James Estol Young was born on June 5, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of William Fred and Margaret Elizabeth Young. He was the second of eight children. Jim was an exceptional child that exhibited a solid work ethic. Jim was always eager to learn and up for any challenge. These are just a few of the characteristics Jim carried from his youth throughout the entirety of his adulthood. Jim was educated in the Chicago Public School system and graduate from Crane Technical High School in 1956. Growing up, Jim developed a strong love for music. Big bands and jazz were 2 of his favorite genres. Jim played drums in the band in high school and continued to play locally. Jim’s love of music grew and expanded throughout his life. After high school, Jim worked for Teletype as a Metallurgist. Jim always had a passion for driving; and after working for Teletype, Jim became a truck driver. Jim drove for Keebler Cookie company for 10 years. Jim later became employed at Jewel Food as a delivery truck driver. In 1996, Jim was named the top driver in the company. With this honor, Jim had his picture on the cover of the annual stock holder’s report. Later that year, Jim retired from Jewel. In 1966, Jim was in the middle of Madison with one of his police buddies when he met the love of his life, Betty Jane (Jean).

Jim accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal savior in 1974 at Grace Temple Church of God In Christ 6916 1/2 South Stony Island under the leadership of the late Pastor Emmitt Rule. Jim was very faithful to the ministry and worked diligently with his pastor serving wherever a need could be found. 2 of Jim’s favorite positions were Chairman of the Deacon board and Choir Director. Pastor Rule didn’t have to worry about the church, Deacon Young always made himself available to carry out the program of his pastor. Deacon Young made it his business to to provide as much support as possible whether in word or deed. Deacon Young was called to the ministry and was ordained as an Elder in Northern Illinois Jurisdiction under the late Bishop Isaiah Leon Roberts in 1987. In 1989, God again called Elder Young. This time he was called to pastor. Elder Young stepped out on faith and Love Community Church of God In Christ was birthed. Pastor Young has always been a man of progression. He always encouraged his congregation to push beyond what the eye can see because we can do anything with he help of God. Pastor Young was a devoted and caring pastor. Providing what he could spiritually and naturally for congregation. Pastor Young was given the vision to build God a house. He then gave God a Gideon challenge, “Lord I believe you called me to pastor. I will build a house for you.” The Lord replied, “If you build it, I will fill it.” In August of 2001, the vision the Lord gave Pastor Young was complete, and the first service was held in the building Pastor Young constructed. Not only was Pastor Young faithful on the local level, he was faithful to his jurisdiction and national church. While a member of Northern Illinois under the leadership of Bishop Cody Vernon Marshall, Pastor Young could often be seen serving. Pastor Young also would also serve as a driver Presiding Bishop Louis Henry Ford. He cherished serving as Superintendent of the Robert L. Dorris Memorial District. Poppa: You and I were something like Batman and Robin. Always going off on an adventure together or working on a project together. It is because of you I enjoy Glenn Miller and Jackie Gleason. You were supportive and encouraging about everything. I will always remember all the stories and wise words you would share. Especially during my weekend rides home from college. I’m glad my children were able to enjoy you and create their own memories with Poppa. We love you dearly and thank you for everything.

To my dad and my hero: My heart aches in sadness My tears constantly flow For what it meant to lose you Dad No one will ever know!!!

Love,

Dad you meant so much to me. To me you were a man among men. You were my HERO! I admired you, you were very courageous, you were strong, you were resilient but most of all you were a man of integrity and GREAT character.

To my Poppa... Thank you for being such a giant in my live. Nothing was too big or small because you would literally and HAVE literally done anything for us. Thank you for grooming me to be the young lady that I am today. I will never forget you poppa and your legacy will live on forever.

You taught me so much. You were always there. There was never a situation in my life that you wouldn’t avail yourself to me. You encouraged me to keep going even when I felt I couldn’t. I always felt that my dad knew some of everything about anything (and you did). Oh how I miss you. It was a joy to be able to take care of you. I would call you every morning and say: “Good morning Poppa how are you”? And you would respond by saying: “I’m so so baby, so so”. Oh how I miss hearing those words. I miss coming to your house and seeing you sitting in your favorite chair. I miss sitting there watching the News and the Basketball games with you. You were so strong even until the every end. You maintained your strength. It hurt me to see you in pain. As I sat in the hospital with you I thought of the scripture you would so often quote: II Corinthians 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, We have a building of God a house not made with hands

Darvell aka Bria Words can’t describe the moments we experienced together. Words can’t explain the many life lessons you taught me. Words can’t explain the type of man you were. We knew this day would come but it still doesn’t feel real. You taught me so much that I’ll never forget. These last few years were tough but you’ve always been a fighter even til the end. RIH King I love you

My Beloved A TRIBUTE TO

HUSBAND

Jim we met many years ago. I have so many fond memories. I even remembered when you would serenade me. It’s so hard to imagine what my life will be without you. You always made me happy. You let me know that the impossible was possible. I was so honored to walk by your side and be your wife. When you became ill it was a delight to be able to take care of you. During your illness you continued to make sure I was taken care of. So my husband I will never say goodbye. We affectionately called each other baby. It was always Jean and Jim. You’ll always be the wind beneath my wings. Forever Jean and Jim. Rest In Peace until we meet again..

- Your loving wife “Jean”

On behalf of the faithful and caring members of Love Community Church of God In Christ Pastor our hearts are broken... We loved you so much. You were a Giant in our lives. You taught and showed us what unwaveringly faith is. You taught us how to live saved , how to wait on God, how to live together as husband and wives, how to be parents to our children. There is so much we can say. Even after you retired from pastoring you continued to be a vital part of our lives and we will forever cherish your memories. Yes we will miss you... But as you would sing EVERY Sunday before the benediction, “God has spoken so let the church say AMEN”. The Acknowledgment Perhaps you sent a lovely card or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a floral piece, if so, we saw it there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say. Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day. Whatever you did, to console our hearts, we thank you so much. May God continue to bless each of you. Rodney Young James Minor II Sean Grant
