EMC News - Quinte West - Brandon Ashmore of the Canadian Beverage Association and John Challinor from Nestle Waters Canada were a delegation to council Monday night regarding the Blue Communities Project. “We want to highlight key facts and figures about the bottled water industry,” Ashmore said. Council had earlier rejected a proposal from Robyn Hamlyn to become a Blue Community which involved banning the sale of bottled water in municipal facilities and at municipal events. “The Blue Communities Project resolution is the latest anti-bottled water initiative from the council and CUPE who have developed various political campaigns over the last eight years to discredit our industry,” John Challinor said, “our 13,000 employees across Canada, some of who live in your region, and our products and services.” Challinor said the Blue Communities Project is a well-intentioned but misguided attack on the bottled water industry. “It is like a Trojan horse-like treatise developed solely to encourage Canadian municipalities to ban the sale of bottled water in their facilities under the guise of human rights and infrastructure management,” he said. “The Blue Communities Please see “Council” on page 3

EMC News - Quinte West - The city has entered into an agreement with Mark Tripp Limited for the placement of a metal mural for use as fascia on property located at 70-72 Dundas Street West in downtown Trenton. “The Economic Development and Revitalization Committee recommended the approval of the downtown mural design,” reports Virginia LaTour, deputy city clerk. The agreement is that installation occur no later than July 31, 2013. The owner contribution of $600 is due no later than ten days after the installation of the mural. The city is responsible for maintenance as mural is city property. There must be a 30-day notice to the city in the event of rebuild or sale of the property. The cost of the mural is about $3,700 to be taken from the Economic Development budget. “The location of the mural in downtown Trenton will add considerable visual appeal along Dundas Street West,” LaTour comments.
