Willie S. Spruell was born January 12, 1933 in Isola, MS. He was the 4th of 10 children born to the late Luvert Spruell and Estella Moten. Willie grew up in Jackson MS. amongst 9 brothers and sisters. Willie attended school until he could no longer, because he began working/farming at 14 years of age to help his family. Willie was 16 yrs. old when he began attending Wednesday nite prayer service hosted by Mrs. Nancy Hosey. It was there he met her daughter Rosie and they would attended Sunday school services together often. It wasn’t long before their courtship blossomed into marriage on December 25, 1949. Unto this union 2 children were born—Beatrice and Willie (deceased) Spruell. Willie and Rosie relocated to Lockport IL. in 1962. He was employed at Shelby Craft and Uniroyal Company where he retired. Upon losing his son Willie Jr. in 1974 he took on the responsibility of raising his son and daughter.
Will, you allowed me to attend the service of the Lord during our 70 years of marriage. When I asked you if I could be the Church Mother, you responded “I don’t see why you can’t-you’re there every Sunday!” For that I am grateful and I was faithful. You never hindered me, so take your well-deserved rest and sleep on.....I will see you. Your Loving Wife Rosie

Willie and Rosie celebrated 70 years of marriage on December 25, 2019. “To God be the Glory!!” Willie enjoyed walking, listening to the blues, repairing cars, watching wrestling, and playing his numbers. Willie took pride in raising his grandchildren . However he took great pleasure in spending time with his great-grandchildren, by spoiling them and making memories that will last a lifetime.
