We at City Colleges of Chicago mourn and celebrate the life of Mr. Tony Howard. I had the honor of working closely with Tony on numerous occasions as a CPS educator and administrator. I have grown to admire him not only as a champion in advocating for our youth, but as my brother in a field where we, as African American men, are underrepresented. His passion for providing access and fighting for equality for our children was paramount, and not a day will go by that I will not remember him for his devotion. He is a true testament to the power of mentorship, and proof that committing your life to our youth can positively impact the lives of many, We have lost an extraordinary advocate who constantly demonstrated the skills of a transformative leader with great determination. Two words sum up Tony, passion and vigor, traits shown in all that he accomplished in his life. Like many others, I will truly miss Tony more than it is possible to describe and offer my most heartfelt condolences to his family and to everyone who knew him and loved him.”

On behalf of the City Colleges of Chicago, and the Harry S Truman College Community, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of our dear friend Mr. Tony Howard. Tony will be remembered as an inspirational and thoughtful change agent who had the aptitude to blend his passion for education and law into a conglomeration for his advocacy work with Chicago youth. Tony was highly regarded and extremely instrumental to the City Colleges of Chicago system. Serving as one of the founding mentors for the Men of Color in Education initiative, Tony dedicated his time to developing young men of color who desired to embark upon the field of education. As a result of his hard work and commitment, Tony founded our Men of Color in Law initiative, established as a Men of Color in Education subsidiary. Through this initiative, Tony extended his hand to those who desired to go into the field of law. Tony has always been dedicated to increasing student achievement by ensuring all students have equal access to high-quality programs that meet their educational needs.
