The Quinnipiac University School of Law is located on the main university campus (Mount Carmel Campus), set against the picturesque backdrop of Sleeping Giant State Park. While this scenic surrounding can create the illusion you are in a largely rural environment, Hamden is a vibrant and active town of about 60,000 residents. Combining the best elements of small-town New England life with the cultural and entertainment offerings of an urban center, Hamden is the perfect blend of urban and suburban, with the beaches of Long Island Sound only twenty minutes away.

Studying law at Quinnipiac University School of Law will be an exciting opportunity for you and one of the most important financial investments you will make. The first step in the financial aid process is to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be filed electronically at www.fafsa.gov. Be sure to list the Quinnipiac University School of Law federal school code, E00545, to ensure proper receipt of the information by the University. The Office of Financial Aid begins sending electronic award notifications in the Spring to students who have been accepted and completed their FAFSA. Your financial aid award letter contains information regarding your cost of attendance and the types of aid for which you are eligible. Things to know In mid-June, after you have paid the second deposit, you will receive instructions on how to set up an email account and how to log into Quinnipiac University’s intranet portal, MyQ, the University’s central hub for information. Your class schedule will be posted there later in the summer. Your first year class schedule is predetermined by the registrar. Student ID card (Q Card)

Quinnipiac University has partnered with Gallagher Koster to develop an affordable health insurance plan for students. Quinnipiac University now requires students to maintain major medical insurance coverage. The coverage may be waived if the student presents evidence of other health insurance coverage under a plan that provides equal to or greater than the Quinnipiac University Student Health Insurance Plan. More information will be available on qulaw4u.org. Parking Permit
Parking on campus is free to all students. There are a number of parking options available for students including a parking lot designated for carpools, as well as a shuttle running from our other lots. You are required to have a permit. To obtain a permit, students must register their vehicle online through the MyQ portal. Directions for how and when to obtain your permit will be posted on qulaw4u.org later in the summer. Once you find out your class schedule, you may purchase or rent your books from the school bookstore. This can be done either at the store or on-line. More information will be provided when your schedule is published.
Finding a place to live While graduate housing is not available on campus, we provide you with a variety of information regarding available housing in Hamden and the surrounding areas (North Haven, Cheshire, Wallingford, New Haven, and East Haven). housing forum & roommate locator
Our Admitted Student Website, qulaw4u.org, includes a housing forum and roommate locator. The housing forum provides information on available houses and apartments for sale or rent, and reviews by students of the apartment complexes. The roommate locator allows incoming students to connect with each other to find someone with whom to share an apartment and costs. There is ample housing in Hamden, New Haven, and many of the surrounding areas. Most of the options are within 5-20 minutes of our campus. Housing prices vary depending on the living situation you desire (i.e. live alone or with others; rent or own; live in a house or apartment). On average, rental prices range from $500 to $1,200 per person per month. For any questions regarding housing availability, please contact the Office of Admissions. 2

The student center is a multipurpose facility that provides opportunities to bring everyone in the Quinnipiac Community together. CafĂŠQ, the main dining hall on campus, is located here as well as the bookstore. Athletic & Recreation Center
There are two fitness centers available to Quinnipiac Law students; one on the main campus and a brand new facility at the York Hill Campus, just minutes away. The facilities are fantastic and free of charge for students. A valid Student ID card is required to use the fitness centers. Health & Wellness Center
Nurses staff the Health and Wellness Center 24/7, with a physician available 30 hours per week. Services include: acute and routine medical care; diagnostic procedures; referral services to area health providers; health profile maintenance; allergy injections (by appointment only); and gynecology services (by appointment only). In accordance with Connecticut law, all students must provide a complete history of immunizations and the results of a pre-entrance physical examination. Hamden has the usual variety of chain restaurants, but also has diverse and delicious local dining options.
New Haven is a food-lover’s paradise, home to fabulous restaurants serving world-class food. For example, The Original Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, was chosen by the Food Network as “Connecticut’s Best Pizza” and by Zagat as “Connecticut’s Most Popular Restaurant” in 2011.
Aunt Chilada’s serves reasonably priced Mexican food and is often the host of the Student Bar Association’s Halloween party. The Side Street Grille has great hamburgers and an eclectic menu in a casual atmosphere. Tonino’s Pizza and Subway are on Whitney Avenue in close proximity to campus and great for a quick bite between classes. Wentworth’s Ice Cream on Whitney Avenue offers some of the best homemade ice cream in Connecticut. For a more upscale lunch or dinner, Ristorante Luce on Whitney Avenue serves award-winning Italian cuisine. Near Dixwell Avenue, Eli’s on Whitney is a popular food choice and local hang out. Taste, on Whitney Avenue, offers a high quality menu serving American cuisine. For excellent Japanese cuisine, head to Kumo, Sakura Garden, or Sono Bana, three of the best in the area. Other popular local restaurants to consider are Playwright Irish Pub Restaurant, Park Central Tavern, Ixtapa Grill, and Sushi Palace (a favorite for all-youcan-eat sushi).

