and manage deposits

The Blueprint of Your Quince
It’s the moment of truth. Perhaps you have been mentally preparing for this special day ever since you can remember, gathering ideas and bits and pieces of things you liked from attending other quinces or maybe your parents gave you no choice but to have a Quinceañera because it’s the traditional thing to do. Either way, the time has come to gather all of your ideas and put the puzzle pieces together! Two of the best ways to stay stress free and organized, is to plan your event in a timely manner and to build a strong event team. The suggested time for planning a Quinceañera is 9-12 months, but it never hurts to start planning sooner.
If you’re running a little behind, then you have some catching up to do, you’ll just have to work quickly! In this chapter you will find a timeline that summarizes your tasks for the next year. Before a house or building is actually built, there is always a blueprint that serves as the initial plan, an initial plan with a specific design in mind before it goes into construction. Your party is going to be similar to that of laying the groundwork for the perfect building. You’ll have to sculpt every corner, pick out every tile and detail that goes in to making it unique. Your Quinceañera party will be a reflection of who you are and will showcase your creativity and style. These next few steps will really pave the way to start envisioning what it is that you would like.
Let’s work on the basics: Now that you and your parents have decided to celebrate your Quinceañera, the first step is to pick a date. Although it’s a celebration of your birthday, it doesn’t necessarily need to be on your specific birth date. It could be within a few months before or after. Do you prefer for it to be warmer or cooler outside? What season is it? Does it coincide with holidays, big sporting events, or with a time that will be hard for your guests to attend because of school and work?
Envision it:
Prepare yourself: Now that you have envisioned your celebration, it’s time to mentally prepare yourself for it. Knowing that the planning of your Quince will be an emotional roller coaster ride, this planner will help you lessen your level of stress. Celebrating this new chapter in your life comes with the privilege of having a party but also withthe expectation that you carry yourself in a lady-like manner. All eyes are on you and you never know who is watching, looking up to you or how much work is taking place behind the scenes to make this day extra special. Be kind. Be prepared.
Close your eyes and imagine walking into a party just for you. What color dress are you wearing? Are you indoors or outdoors? What kind of decorations are there? The date you choose should be a day that all of Is it modern or traditional? your guests can attend or make arrangements in Are there flowers? If so, what color are they? advance if they’re planning on traveling traveling What type of food is there? from far. Don’t get so caught up in the planning Is it very formal or casual? that you accidently schedule it on a National What’s that one thing you just NEED to have Holiday or major event. You need to be considat your party? erate of other people’s beliefs and special days.
Pick a day, any day:

WHERE TO SHOP FOR YOUR DRESS: There are stores that specialize in Quinceañera dresses and others that have a combination of wedding, Quinceañera and special event gowns. Here are the most popular places where you just might find your perfect dress. LOCAL BOUTIQUE: Most dress stores have many gowns in stock for you to try. They also have catalogs of dresses from where you can order. Many boutiques have in-store seamstresses that can tailormake a gown specifically to your liking. If this is something you choose to do, you be involved in the entire dressmaking process, from selecting the fabric to the style and embellishments. The advantage of getting your dress made at a local boutique is that it’s convenient for you to communicate with the designer directly. ONLINE: Shopping online is a relatively new way of finding a quince dress. When you browse a trusted site you have access to view every color and style by various designers, which are way more dresses that you can see at a local boutique. You can even view and order dresses from another country. You should have your measurements professionally taken before you purchase a dress online. This will eliminate the guessing work into filling out your dress size. Mass-Market Chains: Much like shopping online where you have a huge selection of dresses to view, mass-market chains also have large inventories of dresses. Every season they host sales events to make room for new inventory, which means big savings for you. online is having to guess your size, wait for it to be shipped and risk the idea of not liking it.
OTHER ALTERNATIVES: SEAMSTRESS: Many skilled seamstresses create quince gowns from the comfort of their own home. Since they don’t have to worry about the overhead costs of running a shop, their prices are typically lower than if you were buying a dress elsewhere. Designer: If you want a popular designer to create a custom gown for you, you need to research their prices. You should know that this type of quince dress is the most expensive and that it might take longer to receive once ordered—depending on the popularity of the designer. RENT A DRESS: there’s absolutely nothing wrong with borrowing a dress from a friend or family member. If they happen to have a dress that you absolutely love and that happens to fit you, or if you really don’t want to make a fuss over your dress, then perhaps this is the best option for you.

