CONTENTS:

My husband and I moved to the Quincy Valley in 2010. He has been farming the valley for almost 30 years. We love the diversity, both culturally and commercially, of this area. In spite of the small-town feel, the city of Quincy has been very growth-oriented as evidenced by the development of newer industry start-ups. Our public school system has recently had tremendous growth and improvements. It is exciting to see all of the opportunities in learning being offered to our children. www.quincyvalley.org In 2019, Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce partnered with Quincy High School in the creation of the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce Junior Board. The goal is to offer these students exposure and experiences in the world of business. My time and association with the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce has been invaluable to me, both as a business owner and as an individual. I have had the pleasure of working with many of our local business owners and community leaders while serving as the Chamber President for 2019. These associations have also been very beneicial in the growth of our small business. I look forward to observing and participating in the unlimited future opportunities for the citizens and businesses of the Quincy Valley and the future of the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce.

ABOUT US

Our Schools Quincy School District embarked three years ago on a massive plan to improve and expand educational opportunities. With the 2019-2020 school year, those plans have been implemented. The shining centerpiece of the plan is our new, state-of-the-art high school, home of the Jackrabbits – our mascot. Education and our schools are at the heart of our community, and Jacks pride runs as high as ever. With the voters’ approval of a $108 million bond issue in 2016, planning went into motion to build a new, larger high school, convert a junior high building into a new, added elementary school, convert the previous high school into a middle school, and add expansions and upgrades in the other elementary school buildings. At the same time, the school district reconfigured attendance zones and grades so each elementary provided a neighborhood K-5 school. The school district leadership includes highly engaged administrators as well as an (Continued)

Leading Economic Development Additionally, in 2019, the Port of Quincy was successful in recruiting a new manufacturer to Quincy. In particular, the Port of Quincy held a groundbreaking ceremony in August for Raceways Technology. The Port of Quincy will be constructing a building at the Port of Quincy Industrial Park No. 4. The building will house A Grant PUD substation. Raceways Technology, which is based out of Tacoma and manufactures PVC conduits for power, telephone and electrical duct systems. The building will be owned by the Port of Quincy and leased to Raceways Technology for 20 years. The business is expected to create 50-60 new jobs in Quincy. The Port is also continuing to improve infrastructure at its George industrial park (Port of Quincy Industrial Park 5).

The property, on the north side of Interstate 90 – a major transportation route across Washington and the U.S. – capitalizes on its central location and quick access to Puget Sound. The Port sees a lot of upside as George is an important logistical point. During the recent 2018 state legislative session, $410,000 was appropriated to build a water system Port of Quincy photo for the industrial park, and $700,000 was allocated to construct various asphalt streets and roads within the industrial park. ABOUT US

We Like It Here The Golay family – Carol, Galen and son Sawyer (at right) – moved to Quincy in July of 2017. Prior to coming to Quincy, they lived in the Redmond, Washington, area for 22 years. The family decided to make the move over the mountains because they had the opportunity to buy a business in town – Basin Pacific Insurance, where Galen is the Branch Managing Partner. Carol works for the Quincy School District at Monument Elementary School. And, Sawyer is a third-grader at Pioneer Elementary. Before making the move to town, the family visited Quincy a few times to look for a place to live. When visiting, the things that stood out most were the great Mexican food and the unlimited opportunities. Since moving to Quincy, the family enjoys the short drive times to school and jobs, and the friendly people who have welcomed them to town. “We are a relationship centered family,” they added. The whole family participates in club and Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce activities. For those who have never been through the area, the family said visitors will enjoy the history of Quincy and described the town as growing. Eight-year-old Sawyer added, “We have potatoes and apples, and all of your data is saved here.”

The Wanapum, which means River People, lived along the Columbia River from above Priest Rapids down to the mouth of the Snake River. Hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking The Quincy area has ample trails and roads for hiking and mountain biking. While the most popular trails are in the Quincy Lakes Recreation Area, the Beasley Hills north of Quincy are also attractive for walking and viewing nature. In the Quincy Lakes area, miles of trails can be accessed from several parking areas. There are seven main fishing lakes in the recreation area, with numerous smaller lakes dotting the landscape. There are also hiking trails around Cave B Inn, on Silica Road, as well as off of Sunland Road. The Old Vantage Highway area also has hiking trails and rock climbing spots. The Frenchman Coulee Climbing area also draws rock climbers searching for sun and stone.
