convincing and always managed to get her way. Her way of relating to people and sense of humor made people of all generations and walks of life fall in love with her after meeting her. There are many people who are not related to her that consider her to be like a mother, aunt, or sister.

For God so loved Hammond and Bernidine Hurley, that he gave to them a daughter. Delores Hurley, affectionately known as “LoLo”, took her first breath on August 10, 1958. She was the youngest of four daughters. Her arrival made their family complete. LoLo was born in Chicago Heights and raised in Harvey, Illinois. She attended McKinley Elementary School as a child and graduated from Thornton Township High School. LoLo loved her church family and enjoyed rich relationships with many of her brothers and sisters in Christ. She joyfully served on the usher board and sang in the choir. Each year, LoLo looked forward to celebrating family and friend’s day with an entire row of her personal special guests. LoLo enjoyed singing and held it down in the alto section! For everyone’s birthday, LoLo would always call to sing them the happy birthday song … Stevie Wonder style. LoLo was everybody’s favorite. She was known for spreading her charm and sunshine wherever she went. She was incredibly charismatic and would lighten any situation with humor. She never quite mastered the art of whispering though. Her kids jokingly called her “surround sound” because she always spoke with her voice’s volume turned all the way up.LoLo was blessed with the gift of gab, and boy could she tell a story, complete with sound effects, grand gestures, facial expression and words she’d made up. She was

LoLo was truly a loving and giving person, hands down! She loved her two children and three grandchildren with all her heart and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. If she could move mountains, heaven, and earth to make something happen for any of them, she certainly would! LoLo enjoyed supporting her grandchildren by attending their athletic games, dance competitions, recitals, and keeping their stomachs full of their favorite snacks whenever they visited. She always looked forward to seeing her son Derrick perform his standup comedy on stage. She looked forward to every show. She was his number one fan. She celebrated and bragged on her children and grandchildren and loved them all to the ends of the earth up until her last breath. On any given day, you could find LoLo being a caregiver for her mother, baking cakes for others as an expression of love, organizing a trip to the neighborhood gaming lounge or casino to play her favorite penny slots, or sitting on the front porch of her home enjoying people come and go. If someone would stop to talk, she wouldn’t hesitate to send them on a Pepsi run or another errand. LoLo loved to play practical jokes on people and kid around. She enjoyed life and loved having fun, making people laugh and giving people she loved special nicknames. LoLo truly was a constant, loving, and uplifting presence in the lives of the people she loved. She was truly a stand-up kind of woman. “They don’t make em’ like this anymore.” Everyone whose life she touched will deeply miss her. LoLo has always been a diligent worker and has worn many professional hats during her lifetime. She proudly worked at General Motors’ Fisher Body Plant in Willow Springs, Illinois and was employed by Nestle Foods in Franklin Park, Illinois until retirement. LoLo departed this life and entered into rest on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father, Hammond Hurley. LoLo’s life and memory will forever be honored by those who were blessed to have known and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory: her mother Bernidine – whom she considered her best friend, her daughter Tamike, son Derrick, favorite daughter-in-law Adrianna, grandson Drayden, granddaughters De’Anna and Destyn … her sisters: Bobbie, Naomi, and Alma … brothers-in-law Sonnie and Rueben Sr., her handsome nephews: Chuck, BJ, Tony, Andre, Rueben Jr., Reggie, Maurice, Moonie, and Troy … her one and only beautiful niece Sha and many other family and friends. We will carry her memory in our hearts for as long as we live.

Tributes

Ma’, You were there when I took my first breath. I was there when you took your last breath. In our relationship, I learned what grace, forgiveness, acceptance, and mercy means. Your being gone is a heavy blow to my heart that I don’t know if I’ll recover from. It feels surreal. I miss you so much already. I will carry your memory in my heart and love you until my last breath. - Tamike Mom, I don’t quite have all the words to explain how much you meant to me in ways I didn’t know. I’ve listened to your voicemails every day in my phone. You were the strongest woman I know. To know you, to know your story. I’m heartbroken without you. I’m happy we got to talk about things, I’m happy that you knew I loved you, just like you loved me. Our relationship wasn’t typical. But we made sure each other was good. I love you mom. Thank you for everything, even in your time of need you would always think of me. I’ll never forget the love you gave me. I’ll make sure your name lives on and I will continue to make you proud. With Love, Your Son, Lil Lolo

Can’t find the words to say LoLo. But I will start with a thank you. Thank you for being the grandmother and mother in love that you were to me. I’m going to miss the Sunday calls asking me what I cooked good for your son. I promise I’ll continue to take care of your son for you. Love you. Love your favorite Daughter-in-law Adrianna Delores, baby sister. God saw the road was getting rough and your pains of sleepless nights. He opened the doors in heaven and easily freed you from your weariness. He gave you a peace of mind in your new home in heaven. Big sister will forever miss and love you. When you fly by the house, birds sing a loud noise letting me know you found peace in heaven. Love forever Big Sister Bobbie and Sons “In Loving Memory of Delores (LoLo)” Words cannot express the sadness in saying farewell to you now that you are no longer here. The bond that we shared as Sisters was stronger than silver or gold. Over the years, we have shared so many good times together and we had our differences, but we did not let that come between us. One

of the things I loved about you was the love you had for all those around you. Thank you for sacrificing your livelihood to care for our Mother, which I’m sure she is grateful and so am I. Everyone who knew you, loved you because you had a heart of gold. Not only were you so lovable, but you were also witty, funny, loved to laugh, had a name for everyone you knew even one of my friends in California you warmly named “Fa La La”. I can see why your Son Derrick is getting paid to be a comedian, he’s following in your footsteps. After my family and I moved away, you would make sure I had my favorite Chinese food the same day I arrived. As a matter of fact, I believed you had put a GPS device in my luggage because you knew my every move from the time I left California to when I landed in Chicago and picked up my luggage. You would’ve called me at least 5 times before I arrived at Moms to say, “so what time are you getting here”. You would call me everyday while I was here wanting to know what time I was coming to Mom’s. Before now, that used to drive me nuts, but I missed those calls this trip coming home. You know they say, “you don’t miss anything until it’s not there anymore”, that’s so true. Thanks for the memories Sis, your light shines on in all of us. Love you forever Sis, Naomi John 14: 1-3 “Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2) In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, 3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” To my sister: I love you today, tomorrow, and forever. Alma I miss your presence Granny LoLo. Drayden I will miss your energy when I’m around you. I will miss you very much. De’Anna Miss you Granny LoLo. Destyn