Another great choice is Louis’ Lunch, well known for serving one of GQ magazine’s “20 Hamburgers You Must Eat Before You Die” as well as being named the Tastiest Burger in America by the Travel Channel. It is also said to be the birthplace of the hamburger sandwich. Just be sure to check the hours before you go as they are not always open for lunch, despite the name. Here’s a brief sampling of what is also available in the area: Bar, Bentara, Black Bear Saloon, Café Goodfellas, Carmen Anthony’s Steakhouse, Caseus, Claire’s Corner Copia (vegetarian), Geronimo, Kudeta, Modern Apizza, Pacifico, Sally’s Pizza (a favorite of Frank Sinatra), Skappo Italian Wine Bar, Soul de Cuba, Tandoor, Temple Street Bar & Grill, and Thai Taste.
Restaurant Week Twice a year, New Haven and Hamden host separate restaurant weeks. These are a great opportunity to get a delicious meal at a fabulous deal.

Shopping Our campus is conveniently located close to a number of excellent shopping centers. Whether you’re interested in clothing, books, groceries, or gifts, the stores are only a short drive away. Hamden
Several shopping centers are located on Dixwell Avenue featuring such popular stores as Old Navy, Marshall’s, Pier 1, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl’s, and a wide variety of smaller shops, grocery stores, and restaurants.

Located about 40 minutes from campus, Westfarms is an upscale mall including such shops as Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, Cache, Coach, Louis Vuitton, Nordstrom, Tiffany’s, and Apple. The downtown West Hartford area is also a beautiful place to shop, eat, and socialize.
North Haven
Just off exit 9 on I-91, the North Haven shopping centers on Universal Drive include Barnes and Noble, ULTA, T.J. Maxx, Staples, Target, Sports Authority, Panera Bread, and BJ’s Wholesale Club. Milford
If you’re looking for a larger indoor mall, Milford’s Westfield Connecticut Post Shopping Mall, just off I-95, is about 25 minutes away. In addition to national anchor stores like Macy’s, it features such stores as New York and Company, Express, H&M, Hollister, and Brookstone. New Haven

Cultural Attractions Connecticut is rich in colonial and maritime history and most attractions are an hour or less from the campus. The Amistad Freedom Schooner in New
Haven is a floating memorial to the human spirit and to those who fought for freedom from slavery. The ship and its human cargo were subjects of a major motion picture. While its home base is in New Haven, the ship travels throughout the world.
Outlet Shopping If outlet shopping is your passion, there are some great options in the area. Two separate outlet malls are located less than 40 minutes from campus at exits 63 and 65 respectively, off I-95. Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets feature stores such as Coach, Calvin Klein, Kenneth Cole, Polo Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic Factory Store, and BCBG Max Azaria. Tanger Outlets at Westbrook includes stores
such as Loft Outlet, Eddie Bauer, J. Crew, and Timberlands Factory Store.
The Mystic Aquarium is close to the seaport and is the home of Dr. Robert Ballard and The Institute for Exploration (IFE). The town of Old Lyme, right on the coast,
recaptures the feeling of a historic New England fishing village. You’ll discover other quaint New England villages in Old Saybrook, Guilford, Madison, and Essex, with small shops and classic architecture.
Mystic Seaport off of I-95 is one of the nation’s
leading maritime museums, with tall ships, a 19thcentury village, and a vintage shipyard. 5

Concerts & theater The spacious Toyota Oakdale Theater is only a few minutes from campus in Wallingford. It features world-class musical groups, ranging from Santana to country and rock stars. It also offers touring Broadway shows such as “Grease” and “Riverdance”. The XL Center in Hartford host concerts, sporting events and other exhibitions including CT Whale professional hockey, 2012 Big East Women’s Basketball Championship, Disney on Ice, and the Hartford Home Show.
Woolsey Hall on the Yale campus in New Haven is home to the New Haven Symphony Orchestra with a broad venue of classical music, including world premieres. The Comcast Theatre in Hartford is an outdoor/ indoor venue that has a park-like atmosphere and is one of the largest amphitheaters in the country.
The Long Wharf Theatre, off I-95 just south of New Haven, stages professional theater productions, some as a “try-out” for Broadway, plus Quinnipiac University’s own theater productions.
The Yale Repertory Theatre is a recipient of a Tony Award® for Outstanding Regional Theatre. Located in a former church in downtown New Haven, this professional theatre is dedicated to the production of new works.
The Shubert Theater in downtown New Haven presents concerts, dance companies, and the best of Broadway touring companies such as “Mamma