The Quinceañera dress is perhaps one of the most important traditions, very distinguishable and somehow everything ties back to the dress, the center of it all. The silhouette is standard ball gown princess style, but the necklines and sleeves are up to whatever you feel comfortable with. Traditionally the quince dress was white, to stand for purity, as the years progressed, there were colored pastel designs added to it and now it has progressed in to any and every color under the sun! It can have bling, embellishments, glitter, lace or even multiple colors and prints. Although there are many trends and prints that come and go, it’s important to remember that you don’t want to look back in 15 years and say what was I thinking?! Sometimes less is more and it’s all about the fit of the dress that makes it extra beautiful no matter how simple it is.
TIPS FOR SHOPPING ONLINE FOR YOUR QUINCEAÑERA DRESS. • Buy from an authorized retailer. Most brands provide clients a list of their authorized retailers. Look for it when shopping online. Not doing so may set you up for buying a counterfeit gown. • Pay close attention to the advertised price of a designer dress. If you see a strikingly low price on a website, it may be a counterfeit. • Do your research. Find out as much information as you can about the seller’s reputation. • Call the seller. Speak with a person over the phone and ask questions about the dress specifics and their ordering/shipping process. This will help you determine whether the business is legitimate. • Read the seller’s return and cancellation policies. Also look into any customer reviews and feedback. • Does the online seller have a physical store? If it does (and if possible), visit the shop with your parents to meet the seller in person.
CEREMONY AND VENUE LOCATIONS
The location for both your ceremony and reception play a vital role in setting the ambiance of your quinceañera. They are also important in helping execute the ideas you have for decoration and theme. Since both locations will depend greatly on whatever your budget allows, you’ll need to consider the benefits and disadvantages of each venue you visit. A few things to consider are distance, space capacity, special accommodations, rental permits and fees, outdoor/indoor spaces, décor limitations, additional costs.

Pros & Cons of Venue Locations A few of the most common places where you can host your quince are hotels, reception halls, restaurants and someone’s backyard. THERE ARE MANY OPTIONS AVAILABLE to you in terms of what you’ll ride in on the day of your quince. A limo, party bus, classic car and carriage are among the most popular. It is recommended that your transportation fit your party theme—but not required. When shopping for the perfect rental, make sure you’re dealing with licensed professionals and that they have all the necessary licenses required under the state they operate in.
QUESTIONS TO ASK THE LIMO COMPANY: What are your rates per event or hour? What kind of cars do you have available
for Quinceañeras?
What’s the capacity of your largest car? Do you offer a special package
for Quinceañera?
Is there a minimum of hours required? What is the cost for additional hours? Are there refreshments included? How much is required for the deposit? Are there any additional cost? What is the suggested tip for the driver? How will the driver be dressed? What happens if the limo is not on time? Do you have passengers insurance? Do you require an adult to ride with
the quince group? P.36

Flowers are used to share various emotions. We
Flower POWER
use them to show admiration, love and even regret. The power behind flowers is so strong that they’re able to express a true sentiment without you having to say a word. In the role of your Quinceañera, they can also be used to set the tone. Depending on the type of flower you choose and the way you select to have them displayed, they can either create a romantic, modern, and/or classic ambiance to your celebration. You can use them in your ceremony and in your reception decorations. And you’ll definitely use them in your natural Quinceañera bouquet, in your damas corsages and in your chambelanes boutonnieres.
Therefore, it’s important for you to decide what message you want your flowers to express. Scroll through the next pages to find advice and gather inspiration on the perfect flowers for your party.
Your quinceañera flowers should hold a special meaning to you. They should make you smile the minute you see them and in the future when you come across them, they should remind you of your special celebration.

