Life Reflections

Ms. Mattie Beatrice Williams (Mattie B.), was one of two children born to the union of Magnolia (Wicks) Williams and James E. Williams on August 30, 1939 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Mattie B. spent her childhood in Chicago, IL and her summers in Germantown, Tennessee with her cousin Lemardra (Baby Ruth) and her great aunt Mary. Mattie B. accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age. In her latter years, she attended Progressive Community Church, as a loyal member. In 1957, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Amos T. Burris, to this union one child was born. However, Amos accepted and loved her eldest children as if they were his very own. Mattie B. was a very fun-loving, witty, compassionate and comical woman. She was also known for her trendsetting hairstyle, her love of fashion and being jazzy. She joined the Elks Lodge Pride Chicago, Temple Number 74 in 1972 and she was the past state president until her passing. She worked as a professional nanny for many years and all of the kids that she nurtured loved her very much. She definitely lived her life to the fullest with no regrets. Mattie B. is preceded in death by both parents and brother James Edward Jr. Mattie B. leaves to cherish her loving memory, two daughters: Doretha and Linda and one son Darryl. Five grandchildren: Derrick, Crystal, Ronnie Jr., Marita and Clayvon; twenty-two great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, her most favorite cousin Lemardra and a host of relatives and many many friends.