The Beinecke Rare Books and Manuscript Library (New Haven) looks like the world’s largest Rubik’s cube and contains extremely rare old books and manuscripts, including a Gutenberg Bible.
In addition to poker, slots, etc., both the Mohegan Sun Resort Casino in Uncasville and Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket offer first-class entertainment options that include concerts, restaurants, shopping, museums, hotels, and spas, and are located a little over an hour from campus.
Museums & galleries The Yale University Art Gallery (New Haven) presents more than 85,000 objects dating from ancient Egypt. Their ancient Mayan collection is second to none. The Yale Center for British Art (New Haven) houses the most extensive collection of British paintings, drawings, rare books, and manuscripts outside the United Kingdom. The Peabody Museum of Natural History (New Haven) has fossils from Jurassic times, huge iron meteors, and exhibits on Native American and Mesoamerican cultures. 6

The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art (Hartford) has Old Master paintings, a vast French and American Impressionists collection, and early American furniture. The Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center (Mashantucket) re-creates the culture and environment of Native Americans before the arrival of Europeans. The New Britain Museum of American Art (New Britain) has a broad collection from colonial times to 20th century works. The Mark Twain House and Museum (Hartford) preserves the 19-room home of the famous humorist and author. The Eli Whitney Museum (Hamden) outlines the legacy of Eli Whitney—the inventor of the cotton gin —and includes an outdoor learning environment.
Movies To see all the latest new releases, the Rave Motion Pictures North Haven 12 is off exit 9 on I-91 and the Rave Motion Pictures Milford 16 is off exit 39B on I-95. For more serious film buffs, the Bow Tie Criterion Cinemas and Cine 1-2-3-4 in New Haven often offer independent and foreign films. The Criterion also offers Movies and Mimosas on Saturday and Sunday mornings, where you can enjoy an old movie and a tasty beverage.
Sporting Events The University is a member of the Northeast Conference in most sports, including our NCAA Division I basketball team, and the prestigious Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference in both men’s and women’s ice hockey. Both the hockey and basketball teams play in the state-of-the-art TD Bank Sports Center which has separate arenas for each sport. For schedules and results, visit www.quinnipiacbobcats.com. Connecticut is also host to two minor league baseball teams, the New Britain Rock Cats and the Bridgeport Bluefish, as well as two American Hockey League Teams, the Connecticut Whale and Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Parks, Trails, Beaches, & Mountains Sleeping Giant Mountain / State Park (Hamden): Walk out the front door of the law school and directly across the street and you will be at the base of Sleeping Giant Mountain. When approaching the law school you can see the silhouette of the Giant lying on his back, resting. Situated in Sleeping Giant State Park, the mountain has 1,700 acres of trails for both beginners and the adventuresome.
Farmington Canal Rail Trail (Hamden/New Haven): A short distance from the campus, this trail runs fifteen miles from New Haven to Hamden through woods, streams, and meadows. The trail is wide and paved, so it is perfect for runners, hikers, bikers, and skaters. Lighthouse Point Park (New Haven): Located less than 20 minutes from campus are a number of beautiful beaches. In addition to the water, Lighthouse Point Park offers a carousel from the 1920’s, the splash pad, and picnic areas. Hammonasset Beach State Park (Madison): Offers two miles of beach fronting the Long Island Sound. Amenities include a boardwalk, nature center, concessions, picnic areas, and a campground. West Haven beaches and shoreline (West Haven): This stretch of shoreline includes Bradley Point Beach and Sandy Point Beach. Lyman Orchards (Middletown): A local favorite for enjoying New England activities such as pick your own apples and a fall corn maze. Bishop’s Orchards (Guilford): A nearby orchard that also boasts a farm market, winery, and bakery. Mount Southington and Ski Sundown (Located in Southington and in New Hartford): These local mountains provide ski enthusiasts with an opportunity to hit the slopes within an hour’s drive. For those looking for a greater challenge, the mountains of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts are a great day trip or weekend getaway. Connecticut Wine Trail: Spend a day or a weekend exploring a set of 24 state-approved wineries situated throughout some of the most picturesque towns in Connecticut.