DO’S AND DON’T OF FLOWERS

DON’T match your dress to your flowers. DON’T limit yourself to the cliché rose. DON’T be afraid of color. DON’T pick flowers that are hard to get a hold of/ out of season. DON’T rule out fake flowers as a budget alternative.

MUSIC
The music of your quince will set the mood for the entire party. Considering that your quince has different elements, you’ll need to vary the music from background to transitional to dance music. The three most common forms of musical entertainment for your party are: DJ, banda/live band or mariachi. You may prefer one over the other or, if your budget allows, you may even have two or three of them at your quince. The most important element in selecting your music is to hire someone that knows how to entertain a crowd and deal with last-minute changes. It is their responsibility to keep people dancing and engaged throughout the entire party.
otographer
Sergio Flores Ph
QUESTION TO ASK YOUR DJ.
If hiring a mariachi, make sure to: clarify the number of hours they’re expected to perform, approve the wardrobe they’ll be wearing, know the exact number of members in the group, provide them with a list of songs to play during specific moments of the party. You should also give them a list of songs to avoid.
Do you bring your own sound system equipment? How many hours of playing time are included in the contract? Can I review your playlists? Can I request certain songs? How many people are in your team? Do you play a variety of music? What genre is your specialty? Can you only play G-rated versions of the music? Do you have music that adapts to each moment of the quince?
If hiring a live band and a mariachi, make sure not to book both of them for the same hours. If you do, you’ll be paying for one of them to just wait on the side until the other is done playing.
It takes more than pressing play to really engage a quinceañera crowd. Among other qualities, your DJ needs to have a fun personality and the ability to quickly adapt to last-minute changes. When meeting with a prospective DJ, ask the following questions to determine if he/she is a good fit for your party:
BANDA/ GRUPO People love live performances and tend to get very excited when they see a banda or band set up on stage. Before choosing your live performance, ask for a demo, video footage or recommendations from friends. The only disadvantage to having a banda is that they only play their musical genre. But if banda is what you love, then you shouldn’t have a problem with that! MARIACHi: Mariachi music is the most traditional music performed during a quinceañera. It is a beautiful idea to have your guests serenated by them during the dinner and to also have them perform the song to your father daughter dance.
P.42

Music is one of the most important aspects of your party. And although there’s no way you can possibly fulfill all of your guests’ musical requests, you can make sure that you and your parents’ expectations are met. Together with your parents, create a list of songs you want to hear at the party. Then, create a list of songs you definitely don’t want to be played at your Quince. This way, you’ll both be sharing the experience of having music that you approve.
M AKE UP AND B EAUTY IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO LOOK IMPECCABLE from head to toe on your Quinceañera. Not only will you be the center of attention on that day, but they’ll also be tons of pictures of you throughout your celebration. That is why you need to make sure you prepare yourself with enough time and that you hire the right people to make up your hair and makeup team.
Hairstyle Options
YOUR QUINCEAÑERA HAIR TRIAL The same way you have cake tastings, and decoration samples, it is important for you to have a hair and make up trial to make sure that you and your glam squad are on the same page.

When choosing a hairstylist, be prepared to ask the following questions: •Are they licensed or certified professionals? •Do they specialize with Quinceañeras or brides?
•Do they come to you or do you go to them? •Can they do your damas hair, too? Can they do your makeup as well? •Do they have a portfolio? •Do they have a good reputation? •Are they creative and open minded? •How much time do they need to do your hair? P.44

Before you know it, it’ll be the day of your Quinceañera. Everything you have organized and planned for will come to life in just a few hours. And sadly, it will be over just as quickly as it came. Which is why it’s important to remember everything that you planned and— most importantly, to enjoy every moment of your celebration. In order to keep from forgetting any detail of your party, it’s recommended that you create a timeline of the order of events. You should share this timeline with your padrinos, corte de honor and vendors so that all members of the party know exactly what to do. Since each Quinceañera is different, the items on your list and the order of them might be slightly different than anyone else’s.

