TRIBUTES Dear God, Thank you for my husband, Wes, of 40 years. He was the love of my life! He loved his family unconditionally. I have so much to be grateful for and I thank you. He was my love and my friend. Nothing can take away the moments and memories that we shared together. Loving Wife, Gwen

Wesley received his wings on Thursday, July 23, 2020 and moved to heaven after several battles with cancer. On September 21, 1950 he was the first born to Juliet Beauchamp. Wesley was a graduate of Mackenzie High School in Detroit, MI where he played the saxophone in the band. In 1979 Wes met the love of his life, Gwendolyn Reed, and to that union a daughter was born and completed their blended family. Gwen & Wes shared a life filled with love and joy for 40 years. Wes’ children and grandchildren were the highlights and focus of his life. Wes accepted Christ in 1998 at an evening service where his grandson was being dedicated. After relocating to Illinois, he discovered and partnered with Restoration Christian Church in Shorewood, IL. Wesley retired from BASF Corporation in 2007 after 30 years of service. The Lord gave Wesley a heart for service answering God’s calling as he served Restoration Christian Church as an usher, sound man and security. He was committed to his areas of service and refused to miss being present. Wes was a meticulous dresser, absolutely loved jazz, enjoyed watching Westerns, Kung-Fu movies and crime shows. Everyone knew that he was a diehard University of Michigan, Pistons and Lions fan. He was an avid golfer, jewelry designer and maker. His grandchildren knew exactly where to find his candy stash and would eat it all before he could. Though his departure has left a huge void in our hearts, he leaves an undeniable imprint on our lives and all those who crossed his path. Wes leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Gwendolyn Whorton, daughters, Taniesha Whorton and Chellse Whorton, son, Terrance Reed (Tracey), his sister, Phyllis Taylor and brother through friendship, Dale Averitte (Kathy). Grandson, Tyler Logan, and granddaughters, Riley Reed, Sydney Whorton and Syniah Whorton. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Wesley was proceeded in death by his mother, Juliette Beauchamp.

Dear Daddy, You have set the example of fighting a good fight! Although I won’t be able to hear your voice anymore, I will always remember the words that you have spoken. Thank you for the pep talks, the swift kicks and laughs. I am sure you are in heaven learning all you can and cheering us on! Love, Bird Pops I love you, and not just because we are family. Thank you for teaching me the things my own father could not. You taught me that tears are not a sign of weakness but that it does the opposite. You taught me that tears show that I have the courage to be vulnerable. Rest in paradise Love , Ty Hey Daddy My rock, my homie, my everything. Man, I’m sure gonna, I’m gonna miss the way we joked, laughed, and our many conversations. I’ll never forget the lessons you taught me; Given the “Wesley Whorton” way, raw and uncut. We weren’t the mushy type, but we had our own language. Daddy, I love you forever and always. Your favorite Baby Girl, Chellse Wes, I am eternally grateful for you taking me under your wings as a 12-year-old boy and showing unconditional love and teaching me the principles of manhood. Your example as a husband, father, provider and protector for our family has been a model for my life. My meticulous attention to detail and sense of style is a tribute to you. Rest in peace and continue to work on your golf game until we can play the fairways and greens of heaven together. Love your son, Terrance
