Pan-Am Games Torch Relay stops in Trenton By Terry McNamee

News - Trenton - Does it get any better than this? Representatives of the National Air Force Museum of Canada, 8 Wing Trenton and the City of Quinte West didn’t think so as crowds of people of all ages thronged to the museum on Saturday. They came to see one of the final legs of the 41-day journey of the Pan-American Games Torch Relay on the Torch’s journey to Toronto, host of the 2015 Pan-Am Games. Many took advantage of the opportunity to tour the museum and its air park, buy Pan-Am Games souvenirs and enjoy the entertainment, free food and games, as well as meeting torchbearers and seeing the torch up close. Originally, the Torch Relay was going to make two stops in Trenton, one at the museum and one at Quinte West Town Hall, with two separate ceremonies, but officials quickly realized that working together was better, said Lisa Grills, Quinte West Supervisor of Tourism and Special Events. The decision by the NAFMC and the City of Quinte West to create a joint event proved to be an excellent idea, and planning began months ago, said Wing Chief of Staff Lieutenant Colonel Dave Alexander, who co-chaired the celebration planning with Grills. “The first contact was in the fall,” Lieutenant Colonel Alexander said. “We decided right away to combine what we were doing. The official Pam-Am Games Torchbearers left the National Air Force Museum of Canada on Saturday, July 4, on their way to Brighton following ceremonies celebrating the event. Photo: Terry McNamee