The one thing you will be most thankful for long after your quince has passed will be the memories that were captured by your photographer. This combination of posed pictures, candid moments and snapshots of your special day will be something that you will keep forever. Therefore, the role of a photographer is a very important one. While an error in your floral arrangements or a delayed dinner service can be forgiven and corrected, bad photos or simply missed moments can never be fixed or recreated. A professional photographer and videographer is simply a necessity. Though any person can purchase a camera and take pictures, only an experienced photographer can capture the right moments, as well as make sure you look beautiful in every shot and truly tell a story just with images of your day.

One of the moments that your guests will look forward to the most on the day of your Quince is your vals and baile sorpresa. All eyes will be on you during those specific moments and although you may or may not be nervous about performing in front of all your guests, it’ll probably be one of the memorable moments of your quince.
BAILE SORPRESA
In the next few pages you’ll find tips for the dances required for your quince, and information on why you should hire a professional choreographer to guide you through this process.
The baile sorpresa should follow the group vals. If you need to change into a different outfit from one dance to another, you should not take so long that your guests become unsettled. Coordinate with your DJ/MC to have him/her entertain your guests while you’re changing. The baile sorpresa is your opportunity to get creative with the music, choreography and costumes. Is there a particular genre of music you would like to use? Perhaps there’s a song that you would love to dance to? These are things you can consider when selecting the song(s). YOUR CHOREOGRAPHER Hire a dance professional with experience. This person can make sure that everyone on your quinceañera court (regardless of dance experience) will look great on the dance floor. They can also customize and edit your music to your requests and will keep the members of your court focused and on track during the practices.

A Quinceañera ceremony celebrates Hispanic traditions, culture and heritage. Most of the symbolic traditions of a quince are presented during the ceremony or religious mass, which is why the mass is considered the most important part of a Quinceañera. The symbolic traditions presented during the ceremony represent the transformation of a girl becoming a young woman before God and her family. The ceremony serves to reaffirm her faith through the renewal of the baptismal vows. Not all Quinceañeras have the same religious background. Therefore, it is common for each of them to include
a ceremony that is representative of their spiritual practices. Traditionally, the ceremony takes place at a church and is administered by a pastor or priest. Nowadays many officiants offer to conduct the ceremony at your home or reception hall. Once you decide on the place for your ceremony, schedule an appointment with the officiant to discuss any prerequisites and specific requirements. The officiant should be able to guide you as far as what to expect from the ceremony, how to prepare for it and how to make the most out of the experience.
Items of Symbolism The traditional gifts presented during the ceremony hold special meaning as they relate to you becoming a young woman. These gifts are represent loyalty and commitment to God, your family and yourself. The priest or pastor blesses all of the gifts during the ceremony. The padrinos of each of the gifts are responsible for taking them to the altar when the priest requests the ojects. Here is a list of the most common gifts presented by your padrinos during the ceremony:
The Holy Bible: This is the foundation of your faith and a manual that will guide your spiritual growth.
Tiara / Corona: Symbolizes that
you are a princess in the eyes of God.
Rosary/Cross Necklace: Meant
to be worn as a reminder of your faith
La Ultima Muñeca: Represents
you leaving behind your childhood toys in preparation of new, mature responsibilities
P.112
Ceremony pillow/ Cojin: A kneeling
pillow for you to use during the ceremony.
A Ring/Anillo: To symbolize God’s unending love. Also meant to be worn as a reminder of your faith.
Earrings: Meant to be worn
as a reminder to keep your ears towards to the word of God.
Pair of High Heel Shoes: Used to wear during the reception in representation of your first pair of heels as a young woman.
